  1. Yu hear it on here all the time......buy a canopy thats right for your experience now....not what you think your experience will be in 200jumps time. I have a huge canopy and its totally square.......and whilst being on the butt of jokes regarding its size......I have learned an absolutely huge amount in terms of canopy control in the last year on this 'bus'....becoming more confident bit by bit in all aspects of canopy control. I'm so happy I have not downsized eraly.....instead of worrying about control and landing I have been able to experiment and learn new techniques...confident in my able to handle the canopy I absolutely know now thats going to be a huge benefit if I decide to downsize......taking the time to learn canopy survival skills on a forgiving platform. 'They' ( the experienced ones )all said it....I didnt think so.....but they were absolutely right. I enjoy the fact now that I can put that canopy down safely where I want it in just about any reasonable wind condition....nil or high
  2. I have recently started filming 4 way RW. I'm still having a little difficulty getting the exit 'just right' I am using a pretty baggy freefly suit at the mo whilst I wait to get some wings.....but I think its not all about that....sometimes I get it perfect, but I am lacking consistancy . As a person who learns more effectively by visual means.....I would appreciate it if anybody out there can point me towards some links for outside video and piccies of the cameramans exit, good or bad....so I can study how they exit Thanks
  3. I have used at least 6 different editing software programs on at least 3 different spec machines.... My personal opinion here is to keep it simple... I have had 'problems' in the past capturing using Prem.Pro's capture tool......now thats a quality and expensive program......you would be a little peed off if it didnt do exactly what you wanted on the capturing front because the program is resource heavy I merely suggest that Windows Movie Maker is FREE and is as good for capturing as any other program out there......and the fact that its not an all singing all dancing program means its LESS likely to cause problems with your hardware/system resources.
  4. If you have a PC.... Use Windows Movie Maker ... It comes with your PC ( or is free to download) and is as good a quality as the capture functions on dedicated editing software programs. The only drawback is that you need to save it as .avi or .wmv files....but thats not a big issue really...most peeps work with these files types as the 'source' files anyways
  5. Its all relative.......I fly a 215/9cell.... I'm usually the first or second down on most loads as my wingloading/canopy combo makes my glidepath quite steep.......and it can spiral down on a penny..... Its all a matter of wingloading
  6. I'm happy to jump without an AAD if I am on my own.....if I smacked the Aircraft on the way out/had a stroke on the way down, omething that made me unconcious/unable to pull .......I'll consider that fate and my time, and I have already dealt with that demon. I would not be happy to jump in close proximity with others without all those involved (including me) having a Cypres. If shit happens ,they get knocked unconcious and go in...I dont want that in my head...simple and as brutal as that. I dont think having a cypres should be reflective of how 'confident' some people feel in their abilities not to need one. Anything can happen.....probably will at some point....and well for gods sake...it cant hurt to have one....stump it up..shell out..get one and then forget about it for 4 years
  7. Come up to Hibaldstow Mac.... Come somewhere where you will be treated right....ie...like the person who is actually paying the DZ for service. Low pass?....no problem..... 15K in 15mins...no problem.. What YOU want is what YOU get... Hibs...leading the field in terms of how UK DZ's should be run...facilities/Altitude/Attitude/And a real desire to keep it moving and get the lifts up there.........right on! I dont bat an eyelid travelling up for a day or two from London....because its always worth it And Membership fees????? I dont need no stinkin' membership fees Oh yeah....my last 15K ticket was £17
  8. Ditto on Max Cohns 0.3 and 0.5 Lenses If there is distortion AndyMan......its so slight it does not affect picture quality. Perhaps you could post a few screenshots that highlight this distortion.... With this lens the fact you can zoom in...is super low profile , deffo no vignette and is 'reasonably' cheap....makes it an great all rounder IMHO
  9. Or a potential last one....enjoy every one the same no matter what you are doing... I say there should always be at least one bit of fun on every skydive you do.....or else...whats the point
  10. Thanks for getting back to me.... Actually there is a generous cutout present already.... Even with this ....its still a fiddle to get the cable in via the inside of the helmet ....and I am convinced that repeated 'fiddling' to get it in to the AV port will result in a premature failure/break of this port....which I am keen to avoid, hence my 'alternative' suggestion. With a short cable in situ....I can simply 'unstow' it and connect the TV's av cable to this smaller one....
  11. I have a PC109 and an FF2 Helmet Unfortunately the AV jack is ágainst'the side of this left side mount helmet. I have just started filming 4 way and of course they all want to see the footage as soon as they get down.........its a pain in the arse to keep disconnecting the cam out of the helmet to get access to the AV jack. I am planning to construct a short AV cable ( say 5cm) that I can leave plugged into the AV port on the camera and then can 'stow' in the ample box that surrounds the camera.....thus making it much easier to connect up to the TV Does anybody have any comments on thsi ?? ie....does leaving an AV cable attached all the time cause any problems/isues for the camera or LANC port ( Cameye connection).... Or is there any chance of this negatively affecting the camera / recording?? Thanks ...
  12. I am pretty much in the same boat as yourself... Recently a 'C' and strapping a cam on my head. Before I did I did a considerable amount of research to get the lowdown on risks/precautions/techniques On advice I did a few solo's first to just get used to it being there and what happens on deployment Then some low intensity (low way) skydives that I was very comfortable with ...2-3 way sitflys with people I know.... I have just started now to film 4 waywith a junior team.....they are not too bothered if its not 'perfect' everytime, which is nice....... freeflying is my preferred discipline...so before I started filming RW I elected to do an hour in the Paris tunnel just to 'get current' again on flat flying..... I have to say I am finding it quite challanging as well as a great opportunity to 'refine' my cam flying skills in a fairly low pressure environment... When I get Freefly coaching I just waer a normal helmet......too much to worry about without worrying about video... Best advice I have been given so far is just go out and do comfortable skydives without even thinking about the camera...point of view stuff......just to get happy wearing the camera helmet...get used to getting it 'right' ...later on. Hope that helps....just a fellow beginners views...!
  13. True.....but with an FF2 and a low pro lense ( eg Royal Lense) there is practically nothing that can snag a line.....everything is enclosed in a smooth cornered box. I'm just starting with mine an d did get a couple of riser slaps on deployment to start....but now....my helmet doesnt even get touched by the risers. The fit on an FF2 made for you is amazing as well.....real comfy
  14. Nice video... I have just started filming 4 way...phew...it aint easy!! Just reinforcing the points that have been made....more straight cuts to the beats would have been nice. + 1) Theres a nice sequence (at 1:57 to 2:06) where a slow mo sequence, transitioned in ... with perhaps a simple special effect (warm invert say) would have looked way cool with the subtle change in melody and the shot you had (falling through the clouds...)
  15. Aggie Dave speaketh the truth..... There are just a couple of more important things (at your level) to think about before learning freeflying......really...not being argumentative....but as I said...AgieDave speaketh the truth...
  16. Another question to get some postings on thisn particular forum.... HGow did you learn to side slide headown....where did you start...how did you progress and what do you do know.....
  17. OK.....in response to the previous polls call for new posts....here's one... How do you initiate and stop a turn whilst headown... Please post how you started to learn this...how you progressed and what you do now....and any little bits inbetween
  18. ehhh.....Zero Porosity Fabric by the yard?? Thanks for the xplanantion though Dave....
  19. Who else does a packing video.... I have the BR one....but am interested in seeing a few more.....especially since every packjob I have seen seems to be done differently !
  20. I weigh in at about 240lbs in kit.....I am still very much a beginner in headown.....but can hold the position down the tube... My average speed is consistantly in the 170-180mph range.... When i try and go slower by doing a daffy....I find it really quite hard to get my legs comfortably straddled.......my suit has reasonably baggy legs Its interesting to hear about a few guys struggling to keep under 200mph.......I thought I was falling like a brick at 180 with my inexperinced style and weight
  21. I had mine today..... Should of been in work at 9..... Woke up at 8.......got up at 9:30.....tea and toast......spent a few hours online at DZ.com/Blinc/....watched some daytime TV.......went into work at 1pm........had a fifteen minute meeting......went online at DZ.com 2-5.........bought a new cam lens from Royal lens's.....went home at 5...cracked the beer open.....went online again... I seriously had no motivation to do anything work related today.....thank god my CEO is away this week..!!!
