No flaming .....promise! I was just about to start jumping my own cam system at a tad over 200jumps. I thought exactly like you and frankly dismissed the advice of those saying ''not ready...'....'more jumps first' After a load of research...I am stepping back from cam jumping for a 'few' more jumps....because of what ( through the smokey haze of flamers) seems to be a few pretty consistant points from people who are experts at this kinda thing. 1. Be 'more' than comfortable and I mean 'more than' comfortable filming the type of jump you are going to film. 2. If there is anything else on your jumps thats taking your attention away .....( from being comfortable just filming)...dont add a camera to your dive If people can 'truly' feel like that at 100 jumps......good on you...I certainly didnt.....and I consider myself a pretty confident 'have a go' person And the most important thing.....start 'too soon' and you will get good at 'flying camera' too soon and this will definately affect your own personal progression in whatever flying you are doing.....your mates may be flying hot shit moves in front of you....but whats your job.....staying fairly close but flying STABLE keeping them in frame......whilst this in itself is a difficult skill I am sure.....it means you cant hot dog with the peeps you are filming.....they are learning....you are filming it! Consider....one newbie to another...take it for what its worth... That said...ignore all the above and go jump.....get a nice low profile helmet that has a cam housing incorporated into the helmet.....get any sony PC camera...and a nice low profile lense ( eg Royal lense) and already be comfortable flying with audibles....and shitcan any RSL you may have My personal equipment recommendation is what I researched into and got: 2K composites FF2 helmet Sony PC109 Royal Lens 0.3 Please BEAR IN MIND I only have 4 camera jumps and my newbie advice therefore should only be taken as it is offered....as my own personal experience through practical use and research

.I would say I am more than comfortable sitflying ( going where I want at the speed I want ) and 'comfortable' headown..in the air I have an hour ( ok...I know thats F'all) in the tunnel but of course no matter what .......you start tunnel freeflaying on your back.... It simply highlighted to me how completely crap I was on my back and how I had neglected that for the sake of sitflying and headown flying.... It was a big heads up to me and now whenever I can I want to practise backflying as much as I can.........I have just bought my first camera helmet ...but to be honest I want to do alot more on my back to be able to say I can go 'exactly' where I want to go....before getting into freeflying that cam much. As I see it....being a competant backflyer is the absolute fundemental of 'freeflying' ( no matter how good you are in sit or headown)...ESPECIALLY if you want to fly camera for shit.....'cause from what I have seen...you'll need to be a backfly master to really get the sweet shots .... Im 6ft ++ so I was personally frustrated trying to backfly in the tunnel with such a limited space available to me ....movement other than stable or turns in place I would always be hitting the walls before I had actually moved The Perris tunnel gave me a taste and a definate wake up......I think I'll be back for more

My apologies......I had some footage but must have deleted it off my HD in the last cleanup, cant find it.....sorry

Agreed....for simple edits...its quick easy and actually quite easy to learn/use. When you reach a point where you say....'why cant I do this.....' I'm sure Premiere can fill the hole. Look to Pixelan on the web for some great MM transition and effects plug ins as well... I have never had a problem with the export quality....I'd say the 'skipping' another has mentioned as being a hardware problem......it does kinda limit your opetions to.wmv files though.....if you dont choose to export as DV AVI

I got one around somewhere.....A few CReW dawgs from Perris on Lightnings......I'm sure the W/L are under there abouts 1.2-1.4 Give me a day or so and I'll hunt it out....

Explained well and understood.......thanks

Thats a great picture...thankyou.... So from the diagram I am assume that the break cord 'breaks' (duh !) "releasing the PC and Bridal attached to the PC. Does the bridal attached to the structure serve a purpose?...ie is it designed to be able to break should a problem occur with the 'break cord' attachment. On alot of the videos I have seen the canopy is released from the container and the lines at line stretch before the PC is released ( ie before the break cord breaks).........if thats the case...why do you even need a PC attched on these jumps? Couldnt you attach the canopy bridle to the structure via the break cord directly? Excuse an idiots naiveity if there is a simple answer to these questions

Well its 6pm in the UK and all the TV channels are showing some solidarity by all playing the 'Band Aid 2004 - Feed the World/Do they know its Christmas'- song /video ( Y'know...what Bob Geldorf started 20 yrs ago) My typing may be bad ....its because I am crying in PAIN This is just about the worst song and video rehash I think I have ever seen..... Its a bloody larf! Whilst the principle behind it is sound....I have to say the 'product' here is just bloody awful.....All the pop star industry 'luvvies' should have spared us all this fiasco and just donated a '1%' of their 2004 salaries .......sparing the General Public the pain of having to endure this..... Thank God if you live outside the UK you wont be bombarded with this crap everyday before Xmas

You did.... And for the record....I dont 'put digits in rectums' during my 9-5.....past 6pm.....well that would be for recreational purposes

Well on that premise my beat is.... stuff inside stuff that fixes itself ,thats broke and needs stuff that doesnt fix itself puttin' inside stuff to fix it....and needs people to check it to make sure it dont stop workin' Im sure that makes sense.... Figure out what that is...and your stock goes up a couple o points

Could somebody explain to me how you attach a static line/PC to an object so that the PC holds through line stretch and initial deployment but then 'breaks free' without damaging the PC. Im not asking to put it into practice !! I have just seen it a few times on video and wonder how its done...... Are there ever any issues with the PC/bridal not releasing and causing some sort of hangup or deployment problems? just interested.......

DV camera/software not flying related question.

Thats a very good point.........the image you see in your preview screen during editing is NOT what you get when you export your project. Apologies...I had assumed you has already exported it and still had poor quality images The preview window is exactly that ....a preview.....and as a default most preview screens are pretty low quality so that little editing changes dont takes ages to render, but are 'real time' -
lol........now thats a sweet camera sight

I think there are plenty of people who feel passionate about how things are done and run.......it does tell another story however if the majority of people in the Association remain apathetic about getting involved in it......I would argue that alot of people simply regard the BPA as a membership that is a necessity if you want to jump in the UK......beyond that...well 'm not sure. I have seen this is another 'mandatory' National association ( the English Ice Hockey Association)......you have to join to participate in the sport...beyond that...no-one really see's whats being done 'for them' by the Association.....but if you dont join up....you cant participate From what I see of the BPA minutes....it must be terrifying for somebody 'new' or without 'allies' in the association making an impact on something....because there does seem to be alot of alliance's going on in the background that can make or break decisions on various issues.....I might be wrong, this is just how I read it from the minutes.

DV camera/software not flying related question.

The only problem with MovieMaker is that whilst the array of compressions formats is decent.....it always wants to save them as .wmv files ( being windows)....apart from .avi option
