  1. No no ...thats clear enough , thanks Rather than change grips to 'go to toggles' on a 180 where the object has been avoided through rear riser input.........is it not better to just ease off the amount of rear riser input and still continue the turn until the desired heading is reached.... Or is the altitude loss between riser/toggle turn that different?
  2. What 0.5 Lens do you have ....? Is it a Royal Lens..? If so....what do you think you get out of it if you zoom it in to just before you lose focus.....0.7????
  3. Why...? Or rather.... whats the advantage of this methodology over just using risers to turn yourself away from a 'non' imminent strike? I'm not being argumentative......I just dont know
  4. Glad you are still alive......that looked horrible Is there anything else you can do after a strike to improve the odds a bit (Control Input).....or simply wait to slide onto a ledge? Bit too wet for you today ehh Faber ???
  5. If you use most Music stores ''online" Yahoo.....ITunes....Virgin....etc. Once you have selected a tune.....there is nearly always a feature that says... "people who downloaded this music also listened to ....." yada yada yada Its not always 100% corrct but Itune Store gets some pretty good 'matches' Where you choose to download said track once you have listened to the sample is ....your decision
  6. March 23rd-9th April. Details on how to get to the DZ can be found at www.skydivespain.com Its about 20 mins from Seville... Theres not much on the website about the boogie...simply because it recently acquired new 'owners' an I think they are putting togther a new site......but its definatley happening. Call the Hibaldstow DZ ofice if you need details about the boogie. Its a cool little DZ run by Brits......and as well as it being their opening boogie.....if the BCPA are in town....I'll bet there is a load of coaching going on... I have been to this DZ for 3 holidyas...always good service with a smile in great weather... See you there !!
  7. Search and ask questions... I bought a Royal Lens 0.3 as my 'first' lens ......I regret that now...a 0.6/0.7 is far more appropriate as a lens on your first cam unless you really are a shit hot flyer......
  8. Skydive Spain (Seville) Opening Boogie is On..... Sounds like its going to be reasonably busy with the British Collegiate Parachute Association descending on it as well as locals from Hibaldstow DZ. I'm curious though as to why you are cancelling your AFF course.......you dont have to already be an expert to start !!....and things like unwanted turns can be quite easily fixed with the help of a good coach... You already have a headstart in comparison to most people doing AFF.....as you have some tunnel time. I say dont waste your holiday....go for it !!
  9. So its gonna be the first gorgeously sunny weekend in the UK this year..... I packed last night and left work early today....n found out my car battery is flat ...so I have to wait a couple of hours before I go anywhere...... Just was watching some vids to pass the time and started thinking about a slow deployment sequence I was watching..... Now we all know we need sliders on ram air chutes at terminal speeds How did they slow down the openings on all of those 'old' chutes....rounds ParaCommander...Thunderbow etc........ Did they need it?...if not why...
  10. Bullet Freefly at Langar.... No 'named' school at Hibaldstow......but if you call ahead there are usually plenty of peeps around who can help you.
  11. Lucky buggers.....I'm staring at a new job in the UK thatt helps me 'kick back' a little from what frankly is a far more stressful job than I am prepared to accept for more than a few years......But I am looking at a notice period of 12 week with my present employer
  12. I dont think there is much in it..!...HIBALDSTOW A fleet of aircraft...a can do and progressive attitude..... If the weather is good....you'll get up, they have the resources, staff and aircraft to support that......every day except Tuesday. Clean and tidy bunkhouse.....great bar......and plenty of facilities I live in London too and dont think a jot about travelling up there......I know if its jumpable....they will put you up and really take care of you.....they have a very serious customer service vibe going on.....best I have seen at 6 UK DZ's I have been to. Nuff said www.skydiving.co.uk (and no I dont work for them.....but have seen what they do !)
  13. Not true The camera does have a AV jack ....output to a TV is not an issue.. Just in case anyone is not sure I will spell out what EXACTLY is on the camera and what is on the docking station.....as there always seems a little confusion over this issue This is for a PC109E (PAL version ) but as far as I know its exactly the same for the PC109 (NTSC version). ON THE CAMERA LANC MIC A/V DC-IN (power in) ON THE DOCKING STATION USB DV/FIREWIRE ( In and Out)- One port S-Video A/V DC-IN For me and you it comes down to needing the docking station to transfer footage......compared to say a cam with all the ports 'on it' This is very very sound advice......you'll beat yourself up buying todays technology that you wont use until next year......really you will

    ZP EXE

Ditto...On many a 'deep' spot (Sometimes as a Freeflyer you just get used to this!!...always getting out 'at the back').......I have never had an issue getting back, quite the opposite....when you want it to float...it does that just fine. Sure it is ground hungry when not flown with brakes/risers....but I kinda like that It sure is durable .....some of you may have read my thread of a Premie on a ZP.Exe at over 190mph....not a scratch on it! and anyone who owns one will deffo tell you how flippin easy it is to pack......perfect for them 10min calls..! Summary from me: I wouldnt buy it if i was looking for a 'peformance canopy' but as a workhorse or 'beginner canopy'(at the right wingloading) ... it will serve you very well.
  15. I hear you....but that wasn't the case. Exit order for the most was never even raised until (at best) the aircraft was ascending. How did I know?....because I was usually the first person at the boarding area and certainly never the last and really....it was not discussed. Maybe people organised themselves as to how people were 'dressed'...maybe.......but I wear my FF suit for all jumping not just Freefly. Anyway I am not having a go at Perris........I loved the place and will definately go back.....its just an observation ( and yes I did feed it back before leaving and felt I was listned too....I wouldnt dare bring it up publically if I hadnt, thats chickenshit)
  16. Gonna have to chime in here to support that comment. Only been to the US to skydive once...Perris Absolutely awesome place, very friendly people cant say anything bad about it ...APART from the exit orders. I did a fair amount of jumps and there was a huge variety of people doing different disciplines on board ( was around the Nationals time)....exit order was never broached until people were actually ON the plane...even then your proximity to the door did seem to influence your exit order'. The first few time I said 'nothing.....its not my house and I'm a 'low jump number'skydiver in comparison to the people around me....but I do know whats safe , whats not and whats in the 'middle' I got a little frustrated by no one actually 'taking charge'and determing a good exit order. To be honest the stock answer was "check your spot and give it 6secs from the previous exit".......effective- yes , but does not take other variables into consideration After a few jumps I simply took it on myself and asked all those around me what they were doing and 'negotiated' an exit order. That said ....I never saw a problem when it was a 'free for all' exit order....no close calls....no drifting into 'others' airspace...etc In the UK we generally dont have this kind of free for all...a designated Jumpmaster ( someone with experience of the DZ and the DZ's exit order policy) will determine the exit order before boarding...so people are seated accordingly. This was the only thing I found 'odd' at Perris......and Im sure its because of the amount of jumps they do there.......I found it 'odd' that more experienced people didnt seem to give it much consideration......I've always been taught that the poetntial dangers of getting it wrong warrant 'consideration'
  17. Not really......the 109 is quite a bit less 'chunky' due to not having the extra jacks and associated hardware on the camera itself. IMHO.....there is quite a difference in anything other than 'high light' conditions where the bigger lense of the 105 produces clearly better images. I am just completing a video edit whereby both a 109 and a 105 were used to film exactly the same shot ( indoor...well lit windtunnel). Some parts of that edit show the shot from a 105 and 109 together on the screen.......I'll upload a portion to Skydivingmovies.com when its finished so you can see the difference for yourself. Im sure the quality of shot from the 109 is going to be 'better' in bright natural light conditions.....but there clearly is a difference. Personally I own a 109......and am happy with it. I am a bit tired of having to carry the docking station around everywhere to tansfer footage......and would have preferred it to have been on the camera.......so in hind sight I should have opted for a 105 ( not many around to buy)
  18. Why not just install XP...? dont like it?...cost issue? If you are not happy to use it as your 'usual' OS.....just partition your HD and install XP on the Video editing partition. As far a I am aware you need XP on a PC to run Pro.1.5
  19. Plenty going on....if you have a look around http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1512309;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  20. I am looking to start filming a junior 4 way Team this season. Would it be 'prudent' for me (as the camera person) to do all their gear checks prior to boarding ?? ( as opposed to getting others doing the gear checks) Any other vid people do this ?? Is this a good 'pattern' to foster I mean the other person most likey to get hurt in the event of a prem or something.....is the person filming them...so it would be like additional gear checks that helps save me from trouble I ...at the grand 'ol total of 200 carry the 'highest' jump #'s in the group and.....due to my freeflying .....am the most anal regarding 'tight' equipment....
  21. Been thinking about this from another point of view..... If people want ( and I dont think evryone does) BASE to be accepted, and therefore maybe help 'open' up a few objects ( or at least increase the chances of the owners of these objects providing consent to jump off).......... The 'People' who make these activties 'acceptable' and drive that view forward ( Government,Media etc) are going to HAVE to know the 'stats'. The list provides a description of the times its gone wrong and as already stated viewed on its own provides a skewed take on fatalities during this activity If you could reference that list to the 'approx' number of jumps made in the time period.....or any time period....this would reflect more accurately the 'risk'. Thats evidence..and stuff you can work with. Only problem about it being acceptable....is that it risks becoming mainstream........which risks more people entering unprepared....which risks another spike in the incidents /fatilities
  22. Would be nice if someone could run a survey on any given night/weekend... Post your BASE jump numbers for that period of time... That would give an 'idea' of how many jumps are happening on a given date Edited to add :Me 'tinks dis is probably for Blinc
  23. Shoot me if you will....what the hell do I know. Reading 'The List' objectively, and not sensationally, made me decide to do alot more groundwork and research before making a first jump. It helped polarise a view that this 'sport' and its risks are very real....and bad things can , and probably will happen...... If any newbies think like I do.......then that list helps keeps future 'additions' to a minimum......so it should stay and be available publically. As already stated....this type of information will always come out......you cant hide this information. At least on this list its displayed with accuracy and respect. Viva la List.......although it would be great for it to just gather dust, because there are no new 'updates'
  24. guess what it is...... www.skydivespain.com Its always been a good DZ , home from home.....but its now kinda 'part' of The Swallows' Enterprises ( They own Hibaldstow....the best DZ in the UK !!) So they have a big fat Dornier G92 !!...super fast turbine to 15K. The Opening Boogie is from March21st-April9th. I dont think the website has been updated since its become part of the Target Skysports group....but if you look in the latest 'Skydive' mag....boogie details are there
