I've used spreadsheets in the past but it's getting a bit cumbersome. QuickBooks Pro online looks interesting. Anyone have any experiences they'd care to share? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Absolutely not, but I was smart enough to not keep trying it for 50 years. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Of course any intelligent person would want people to have access to good pre-natal care, but it's no guarantee of success. It's the absolute statements that bother me....early treatment may help, not will help. To the uninformed it's misleading and so much about ACA is designed to mislead. It's not the Affordable Healthcare Act, it's the Affordable Health Insurance Act. Wait until the newly insured learn about deductibles, because I fear most of them a; have no concept of how deductibles work and b; have no intention of paying any more for their healthcare than the insurance premiums. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Agreed. Show me where early treatment will prevent SB. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I didn't realize the ACA came with a cure for SB. Bravo! It's remarkable that the concept that prevention is less expensive than treating a life-long incurable condition is too much for some people to understand. Don The quote insinuated that proper pre-natal care would prevent spina bifida and the associated costs. It's not an exclusive relationship. Let me give you an example; Head Start. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/opre/research/project/head-start-impact-study-and-follow-up One more government boondoggle that has no real effects. Ditto on everything everyone has said. I'll add that some cards have foreign transaction fees. Best to check if yours does this. Also, using plastic in Europe actually can be better as the card companies search for the best rate of exchange. Just make sure you let them know in advance of your plans or they could possibly put a hold on your account. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Everyone has access to the tools needed to better themselves. Not the least of which is a high school education. Wonderful things happen with education. Most of the truly chronic poor in this country are poor because they lack even the most basic skills to become gainfully un-poor. There were generations who probably had a claim to being poor because of circumstances beyond their control and deserved to be supported by government in the long term but they are gone now. They've been replaced by uneducated poor who choose government subsidies as a career bolstered by black market economies. I don't hate the poor...I hate people who don't help themselves. My understanding is that a side from the 7.1 million from the exchanges, there are 3 million who were able to stay on their parents insurance and many more who were able to join Medicaid. It seems the 11 million projected to have insurance due to the ADA by 4/1/14 is correct. Not to mention how much higher the numbers would be if all those red States had complied with the law. ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act. This fleecing of the taxpayers is ACA. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
-
Yes...you haven't calculated in the numbers who lost their plans when ACA made them obsolete. Net gain maybe 2-3 million at most. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Umm...put that 7 million right there with the 'jobs created or saved' numbers from a few years back. This administration is nothing if not enterprising. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I'm against it. Too many pollutants, regardless of the greenhouse effect. Well, you said we should wean ourselves off oil. How do you propose we do that? There's a ying and yang here that most overlook. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I'm not sure where you live, but California is considerably cheaper. Are you factoring in the subsidies ? I can't get the link to work, but for a middle tier, it's about $400 a month for the family you described based on a family of 3 making $50,000. I don't think the cost of insurance is based on income, only the subsidies that you will receive, Wait until people start learning the meaning of the word 'deductible'. I don't care what you are able to afford per month if you have a $9,500 deductible most younger people would be SOL. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

True, but where do you draw the line? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

I'm not talking about pollution. I'm talking about energy. Right now, the only reason we give two fucks about the Middle East (besides Israel, which is another thread) is oil. If we wean ourselves off oil, we can tell the Saudis (and the Russians and Venezuelans) to take a hike. Which side do you come down on coal fired electricity? Please don't dent the planet. Missed the OJ trial didn't you? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -
However we, as individuals, can make choices that in the aggregate might give the country more time to figure out how to keep going forward without having to go find a new planet. Just as part of the benefit of recycling is that cities don't have to go find a new dump nearly as often. Saves tax dollars. Wendy P. Agreed. But that in and of itself won't change the stated outcomes, only delay. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

Except that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Nice dream but let's reside in the real world. We, as a country are either unable (you & me) or unwilling (me) to make the necessary changes to have an impact on pollution levels. It's economic suicide, and that doesn't even begin to take into account China and India. I'm more concerned that we don't have much of a space program to go find another planet to pollute when we eventually kill this one. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

What I love about articles like this is they gloss over the reasons a person got themselves into the position they currently occupy. I'm sure it sucks for her but that's what happens when you ignore your responsibilities. Wait until the IRS gets wind of her. The officer said she had a taillight out. He asked to see her license. Ford didn’t have one. ...she failed to pay a court judgment against her for a traffic ticket in a nearby town. She hadn’t worked since being in a car wreck a decade earlier, surviving instead on disability payments of about $670 a month. Though she knew she shouldn’t, Ford...regularly climbed behind the wheel of her old Chevy. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne -
