Well.... I didn't actually mean to suggest that I thought it wasn't survivable, Ckret. I just meant to say that I don't think it's that necessary to look for someone with a lot of jumping experience. Since I'm a newer jumper with no experience on rounds my opinion is open to a lot of question, I guess. Then again, having never jumped a round, would I jump from a jet at night over unknown territory for a million dollars or so (taking the value of the 200K into today's terms)? Yeah, I probably would. Hell, it's a chance but it doesn't seem that terrible. I know how to PLF (something everyone learns for their first jump), I've seen a number of people land in tress without significant injury... yeah. I'd do it. Owned by Remi #?

This sport sees more than it's share of people doing things way over their abilities and training doing things they have no business doing all the time and I'm guessing that was as true 35 years ago as it is now. Why would it be that far out of line to imagine a guy with no formal training but 1 or maybe 2 static line jumps thinking that they could manage to pull a ripcord and live? Someone with the balls to hijack a plane might have the balls to jump without a lot of practice, right? Owned by Remi #?

Have you ever experienced diving line twists? If so, were you able to determine what your descent rate was? I don't believe that it takes a highly loaded HP canopy to reach expert cypres activation speeds. My opinion comes from having cutaway from diving twists twice on relatively docile canopies (Sabre2) at relatively light wing loadings (1.2 and 1.3) In both cases, the spin gained speed much faster than it does when simply holding a toggle at full extension. The first time it happened, my feet hurt like hell from the rush of blood during the spin. Owned by Remi #?

I was in a Caravan with an engine out at 5500 and two tandems by the door. It made sense to me for them exit right away (on the pilot's command) and for the three of us that were fun jumping to exit afterwards. It seemed to me that the tandems needed the extra altitude to make a safer exit. We all made it out above 3000. Owned by Remi #?

I have absolutley no problem reading my Neptune in freefall..... when it doesn't shut down for no obvious reason. It does eat batteries like crazy when the weather is cooler even after the firmware update. Owned by Remi #?

You probably don't notice just how frequently or forcefully many straight people / soldiers refer to their sexuality, Max. Because heterosexual banter is "normal" to you and most others it goes unremarked. A homosexual person living in a straight world listening to straight people talk about dating, marriage, and a night on the town is usually getting other peoples sexuality "thrown in their face" all the time... and under the current law for those in the military, can't even mention a partner or a date during a conversation. Graduated AFP! with broken altimeter

You've been ill advised on beer rules. No matter how many "firsts" occur on a single jump the max owed on that jump is a case. If this is the first time you've been wrong about beer rules you may owe a case yourself. Congrats, sovietskee! Owned by Remi #? -
Since you've done a tandem, the exit should be easier mentally, so focus on your training, relax in the door, and remember to take a deep breath (enjoy that crisp, clean, wonderful air) and exit like you own the sky

Neighbor Guns Down Robbers with Shotgun while on with 911
labrys replied to Zipp0's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree with this 100 percent. There's no way an outsider can claim anything close to self defense or defending property in a case like this. If someone is on my property uninvited and I feel threatened and shoot, so be it. I can't make that choice for the house next door. For all I know the neighbor called a friend and said they needed something from the house and just break in the kitchen window if the door is locked.... This guy called 911 for "permission" to go off half cocked and start shooting and when the dispatcher told him it was a bad idea he ignored them and played Rambo. He should be charged.
