DV camera/software not flying related question.
Zoter replied to GeordieSkydiver's topic in Photography and Video
Exactly......check thye default settings you are using for capture in Movie Maker. If you want the 'best' quality then choose the capture format as DV AVI........as a general rule.....whatever format you choose to capture in ( and there may be many) the ones that have the biggest file size are usually the best quality. If you are loading huge amonts of data.....ie > 15-30mins....you had better make sure you have a huge hard drive as wll as a pretty high spec video graphics card ( for capture) Personally.....any file that is over 1 Gig....i 'breakdown' the capture into smaller files....this just makes it easier to import into most video editing software programs.... So its not the 'software' you are using thats at fault......it will be the format you are 'capturing' it in, or the limitations of your systems video capture hardware.........other than that...are you sure the DV tape is not in any way damaged....or old ( ie written over many times), this may affect the final capture quality as well. Edited to add: if you are using Movie Maker '1'....downlaod the latest version of Movie maker ( '2')......the Capture /Options screens/prompts are a little easier to understand....and a bit quicker as well -

Can anybody 'steer me' towards some useful web links on BASE kit packing and rigging....I'm flagging a bit in my own research and could use some help.. Thanks

Easy.....Its Hibaldstow. Dornier G92's....15K in under 15mins and 15 K on just about all loads.... Super friendly people......cheap alti tickets ...load organising.....very progressive.....clean/tidy/cheap/bunkhouse and bar and great parties.... Your 'summer' jump numbers are only limited by how much you want to jump and how quickly you can pack.... I live in London too and think a long drive up North is always well worth it for what ya get.....

I have to say i do agree there are some truths in your post.....some.... And certainly I have moved on from at least one UK DZ just because of this pompous type of attitude... However I also would like to say that I have not met a more friendly , helpful, 'lets get you up in the sky' dropzone as I have experienced at Hibaldstow....they break their backs to make sure both students and experienced peeps are looked after.... Heck I'm more than happy to travel three hours to get there when I have local DZ's within 45mins's.....for me its worth it. Its as close to a US or European philosophy on 'the customer orientated way to running a DZ' that I have seen in the UK after jumping at 5 different UK dropzones...and a few international ones. I still have a few UK DZ's to get around that I am sure are great....so no disrespect intended....but It might take a while....Hibs has got everything i need

Interestingly I recently created a DVD (PAL admittedly) that encorporated both PAL and NTSC imported clips....Im not entirely sure what format they were encoded to...I think it was MPEG4....but it was seamless and on playback there were absolutely no frame rate/blending issues . The program was DVD Architect ( on the back end of Sony Vegas Software).....and for sure is the easiest DVD authoring program I have used in terms of getting 'good' encoded clips that are both NTSC and PAL......real easy to use, I tried it in multiple players as well .....PC's and standalone DVD players= no issues

Hi ! I had an AirCare RW suit made for me last year. Overall its very good....the quality is very good and its very durable ( although it has not been getting too much use in the last 100jumps or so !!) I have put it up against a Symbi suit and to be honest for what I needed it for its fine......the booties are not as high 'spec' as the Symbi suit, but and....heres the thing....they work fine....!! I'm sure somebody on a RW team with 3 zillion jumps is going to INSIST that they have 'Mega' booties.....but do you really need them? The grips ( get the competition ones) are big and chunky....just like everyone elses.....

Boom.....I think a couple of you here completely missed the point of my last post..... As thats the case I guess I must have put it across wrong ... I was throwing something out there of.....what about WHAT equipment a new cam flyer should be allowed to use to help minimise the risk equipment related problems flying with a camera helmet... All's I wanted to put across was that often doesnt even get a mention.......and thought it should... Would a Batrack with a 'bare' mounted stills and two camcorders present any more of a 'equipment' related risk to a new jumper than a low profile, completely covered single mount camcorder...?
-
Wouldnt another avenue of advice given to new camera jumpers be education on the typeof equipment jumped ........as opposed to what seems to be a fairly stock answer ......jumping a camera is dangerous, dont do it...... Im sure alot of camera setups are alot more 'dangerous' than others..... I am one of those 'newbie' camera jumpers just about to start out.....I have spent considerable time , talking with cam jumpers as well as researching to ensure I have as 'safe' a system as I can get as a beginner. Of course strapping a cam to your head instantly ups the risk ante....irrespective of 'what' it is there are other safety issues involved......but us newbies dont hear alot in the way 'what type' of system are you planning to use?........surely it must make some considerable difference? Should beginners be restricted in exactly what they can strap on their head .....with the same importance levied as to when they are allowed to strap something to their head ?

Wrong.... The PC109 camera only has a LANC , MIC , A/V and DC in connectors. All the other connectors ( USB, DVin/Out,S-Video, a second A/V port and a second DC in port) are on the docking station which is supplied with the camera. I had a look at both cams and it appears the 109 is more 'side mount' friendly and has more options when it comes to finding of the shelf D-Boxes or mounts. I may be wrong but I thought the effective CCD capture for video was just over 1 Meg.Pixel on the 109....dunno about the HC series.

Nac, When did you start jumping camera......and how did you go about it and get on initially.... I have just got my own setup up organised......( FF2+ cutaway and a PC109) and am nearly ready to start. I have done alot of research on here as well as at the DZ.......rather than start' blind' after hitting the magical BPA 200jumps target... But still interested to hear your experience. Care to share ?

Fair enough.... -
convenience of having heart defillibrators at dz?
Zoter replied to windcatcher's topic in Safety and Training
Only problem is .....unless the severity of the "mass" trauma is 'instantly assessable' ......and you dont have to use much imagination to think about what that looks like....its going to be 'difficult' for the first responder to accurately assess that the heart rhythm is secondary to trauma and not worth resuscitation.......thats the decision of a qualified medic to make. If as part of an 'A B C ' assesment you think that an AED is warrented.....let it do its job.....if it doesnt need to shock or the rhythm is not shockable.....it wont ( most of the time )......but that should not stop someone carrying on with ABC asessments and CPR (if necessary0 until a qualified unit can take over... -

Bill.....I think you must have missed a portion of my post to which my comments have been related Are you still suggesting that you withhold CPR because they may have secondary injuries that you 'dont want to make any worse' ?
