Schweet. Good work Mountainman!! But... shouldn't that swooper be horizontal for most of the animation?

I know I'm not the only one here who lives for college football season. I'll kick off (see? a pun! ha ha funny! *smack*) the celebration by announcing that this afternoon, the mighty SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS hosted Pickens A&M, sometimes referred to as Clemson (but pronounced "Clempson" by their fans), in The House That Lou Is Building. Although I was unable to attend, I listened to chunks of the game via a streaming radio broadcast, and I'm sure everyone in my dorm was puzzled by the occasional shout of GO COCKS!! Or not, because I've been known to bellow that across the courtyard whenever I see other students from South Carolina. But anyway, USC (no, not that pathetic excuse for a PAC-10 cheerleading squad) won 20-15, and the game wasn't as close as the score indicates. The victory ensures a bowl game for us in some sunny climate on January 1st, with the Citrus Bowl a strong possibility. If that happens, I may be able to break away from the family long enough to join in the tail end of the Collegiate Championships festivites. awwww yeah!

Not at all. Most US DZs are just as isolated as yours. Some are closer in to cities, I think there are a few that got bit by the extra Class B airspace restrictions (Class B airspace is centered on the airports of 32 major cities in the US, and extends a few dozen miles out from those airports). But by and large DZs are going to be surrounded by undeveloped land.

Heh... all you have to do is rename it to .gif. Opens fine. (Even if it didn't open okay, you could upload it as a .gif, and I could rename it to .id on my end.

It's stored in C:\windows\aim95\[yourscreenname]\picture\ . When you post, make sure "I want to preview my post and/or attach a file" is checked, and hit continue. Then copy "C:\windows\aim95\[yourscreenname]\picture\[yourscreenname].id" (be sure to replace [yourscreenname] with your actual screen name) into the bar where it says "You may attach a file if you like", and hit continue.

I've split my training between two DZs, one small and one big. At the big DZ, I mostly did tandems, but when I went on higher-level coached jumps the spot was explained to me, and since we were first out on occasion we did look down to confirm that we were over the right place. They explained which landmarks were useful (i.e. that football stadium is 1 mile from the DZ in X direction), but I gather the actual spot was done on GPS by the pilot, and of course the loads were turning, so any problems the previous load had were immediately relayed to the pilot. At the smaller DZ, I did no spotting during AFF. (I was probably too nervous to get it right anyway.) On my graduation hop'n'pop, I spotted a Cessna load. It wasn't difficult b/c we didn't have to judge freefall drift, and winds were L&V, so I put us out right over the runway. I gather that the question you're asking is "From nothing but a winds aloft report, could you spot your DZ's regular load without Hellen Kellering everyone?" The answer for me would be no, not now. But it is something I want to learn, and something that I'll make a priority when I start up again in the spring.

For those of you who use AOL Instant Messenger, I found the coolest buddy icon. It's the little AOL running man, but he zooms through the picture from the top and the caption says 'Skydive!'. UNFORTUNATELY. I lost this in a reformat. If any of you had me (PalmettoTiger) on your buddy list at any point, do a search on your computer for a file named 'palmettotiger.id', and if you find it, post it here so all of us can impress our friends on IM. Of course, if you know where else to find this icon, let me know that too.

Cool. Thanks for the help everyone!

Dangit. I wish I could be there just to hang out (our club is on indefinite hold and I don't even have an A-license yet, so no competing for me), but I have to go to a wedding in St. Louis instead.

Shameless bump. Did I mention that I just got my November Parchutist? Frikkin anthrax letters completely borked mail processing here and at the 2 stops above us in the mail chain, and it's going to take a while for that backlog to clear out.

any luck finding them HH?

Only if you're getting video.

Team Fortress Classic?

You have to download the Grammar Fairy™ plug-in to read these forums. It inserts capital letters, punctuation, and correct spelling in the rare event that these are somehow removed from the post in between the user's computer and the DZ.com server. nothin' but love, of course ;)

fun! .. but getting slower by the second! DZdotted? ;)

Help me out brothers and sisters. The photo finish in the latest Parchutist reminded me of another picture I saw, but I can't remember exactly where it was. I checked through the DZ.com featured photographers and also took a few stabs at a google image search but came up with nothing. The picture I'm thinking of had two people freeflying as the space shuttle launched in the background. Does anyone else remember this, or am I mad?

ADDICT. You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming, at least until the pieing pictures go up. TIGER

I've sworn off file trading for some time now. Of course, I COULD make exceptions.... Especially since I'm going to get a jumpsuit and full-face soon

Thanks Clay, exactly what I needed to know!

damn, only 8 posts from addict. Can't believe I never tried to knock that out. We've got 2 cameramen ready for this, luckily he won't be suspicious of that. Though the giggling may give us away at the last minute. TIGER

Hi folks, long time no see eh? A friend of mine turns 21 today. What better way to celebrate than pieing him? The catch - the only opportunity we have is when he'll be wearing nice clothes. What should I make these pies out of so that he won't have to spend lots of money on new duds? The PLAN: Target gets a birthday cake. Target sits down to birthday cake with back to door. Target does not notice 3 people carrying 2 pies each coming in the door. Target closes eyes and makes a wish. *SPLAT* Target gets a bit more than he wished for. Target has his pictures posted if we time it right. The materials: right now I'm thinking 6 cheap-ass pie tins and 3 cans of Redi-Whip (you know, the kind you turn upside down and spray, or alternately the kind you use for Whippets ). Should I use Cool-Whip instead? Do the cheap pie tins present any problems? I need info ASAP because I have to go to Wal-Mart to get this stuff and Rt 1 is a BITCH of a traffic jam anytime after 4:30. Thanks for your help folks!! TIGER
