Its not a problem.....but I think It can / does need 'more' careful inspection. I have had one incident with a premature deployment whilst freeflying which I ( and others much more experienced) agreed was down to having a BOC /Hackey/Throwout.......there are many more variables involved....packing of pilot chute/rig design...etc......but all are quite sure this would not have happened if jumping a 'pullout' design. Look at it for yourself....think about how you fly/want to fly and think about how the air will flow over you and your rig. Most people jump BOC throwaway's ......and they are obviously safe.....but do more...get someone experienced to check it out......look out for potential problems..( spandex tightness/bridal routing etc) and get any problems fixed early. I personally still jump with a BOC throwaway.....but am alot more cautious checking/packing that particular part of my equipment. I also buck the trend somewhat and pack my PC quite tight in the BOC pocket......I recognise this IS NOT recommended by those with a ton more experience.....but its the way that works /reassures me and works fine ....for me ! Those are my personal opinions.....my advice is to talk it over with a Rigger/Experienced jumper who knows you and can actually see/feel your rig

I have never claimed to know 'everything' I have never claimed that compromising safety to get 'cool video' is acceptable. I merely have disagreed with generalised statements regarding the ability to be able to perform certain taks before an arbitary number of jumps ........unfortunately the minute you disagree with anyone on here with more jump numbers they immediately take it as an attack on their knowledge base.. Statements about 'No one has any business camera flying sub 500 jumps".....or '"you have no awareness..." when these people have absolutely no idea of an individuals pereformance prior and current are purely inflammatory and as a reaction to being 'disagreed with'....... Disagreement in this particular circumstance has been twisted into a discussion over my particular ability to be safe....... What you may have been like at 200 jumps is not necessarily the why I am at 200 jumps.....just like there will be a difference in individuals at 1000 jumps.......if not and we are all the same...I'll shut it, but we all know thats not the case. I really wont be adding anything else to this thread...Rhino is quite correct here and I dont have anything new to add

For as much as the original topic has been discussed , you obviously have not been reading the specifics in the postings.... At no point I have ever suggested that its 'OK' to compromise safety to get 'Cool Vid'....quite the opposite in fact. Go and actually read the posts, and perhaps add something constructive ... Commenting on a topic without actually reading the material posted suggests a level of complacency.....and thats the first step to problems in any situation.. So far thats about the most constructive post I have seen here on the topic......

In general to your post.....maybe I am 'different' ....but likely not But the arrogance of the initial statement ( ie camera
-
Keep to the point....dont try and justify your argument with a completely different subject that has proven inferences that you are trying to relate your original argument with..... What your are inferring is that people in my experince level are unsafe with camera.......you are mistaken This may have been valid when you had
-
As per usual.....the bias will always go to those whose numbers are 'higher' Maybe its a UK/US thing.......to jump camera here is not as easy as just doing it. I'm insulted by the original statement.....as it insults the hard work /preparation I have done to jump my camera. I'm a total beginner to it.......but safety is a total concern.....like just about eveyone around me doing the same. Because its my concren I have no doubt that I will be around long enough ( at 500jumps) to get right back to you and confirm my ( like others) attitudes are the same....jump number independent....ie safety first But of course you might not be interested to hear that in a year......

I dont have one.... What I do have is a very realistic and practically based knowledge of what I can and cant do Most of that is based from practical experience and the advice and consults wityh my peers. Hearing such generalised statements about "you have no business..." etc is merely inflammatory and highlights your lack of experience to recognise that certainly in my environment ( an those I have observed) that many many new camera flyers today seek alot of advice training in equipment and techniques in order to stay safe
-
Hows about looking at the 'best' video mount system from 10 years ago and comparing that to the best from todays systems........in terms of snaggability on deployment........I'm sure there is a great difference. Dont assume that attitudes towards the other dangers have not progressed as well....based on the experiences/statistics of our pioneering camera flying experts
-
Take a step back.....me like plenty of other dont 'claim ' to be good.....what we do claim to be...is responsible and safeon every dive. Taking advice from our own clans and people on here all the way.......but always with safety at the forefrint of our minds ...always....you have picked 2 examples of problems.....on both of them I agree poor judgement is made But way that up against the volume of people jumping with cameras....with a safety attitude being forefront ( take DZ.com postings on the subject as a crude barometer) and see that your generalised statement about people sub 500 jumps jumping camera is a poorly judged refelection on whats actually happening today...
-
Dont want to be rude but as much as your advice makes sense...ie having a camera on your head and focusing on your subject makes you lose your peripheral vision.... But can I suggest that if you have a framing device.....newton ring site...or equivalent.....you can keep your subject in frame.....HOLD your head still ...whilst your eyes are mobile and scanning your peripheral vision periodically
-
I mean no disrespect....but frankly thats just a generalised bullshit quotation. It might have been the way it was 10 years ago.....but its not the way it is today. I am not disrespecting those who have been before.....but personally ...and for those who have done a lot of hard work/research/learning at such low jump numbers to just have the opportunity to fly camera with safety issues/techniques....being at the forefront of our minds....that statement is plain insulting Yes we have everything to learn from those with more time ......no denying.....but to say everyone sub 500 jumps shouldnt fly camera.......is just wrong I personally have done alot of work to ensure that my equipment and technique is as safe as possible.....whilst maintaining a very healthy respect for the boundries of my abilities... There are plenty of people out there right now..who think just the same. You dont agree? Just as an example.....take a search here from newbie camera people asking about techniques and about suitability of equipment..........lots of questions and lots of informative answers/advice. If people sub 500jumps didnt give a shit......you wont find anything...........

Cool.....thats where I am going and thats what I needed to see.... Thanks

Which Pac was that.....which DZ.... UK..???
-
Thanks guys...thats a big help
-
Thankyou for your prompt reply

I dont think it matters if the video was edited at all.... Regardless of the situation/dive...that opening was far far too close.... If the other jumper suggest that it was Ok.....I suggest you show that to your DZ safety advisor for their opinion...

So I am guessing that a 'Peel' exit is probably the best bet for getting decent video ( I am a newbie camera flyer) on this type of plane....?? What exit were you guys doing ?
-
I have sent an email to Aerodyne ...linking this thread...hopefully someone from Aerodyne will drop a post here. As a Smart Reserve owner......I'd hate to think I let a potential problem just pass me by

Any camera guys out there got any tips/advice for 4way camera exits on a Pac 750XL ?? Never jumped one....but will be quite soon.... Its a left hand door low wing 18 seater Advice about run in speeds....camera steps/grips...appreciated
-
Thanks for the advice.....sounds very helpful. Its quite hard sometimes...even with video to see how it worked...or went wrong. Getting the next groups cam person to pop his head out after exit sure helps......but thats often a luxery. I'll keep hammering away at it....and get wings
-
Could you elaborate on that a little? I'm quite big....and I thought the extra drag off the suit would have been beneficial on exit....ie i drop a bit slower than the 4way so I at least am able to get above them quickly whilst still being out of the way on exit..... Thats just my thoughts.... Why would a less baggy suit be better?
-
I have read Quades great articles More specifically... On a leading exit......I'm interested to hear some views on ýour'exit techniques....for a left rear door plane..( eg Dornier G92, Otter, Caravan,) ie...do you 'float' your left or right leg Do you slide down the fusalage of the plane or jump into clear air Do you jump...'forwards'...'backwards'....'sideways' or 'fall off' and whats the best body position to leave with.....flattish or arched... These are the kina questions I'm looking to answer Thanks again
-
What exactly were you missing with freeflyers videoing your team..? At the mo in my FF suit ...apart from the times I get the exit wrong...everything else is in frame....all arms and legs are visible and close enough to evaluate. What do you need in the video...ie why more steeper? Thanks for the help and the link to quades website
-
have recently started filming 4 way RW. I'm still having a little difficulty getting the exit 'just right' I am using a pretty baggy freefly suit at the mo whilst I wait to get some wings.....but I think its not all about that....sometimes I get it perfect, but I am lacking consistancy . As a person who learns more effectively by visual means.....I would appreciate it if anybody out there can point me towards some links for outside video and piccies of the cameramans exit, good or bad....so I can study how they exit Thanks
