  1. I know the club made a big difference a the Ranch. Now that the club is gone, I think that the culture should stay the same. There is a core group of jumpers that work hard to keep the place a really nice place to jump. I don't think that will change with the end of the club. Too much hard work was put into creating a fun and exciting atmosphere. I'm just a newbie there; but, I always feel that there are 100 people on the side waiting to help me out if I need it. It's a pretty cool feeling. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  2. I got this from someone that posted on the Ranch forum. Pretty cool weather forcast for skydivers and hang gliders. http://www.usairnet.com/ Enjoy!! The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  3. Jen, If you go to a large DZ on a regular basis, you will find tons of people to help out. I guess it's all comes down to what environment you like the best. I guess it all comes down to the people. If you have a 182, cool people and a good pilot, you will have fun. B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  4. So I've had a chance to move out of the nest a little and check out some other DZ's. Here's a little of what I learned when comparing large DZ's to small DZ's. My experiences at both DZ's are below Large DZ - The Ranch Turbines and lots of them. Want to get on a load and it's done. Great gear store, nice load organizers, fast rides to altitude. Kick ass parties at the bonfire. Always something to do and someone to do it with. Top notch coaches and incredible guest instructors (Scott Miller classes, Brian Germain at Safety day, etc) come out to play with us. You name it, it's at the Ranch. RW, Free Flying, CRW, etc. Small DZ - Skydive Jersey Shore A real family vibe. The Cessna's running steady all day. Sometimes real life (Tandems who supplement our addiction) means you have to wait a little for a load. The DZO is always there, doing tandems, instructing, coaching, goofing around when he has time. It's the type of place where everyone trys to work together to get enough jumps for all. I haven't hung around for the parties; but, I've heard some stories and I might have to hang around. I like both. Both have good and bad things. Well, basically it's all good, I'm getting to jump. They are just different. I think that low number jumpers should try both. The Ranch taught me how to deal with 20 canopies in the sky. Jersey Shore gives you the luxury of hanging around and flying your canopy with only 2 or 3 other people. The Ranch will always be home; but, Skydive Jersey Shore will be my Summer/Beach DZ. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  5. I Love and Hate Reggie. I'm a Knick fan. I respect his ability and hard work though. Would have loved to have him as a Knick in the 90's. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  6. I'd be willing to take a ride to Crosskeys. I've never been there; but, I've heard nice things about it. Hell, I just want to jump. If it is a reasonable distance from NYC, I'll be willing to go there. PM me when you are coming over and I'll give you my mobile number. 7. Joe, I'll definitely come meet you guys. We'll be staying with my Dad. I get down there a few times a year, so hopefully I can find my Southern home DZ. B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  8. Thanks Bubbles!! Actually I should have asked you. I forgot you went to NC to jump. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  9. I jump mainly at the Ranch and occasionally at Skydive Jersey shore. I'd be happy to give you a ride to either if you are in NYC. The Ranch: 3 Otters, 1 Porter and 1 Cessna. The Vibe is very good. Jumping is constant. On weekends it is common to have 2 or 3 Otters running. You can generally get on as many loads as you want. You will get tired or go broke before the end of the weekend. The bonfire at night is always fun. Plenty of beer and BS. Good people and good times. If you want to freefly, do RW or Crew, you will find someone to jump with. There are 2 covered packing areas, showers and free overnight camping. To get there on your own, you can take a bus from the city to New Paltz. From new Paltz, you can call the DZ to try to bum a ride or take a cab for about $10. The number is (845) 255-9538. Skydive Jersey Shore: 1 Cessna 182 and 1 Cessna 206. A very personal DZ. The DZO is always around and is happy to help you out. They have a covered packing area, and snacks in the hanger. The Vibe is very good. You will get to all the people at the DZ very quickly. They will all just walk up and say Hi. I can't say much about the parties at night; but, I would be happy to have a fews beers with the people at SJS. I am not sure about any camping or accomodations there. I would bet that if you called they could help a skydiver or 2 get a place to crash. I have no idea how to get there by public transportation. You can call them at (732) 938-9002. Around NYC, there is also Sky's the Limit and Crosskeys in New Jersey and Sky Dive Long Island. I've never been to these so I'll leave it to the rest to comment on them. If you need any more info, shoot me a PM. I'll be happy to give you a ride to either one on a weekend when I am going up. 10. I was thinking tak the Kudzu and then get more drunk with less beer. Then maybe a smaller hangover the next day. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  11. The story brought a tear to my eye. He sounds like he was a great guy. Some Vibes for him and his family. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  12. Lukas was not certain why but speculated that kudzu increases blood alcohol levels and speeds up its effects. More simply put, the subjects needed fewer beers to feel drunk. "That rapid infusion of alcohol is satisfying them and taking away their desire for more drinks," Lukas said. "That's only a theory. It's the best we've got so far." http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/conditions/05/17/kudzu.drinking.ap/index.html The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  13. I agreet that the issue is that I am pitched down (traveling slightly head down) when I track in the new suit. It is something I will need to work on. It is somthing that I am causing by the way I fly my body. I just need to get a little help to correct it and I will be back to my happy self. 14. I was thinking that whoring might be better. You could get around more, make everyone happy and make some $$$$. If you need a manager, give me a call. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  15. I know that I am a low number guy so take it with a grain of salt. I think that PLF's are a necessary skill to have to new jumpers. It was drilled into me in the student progression and I have been asked to demonstrate them to students (to refresh and so the FJC instructor does not have to roll around). If they don't teach it, find an instructor or old timer to teach you. One day you may need it. It's a good thing to know. 16. My dad lives just outside Raleigh, so I may be down there 3 or 4 times a year. So you think you can deal with a Yankee interloper?? (I buy beer and skydive, so it might not be too hard) The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  17. That is usually my slow down time. This time it was not even close to slowing me down. Maybe I had brain fade and still had my legs extended. I still feel it. Oh well. Live and learn The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  18. Bruises are no worries. It's just the grief I get when I walk into work funny and have to listen to the "why do you jump out of planes?" BS. LOL The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  19. I can tell you that with a Safire 1, it is pretty much the same deal. I think I might be 1 inch shorter. LOL The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  20. Congrats!!! BEER!!! Have fun and be safe! B The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
  21. Where would be the closest place to jump near Raleigh, NC. I will be there memorial day weekend and I would like to get a day of jumping in. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.

  23. When wearing your new jumpsuit with booties, make sure you slow down your track enough before pulling. If you don't, you will get a great view of your new booties and purple, black, and now a little yellow bruises. Wow, you track a lot faster with booties. LOL. Well, lesson learned.
