  1. If its too low ....and you are doing 4 way.....take it off the top end....dont get out at comp height....get out at max altitude and count your 35secs ffrom the top end to deternine your BO height...
  2. Went slightly 'low' (not seriously....just lower than I planned) on a jump yesterday.....getting 'the shot' Note to self: Everyone said it would happen.....and they were right, no matter how safe you think you are its gonna happen......read/get experienced camflyers advice, absorb, learn...live
  3. So in this scenario....the fact that a suspended mass is placing 'tension' on the cable and the loop assembly... holds everything in place.... remove that tension ( unloading the canopy) decreases the 'bonding' between said loop and cable so the loop can slide off............ How does the loop slide over the cable when the distal end should be housed in some sort of 'keeper'...? or why would the cable come 'out' of this keeper...exposing the distal end..?

    Robot Chicken!

    Thats awesome.....lauging my ass off
  5. Lucky for me on my scooter.....I didnt skip a beat getting to and home from work... The Hospital was crazy busy today ....and I decided in lieu of news about what transport is available tommorrow......screw em....we'll soldier on and plan a list in the Labs tommorrow morning. I'm going back to work now to spend some time with my on call team ( who decided to stay in the Hospital).....any doubts about the effort/cost//validity of the campaign against the Terrorists has completely evaporated now... Send them all back to Allah....... Stupid fucks think that doing this would do anything but strengthen resolve against them kinda' highlights their stupidity...
  6. 'Jo ' at Hibaldstow..... Friz...she would eat you up and spit out the bony bits And she's already taken.....surprise surprise
  7. Likewise.....If you need somewhere to crash tonight and can get to Finsbury Park...give me the nod here.
  8. Very nice flick....very nice. I personally didnt dig on the music....but it did fit the content. The camera work is superb......no doubt about that. Especially the swoop scenes at sunset.....they are very nice and the differing slow mo rate is a very nice touch combined with the very good angles you shot from to maximise the sunset in the background. In my humble opinion...slight overuse of the crossfades...(ie a bit too often and just a tad too long on the crossfades). The ripple effect works well....simply because its not abused... The opening exit scenes and the swoop scenes got my attention....I drifted a little in between....but appreciate you were 'setting the scene' for the swooping finale.... Excellent stuff though (shooting and editing)...I'd be very happy to be able to shoot and edit something as nice as that... Got any more stuff you'd like to share??
  9. Thanks for the comments.......just what I needed...really Friz...in terms of speed.....this was a deliberate attempt at a very 'chilled out' flick.....I have done a few wall to wall music banging vids and just wanted to experiment with something you could sit back with , crack a beer and relax too. As for compression....its difficult.....uploading to the web always is going to take a toll and the whole debate on quality vs bandwidth is always a dilemma for those uploading to such sites......you want to make the movie accessable...but have to trade off some quality Wish y'all could see my uncompressed version in surround sound.....its very different from what you can see on the web.... The track by the way is Destiny by Zero 7 thanks again for the critique...truly appreciated anybody else have any comments...please chime in and add... (By the way MO ....Hi....we are in the same business!!..I'm an EP person too.....arnt things coming around for us guys now over the last few years....EP is where everyone wants to be now !)
  10. Ok so here's a new movie I edited with footage I shot ( mostly) with my first few months with my Sony pC109. Bit of everything on it... I'd like to hear what y'all think about the movie.....specifically the editing, shot and music selection/appropriateness..... I'm tired of people kissing my ass telling me its 'cool'...thats nice but not very useful Some constructive critique would be appreciated....so I can make future stuff even better.... what did you like....what didnt you like..... All comments appreciated....and oh yeah....enjoy the movie
  11. Last I heard the projects are going to payed for by extra taxation of LONDONERS and its neighbours.....and not the rest of the country.... Apparantly we are the only ones who are going to benefit from the facilities after the Olympics have finished.....( I'm getting a mental picture of the Dome here after it served its purpose.....and getting a very sour taste in my mouth !) On the other hand....I can move out for a couple of weeks...take a skydiving vaction to FLA ... rent my pad out for some extortionate price ( I'm only a couple of miles away from the site of the Olympic Village)...and still come home without losing any money ... So maybe there is something good in us getting the Olympics.... So it cant be all bad....
  12. I see from your profile you have a little 'paperwork' to sort out before you can take that thing into the sky
  13. 1) Cut the strap......if you are using your cam as a skydiving camcorder you wont miss it.....if you do mis s it...it just needs to be sewed back on again.....not particularly difficult ! 2) I have a PC109 and Royal lens.....my lens is about as close to the lens hole on the side mount as it can be without touching it.....perfect ! It does not protrude at all....and even with the 0.3 lens I dont see any of my helmet in the shot....again...perfect. Your lens looks perfectly flush.....provided your cover is not 'scratching' the lens when opened/closed....it looks great 3) I had the exact same concerns as you and was advised to jump it.....even with a 'little' play ( mainly due to 'flex' on the Lbracket.....I have never had a problem with movement/camera shake....my advice...screw it to the secure L bracket and forget about it....go jump it....address any problems you have after that.
  14. My experience of a valsalva manouvre in pre syncopal patients is that a 'traditional' valsalva manouvre is not as effective as plain old repeat deep coughing in maintenance of conciousness. All depends whats its down to......if its cardiac related ....heres my experience I personally have been involved with at least 3 patients in VT ( Torsade ) and VF who were about to lose conciousness, and I had no access to a Defib and was on my own. These patients were instructed to cough vigourously....whilst I scuttled away to get help and pick up the defib.......they were all concious enough on return ( granted less than 2mins) to be continuing with their coughing.....all still in VF They were then instructed to stop coughing and all lost conciousness quickly...... ( and all were successfully defibrillated) Thats gotta be worth something.....
  15. Its definatley time to go to bed.... At first glance I thought that read .... MANLEY girlys gonna be attending... eeegghhh ! Shame I am filming the sausage suit brigade this weekend or I would love to join y'all
  16. I got a pretty good idea that Gus knows exactly what 2-3K looks like.....and feels like .....Feels a bit high....
  17. Will be there in spirit !! But will be filming sausage suit fliers at HIbs this weekend.... Have fun....
  18. www.skydivespain.com The Skydive Spain DZ is run by one of the biggest DZ owners in the UK. Its BPA ( British Parachute Association) affiliated so runs to the same rules. BPA rules as far as I know are even more safety concious than USPA rules. The CCI ( man in charge) is an incredibly experienced Instructor and DZ operator and is also a Senior Rigger Examiner I think you will be quite safe there !! I believe they have an SMG there at the moment ( Similar to a Porter)...very quick to altitude and they are running max altitude on most loads
  19. I felt the same at my vist to Perris last year. But put it down to 'Rules of the game' You get what you want......but they make it just that little bit clearer than other DZ's that its ALL on you.....you take the risks....you take the responsibility for your actions. I cant say I can criticise them for simply making that very obvious before they let you jump off one of their planes..
  20. I saw someone go in under a fully inflated canopy at Headcorn....didnt even look that bad so all I felt was confusion when the ambulance and helo turned up....just confusion ,disbelief and profound sadness that someone having fun could be hurt like this.. these feelings were amplified when I heard he died later from his injuries. I didnt even know him other than to look at him, cause i was new there. I know he was loved there as a regular and hearing the pain of others loss, doesnt make my memories of the event any better Read the quote...exactly what he said especially the second line
  21. hmmm I smell a salesman ! My 2 is just get any freefly suit........do what the rest of us newbies are doing,,,learn to freefly first ! ...worry about how good the suit looks later. Choosing a suit is much less of an ordeal in FF than RW.....as your 'range'will get much better the better you learn to fly. Most peeps I know learn to sit in trousers and a baggy top...... Spend th cash getting your head up and down in the air before sweating on what suit is going to complement your style ! As said...just my 2
  22. I've not even jumped yet but have GC'd a bit. Can I also suggest ( if possible) you try and park your car as far away from your object as your lazy ass is prepared to walk. Fair enough a quick getaway can be the order of the day. But I'll bet for most of you that being stealthy ,being patient and not having your car on the verge of the turn off road to your favourite object is going to increase your chances of not getting caught....
  23. I did x2 Landings at the weekend just using the rear risers. (Toggles were unstowed and there if I needed them.....but I didnt) I initially did some 3K + rear riser 'stall's ' without incident.....on my canopy the stall point is considerably deep .....but stall it completely I did , which resulted in what can only be described as a 'backwards surge' and alot of canopy movement and noise. Controlled release of the risers facilitated uniform reinflation without incident ( twists/slack lines) On the rear riser landings ... The canopy initially 'planed out' alot faster than I am used to with a toggle flare, but was 'flared' without too much bother. I did notice on the second landing that 'wings level' control on the rear riser flare during a gust of wind took alot more control than with toggles . 'twas an interesting exercise that I would like to explore more.... By the way....I stood up both the landings As I am currently getting my jumps for free...filming 4 way....I might concentrate on this and other aspects of canopy control.... Maybe even start downsizing .... On another note I tried some deep front riser turns (at about 3K) and pulled the front riser rapide link down to well below the level of my chest strap... All I really experienced was a noted increase in vertical descent but no appreciable 'diving turn'........ This was tried on into wind and downwind runs. I'm still thinking about how that works..... Opinions...appreciated
  24. I was thinking mores towards the 'extra' engineering put into a Mriage G3/G4 that was done to reinforce the container.....make it field repairable by having distinct componant parts that can easily be reordered/replaced . I'm noticing as a bigger guy that I'm putting alot more general wear and tear on my container/main than others .......and I look after my equipment. I'm not at all suggesting that other rigs are not safe for bigger guys....just that based on the wear and tear I am getting.....I'd prefer a container thats well 'over' engineered .
  25. It did...you have.... High....yes, high...try, I will (In the style of Yoda )
