  1. Why? Yet, our grandfathers had the foresight to know what was good for them and their families, yet in our more 'advanced' society - we don't? Ahh... the liberal point of view.... Jen Arianna Frances
  2. Exactly.... you seem to see it slightly twisted though. If drugs were legal then the necessity for 'dealers' wouldn't be there - thus, the criminal aspect of drug use/abuse would be irradicated. As I had posted: edit to add: I think you should have more faith that people know what is best for them and their families. I have never thought it approrpriate that the gov. tell me what I should or shouldn't do - think of all that they HAVEN'T told us that has affected us adversly (Agent Orange use in the Vietnam War comes to mind). So why would I think that the gov regulating drugs would be good for me? Its OBVIOUSLY not working now. Leave the people to decide! I know drugs are bad for me, and I won't do them because I know they're bad, and I trust that the general population knows also - don't you? Jen Arianna Frances
  3. It's time to re-legalize drugs and let people take responsibility for themselves. Drug abuse is a tragedy and a sickness. Criminal laws only drive the problem underground and put money in the pockets of the criminal class. With drugs legal, compassionate people could do more to educate and rehabilitate drug users who seek help. Drugs should be legal. Individuals have the right to decide for themselves what to put in their bodies, so long as they take responsibility for their actions. Jen Arianna Frances
  4. Yes, but they're early business practice leave much to be desired. I just finished up a year of working with a local 'alternative' high school in Providence, RI - a Gates Foundation funded school. The kid I was working with will be the first in his family to graduated from high school - with 4 years completely paid at U of Miami going for architecture. This kid worked hard but can't do the things I graduated HS knowing, but without the Gates Foundation he wouldn't have graduated HS let alone gotten a 4 year year ride in college - for that, Gates is applauded. 5. There are so many different kernels with Linux, and the majority are free of charge and really good - it really just depends on how much you want to (or feel comfortable) having control of. Do some research to find one that works for you. I'm currently using gnome but there are lots out there. its open source so lots of people write lots of programs for all purposes, I'm sure there's a video editing one. Good luck, Jen Arianna Frances
  6. Yep, its called Linux I've got 3 computers - one of which has linux, and its the most reliable but sadly the one that gets used the least. Jen Arianna Frances

You can always tell who the out-of-towerns are We used to call it our nascar track - going about 50 around it without hitting anyone was doing really good! Sounds like you have a fun trip planned, enjoy it

  22. Well... I'm not a fogie but I think I can answer this one... "The current from a stun gun may be generated with a pulse frequency that mimics the body's own electrical signals. In this case, the current will tell the attacker's muscles to do a great deal of work in a short amount of time. But the signal doesn't direct the work toward any particular movement. The work doesn't do anything but deplete the attacker's energy reserves, leaving him too weak to move. " You'd have to understand how cardiac cells work - they electricity generated from them is very different from muscle cells and it takes an extreme amount of electricity to disrupt it. My ICD for instance has to put out 35 joules before it does anything to me, and thats internally - externally you'd be looking at up to 200 or more for the same effect. Stun guns don't even come close. Stun guns are at a much lower frequency. In the US the FCC has very strict laws over the radio frequency commercial products can be used on, which a certain spectra of the radio band reserved specifically for medical devices also. So the wierd people like me are pretty well protected. Then again - I test their theories all the time - including the falsity that we can't go through standardized metal detectors for fear of them messing with the settings - they can't with any modern device. Back to your regularly scheduled programming... Jen Arianna Frances
  23. Have you ever said something truely stupid that you regret the moment you say it? ya.... me too.... What was it? Jen Arianna Frances
