And I'll sue you for suing him! These 'would you sue if....' threads piss me off too. There are no guarantees in this sport, your equipment may fail, the plane may crash and you might die. If you don't like it take up knitting. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Reserve packing for European rig used in the US.
gus replied to juanesky's topic in Gear and Rigging
When I took my Teardrop SF/Tempo to Zhills I was expecting them to tell me I needed a repack because (1) the container/reserve are TSO'd (2) I was 5 months in to our 6 month repack cycle. But the lady I spoke to at Paragon (?) implied that since my gear wasn't manufactured in the US it was ok. From reading the regs I thought she was wrong but I wasn't going to argue! Buying a digital rebel for use in the UK

Morning Gary, shouldn't you be doing some work or something? Anyway, take a look at the menus here (specifically the "Setup 2" menu), it looks like you can select PAL or NTSC. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
Have a look at the LANC Remote Control here and the CamEye Sport which both claim to be able to control the camera in VCR mode. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I store mine like that and haven't had any problems. Advantages? Keeps the excess brake line from flapping in the breeze. Disadvantages? If you had a brake fire but the toggle stayed in place is it possible for the loop of brake line that's under the elastic to be pulled taught and lock over the stiffener at the bottom of the toggle? If you see what I mean. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I think dacron is more elastic than spectra, so that it will stretch during deployment and absorb some of the force of the opening. At least that's what I think I read on here a while back. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I'm not sure that this is a fair test. Why would the bag come out unless there's some force to extract it? Even lifting the rig by the bridle won't exert that much force (15, 20 pounds? Whatever the weight of the rig is) compared to a nice big pilot chute, even at low airspeeds. I've popped my reserve before a repack, the pilot chute came flying out as expected but the bag stayed put. I didn't think anything of it - but I'm not a rigger! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hey Ian, There are some great docs right here on dz.com which will explain stalls (and a whole lot more). Have a look here. I'd say it was more than a good thing - it's essential. Knowing where your canopy's stall point is and how it reacts when you stall it and recover it could save your arse one day. Just make sure that if you're trying stuff you do it up high where (in the worst case scenario) you have time to cutaway and get your reserve out. And, as always, seek the advice of your old instructors or experienced canopy pilots at your dz. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Warning: unqualified opinion approaching..... Definately! I just retired a pc that was giving me some horrible delays and each one was followed by twists. It seems to me that if the pc isn't 'positive' enough when extracting the dbag then there's more chance of the bag flailing around (for want of a better technical description!) and giving you twists. The turn itself won't but digging out hard could cause a high speed stall. Correct? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

The problem with skydivers is that all they want to do is skydive! I'd really like to do some other stuff (other airsports) but not enough to actually sacrifice time that could be spent jumping

As far as I know the Let's not coming back and the 206 is off to Tilstock. That's assuming that the new Caravan checks out ok and everything goes ahead. The Skyvan will be coming back for the boogies. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I just heard that Langar's jump tickets are going up, I think to £19 for a single ticket or £180.50 for 10 (they were £18/£171). I'm interested to know how other dzs compare as I don't travel around much. Sibson? Hinton? Hibs? Nethers? Headcorn? What are they charging? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

It's been suggested that they contribute to off-heading openings. Not sure if that's what RW is refering to. The search that turned up that thead took less time than it took me to write this reply. Hint, hint . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Given how important we're always told that canopy control is in BASE I'm staggered that anyone would advocate mentoring someone with zero skydives. Give someone the best possible BASE environment (friendly legal span, daylight, whatever) and it'll still be a poor learning environment for canopy control compared to a skydive if only for one reason - time in the air. The better you understand your canopy the better you can fly it and in terms of gaining that understanding there's no substitute for actually spending time under the thing - something you'll rarely get much of in BASE. Clint, have you looked at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/? They've got compatability ratings for media and dvd players. I'm using Ritek +R and haven't had any problems. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

That thing is taken as gospel round here. Is it a genuine simulation or is it a mockup to prove a point? I'd love to see some actual hard data, eg from a gps unit, on all this. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Fair enough, let me re-phrase then: the point at which loosening your chest strap stops letting your canopy spread more is the point at which there is no longer any tension in your chest strap. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
