Loss of left hand but wanting to jump?!?!
labrys replied to Bandit589's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Mike is "Sleeve" on this forum. Owned by Remi #? -
Everyone "misses it" because they don't see how all the processed food they eat is fouling their thought processes. Gubment cheese is the root of all evil. Don't you see that? If we all get together and throw all the cheese into the sea, we'll heal and start to think again. Owned by Remi #?

Loss of left hand but wanting to jump?!?!
labrys replied to Bandit589's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Try sending a PM to Sleeve. He jumps with one arm amputated at the shoulder and no prostesis. He probably has information about rigging resources and other people to contact. Owned by Remi #? -

I don't really get this post. The Navy doesn't have "MOS" and SEALS are selected for training from a variety of ratings. Owned by Remi #?

What do you charge/ get paid for refresher training?
labrys replied to altichick's topic in Instructors
Who is "we"? If you're still at Xenia, your website says there's a $30.00 charge for refresher training for students who haven't jumped in 30 days...... Owned by Remi #? -
Yes, I suppose it does. Owned by Remi #?

You left off the "and generating some lift" part. If you can find a body position that will allow a tracker to generate lift, you'll be a popular guy. Since we dont have engines and can't generate lift, we have to reduce fall rate to a minimum so that we have more time on the way to pull altitude to get maximum horizontal separation. Okay... "They fall slow" Falling speed is not "horizontal speed" Falling slow is vertical speed. Distance, which is the goal for them, is fast horizontal speed + good heading control + slow vertical speed. Owned by Remi #?

I have this statement from you that shows that you are clearly not objective: You want something (to convince your friends to jump) and you to want statistics to support your opinion that it's not dangerous. That's not an objective approach. I'm one of the group that believe that incomplete fatality statistics (or even complete ones for that matter) will not provide any useful information for someone making the decision to go make a jump. The obective way to attempt to prove a theory would be to take an objective look at whatever data you can find and form a conclusion. What you're doing is taking a preconceived conclusion to the data and hoping it proves your point. The point that many other people here are trying to make is that choosing to skydive probably should not be a decision based on fatality statistics because each and every time anyone chooses to leave the airplane we accept that the dice might role up with our number on them. People die skydiving. Whether it's 1 in a 100 jumps or 1 in a million it doesn't matter. Let your friends make their own decisions if possible. How would it feel if you made them feel okay about jumping based on statistics that might not even be applicable to them and then they were injured or killed? Just because (making the numbers up) 5 students die each year out of 250,000 comes out to be a very low percentage doesn't mean it's safe. 5 students are dead. Statistics are numbers, dead people are real. Owned by Remi #?

I most certainly did not mean to imply that your interest was morbid. I meant my reply to be objective. You can't "know" that useful statistics are there and when you take the approach that you "know" that they are, it's likely that you're not being objective yourself, thats all. Owned by Remi #?

Respectfully... how can you possibly know that statistics exist if you don't know where they are? Are you really saying that you hope statistics exist? Owned by Remi #?

WWYD?- jump infrequently or go uncurrent
labrys replied to countzero's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Being uncurrent has much deeper meaning than the cost of instruction. Owned by Remi #? -
That explains it I guess..... the regional director was so damned busy with his own DZ that he didn't remember that The Richmond boogie was happening in his backyard and he was also so busy that he should be excused from going over to talk to the other jumpers visiting his region about their view points and opinions. Nothing more than should be expected from a guy who shafted the people who encouraged his nomination and voted for him, huh? Owned by Remi #?

RE: Surviving the No Wind Landing
labrys replied to hexadecimal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Simple geometry. If you're holding your arms out at an angle your lines are not running along the full length of your arms, which is the only way to get all the flare you can get. Try it in the air and it'll be obvious. Owned by Remi #? -

What can we do about Skyride?
labrys replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I read it as a complaint / suit not a verdict so I think nothing is owed (yet) and also took the 20,000ish thousand dollar amount to be spit amongst the victims. At 300 x 60 that seems more likely. Why would a court award someone who was outed a tandem jump 26,000? If that really is the case I'm going to start booking skyride jumps left and right starting tomorrow Owned by Remi #?
