  1. I guess its just a matter of time before a GPS unit is incorporated into these units..... Initially just for review pre exit /post jump.....but then maybe some HUD kinda thang for the Birdmen... Its all good...... I can see it now......on a 'cloudy' GPS spot PILOT: EXIT EXIT EXIT JUMPER 1: (click....click...click) No way man my ProPostioner puts us 3 miles out of the DZ and I aint got no wingsuit.....keep flying !
  2. Now thats just given me a vision of a completely new discipline.......at last ! a new way to unite free and flat flyers.. 4 way RW but with 2 on their belly and 2 on their back at all times....turning points ....hmm lets call it "Hybrid RW" for want of a better description I think thats got a future.....
  3. If your booking an hour at Orlando you'll break even on the Paris costs (including flight expenses). *** Please re -evaluate your post with the 'real' costs vs fantasy costs....(dont forget to inlcude...transfers to from airports, accomodation, taxes etc) 'Tunnel' time stateside is cheaper than Paris.....practical costs for UK based jumpers is not..
  4. Deuce that was just my suggestion.... L& wont pick it up for a while....they are 'out' until February... Anyone here got any concerns over a digitally controlled altimeter?? (even though it looks conventional)
  5. Ditto.... Or hows about the altitrack having a little 'addition' that fits in the palm of your hand and vibrates at the preset altitudes...... Can you imagine having a few of these on you at pulltime......lights and bells going off like crazy ....lol
  6. Not quite as much fun......but do a search on yell.co.uk.... People who offer this service are ten a penny these days in the UK......of course if you want a full lid custom job its gonna cost. But a simple design/motif are cheap.....and you will get exactly what you want. Take what idea you want to them.......and it will e even cheaper. As I said ....not as much fun.....but saves the hassle
  7. I have a PC109E and 2K composites FF2. They are very good together. The only criticism I could possibly have is that the Camera 'Box' on the helmet is one size......and comes with foam inserts to fit to the size of the camera....you specify when ordering For the PC 109 with a low profile lense ( eg Royal Lense) the box is a little big......because the camera is so small!!......so I have added extra foam inserts to 'pad it out' more Other than that its a great setup.....looks good...secure...and (with a low profile lense) there are virtually no snag points on the system. The cutaway system with the helmet is excellent as well... Ditto....on the docking station....alot has been said of how much of a pain it can be to do firewire transfers......well its not that bad....the docking station is pretty small. Its about the same nuisance as remembering to bring a firewire cable with you ! The 'E' is simply for 'European' model ( ie PAL) as opposed to the PC109 ......an NTSC (US) version. How much did your cam cost you if you dont mind me asking?
  8. Zoter

    4 year old BASE jumper

Yeah.....but The landing area looks 'soft' and I bet he 'progressed' up to that exit from the other stones......
  9. Wicked photo......one of the best I have seen here....
  10. Lots of available coaching.... Load organising... Variety of jumps and variety of people to jump with ( all skill levels) 'Can do' attitude from manifest Nice Weather ?????
  11. True.....but it can happen. Think of all situations here. In an ideal skydive you are right !....you take a second or 2 to get your very best deployment position get it out there. Think of something not quite right.....the silly little things that can happen any skydive. 1) Your goggles riding up your face....so your not looking with eyes open....maybe squinting. 2) Trouble located your hacky 3) Some piece of your jumpsuit fallping around that wasnt secured right.... 4) something else taking your attention ! ...bad breakoff or someone lost alti awareness so you are already a bit low. These and others can affect just exactly how 'cleanly' you throw your PC..... Unlikely? Probably Worth considering? Probably Would like to hear from those with experience of these systems.......
  12. I have my new Camera helmet ready to rock as well.... I was going to go for an Optic Illusion....but in the end decided that I think it would be safer with a box that surrounds the camera and is moulded close to the main body of the helmet. Hence the 2K composites FF2 (plus it has an ace cutaway system )
  13. Was thinking more about a 'burbling' PC/Bridal catching on your foot. Not impossible if you think about being belly to earth in a boxman position Never mind anything unstable......
  14. I have always found there is a stage of 'messing around' with the program ( and for me thats usually 3/12) before any of these wonder books are actually useful....
  15. Just to add to my previous post regarding how 'snaggable' is a foot mount. Picture attached of a foot mount in operation (Courtesy of skydivingmovies.com/Team Crank)
  16. |A specific answer to help your specific problem in your rant !! There is a very nice set of plugin tools called SpiceMaster TX for Prem.Pro from Pixelan.... which has abso. loads of zoom/pan effects to specific parts of the screen.....without having to use key frames and the 'motion' controls ( and get the dreaded off screen BLACK creeping in) Its cheap as chips, if you pay for your software....and you can actually get a full demo version for free just to try em out first http://www.pixelan.com/sm25/dlform.htm
  17. I kinda like the ethos we have here in the UK Its actually quite difficult to start doing 'silly stuff' without having to go through the CCI or Senior person on the DZ first.... Maybe its because the DZ's are a little smaller and so its all a little tighter.....but peopel trying to do stuff thats just way outta bounds for whatver reason have to take it through the CCI first.... It can kinda drive you nuts if you have an ogre in that position or when you are hungry to progress.......but sub 200 jumpers flying highly loaded ellipticals???......tell me if I am wrong here people but theres just no chance of that happening in our DZ culture
  18. Jesus......just use your hand and flush it...and then go wash them with hot soapy water !! Anything after that will just make your immune system stronger... All these 'precious' peeps who dont touch this or that dont give their young immune systems a chance to do summin' useful.... If the bog handle has got blood or some 'other' fluid on it....fair enough.....maybe dont even flush it....if it has that....your probably in some dropout shithouse and peeps probably wont care that you didnt flush !!
  19. Would be interesting to hear what experiences people have had with foot monted systems....in terms of problems. The system I saw ( from Bonehead I think) looked pretty snaggable if your PC bounced around it or you had an unstable deployment... Riskier or safer than an unprotected ( no box) helmet mounted system ? What do you think?
  20. Its a bit of that...."new camera flyer being distracted just by wearing a camera even though they are just recording Point of view stuff"....'thang From what I have been told this takes time to overcome. Im sure the CCI will want you to be 'comfortable' with 'regular' (ie helmet mounted) camera flying/recording before doing anything 'different' .....just my thoughts Im on the verge of taking my setup into the sky in the UK. I'm taking a bit of time to make sure that my 'skills' are suitable ...(back to the tunnel on my belly), my equipment secure, approved and as snag free as possible......before I approach my CCI for cam flying approval. A bit OTT maybe.....but I think as already said the preparation you do reflects your commitment to what you want to do, and therefore a better chance of getting approved by your CCI.
  21. The Camera box on the side is one size The foam insert is changed dependant on camera type. The foam insert is simple....its similar to the 'ear pieces' that you can take out of a Pro Tec Helmet..... Its easy to just add more, or take away foam as needed for your camera. The Box looks big enough to accomodate most types of Sony PC style camcorders. A list of camera types supported is on 2K Composites web site. The camera mount is the universal type ( ie fits the screw threads found on most camcorders)
  22. I say its as free as you want it to be.... I can honestly say I have absolutely no problem manifesting for a solo.....jumping out and freeflying.....doing my own thing....and absolutely lovin' it.! I do have to say that I found solo flat flys very boring...but since I started freeflying....thats never the case. Sure its nice to jump with friends in a group.....but If its total freedom you want ......forget dive plans...pre /post jump briefs....politics.....any pressure...and the sniggering masses who think jumping solo is a waste......go out and do your thang!
  23. I guess it doesnt help at the time......but avoidance of future episodes of this situation through better exit separation and better guidance on avoiding moving into the previous groups airspace ( exit separation, turning off jump run after exit) has toi be the way to go....... Just dumping high presents a problem to the next person who exited 'if' they didnt give a good exit separation and didnt fall straight down the tube....
  24. Guess thats a 'Vert-Dirt-Dive' then
