Wow nice park.. KC is poping up with cement parks like crazy... there is a new capsula bowl thing here.. I will try to go by and get a pic of it.. the thing is nuts! And Kona, that park is a legend! I am trying to think back how long it's been since I was at Kona and I would have to say it was like 91? when I went on tour.. hell I am not sure now.. oh well the place was great. that year we went to Milwaukee and hit the Turf skate park.. it had just got refurbed from Bell E buttons and was ready for skateboarding once more.. that place was the sickest park we hit that year! I have icy hot on my knees right now.. I blew both of them back in 1988.. I had one "fixed" then but not the other one.. it's gets me from time to time. i used to love the hand rails, did them all the time and looked for the next biggest set.. now I use them to walk up and down stairs with.. it's a new concept for older skaters but that rail thing was a good idea for a walking aid. Tonight my girlfriend Christina took me to the skatepark.. Wow it's been along time since I have been on my board. It's funny because I had always made a little fun of the old guys that would come to the park and ride.. now it's 20 years later and I am that old guy that the kids are making fun of.. ahh it's fair play I guess. Christina took a few pics of me.. enjoy Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Drop Zone Ethics - 101 (In Kansas City)
jdthomas replied to jumper410's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quote the only positive thing i've noticed is that the new dzo's have refused to be petty and political in any of this. reply] And that right there is an awesome thing! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com -
A few years back I about ran into a jumper, he had a premie and was a bit below me.. wow that was fun! When we all where on the ground I gave him a few closing loops and fit it to his rig so it would be nice and snug. Since that time I have been making closing loops and giving them away, this year i have mailed out closing loops to friends at various dz's that i like to jump at and asked that they give the loops out to others.. i actaully have been doing this for years. So this morning I sent 190jumper a small package of closing loops. We could get into a whole debate on changing these things out, when and who should do it.. but who cares. Some peope don't know and yelling at them, or making fun of those who don't know about gear does not help anyone out. Thru his loss of his cloing loop was a plea and some choose to educate and help the jumper and the sport, others not so much. If there is just one thing that each of us can do to help each other out and making closeing loops is what i can do then so be it. Oh 190jumper, you will enjoy that I sent three diffrent colors of closing loops.. the pink ones that are so popular and I get request for al the time are currently out of stock.. but maybe some day soon.. until then enjoy the Purple, orange and blue ones that I sent you. Don I will never argue your stance on USPA or anything like that, thats your opinion and I share a few of thouse thoughts as well. But no one has to have any type of rating to run a dz. as it has been stressed before this is another business and it's that simple. This is where I stand and I will make it known. As I stated to you in a PM sent today, I have no stake in this no dz. By that I mean that I am not on staff nor do I wish to be on staff. I am no longer intrested in working in skydiving at this time. If I wanted to be on staff somewhere i the KC area I would have stayed with Tommy and MRVS. I like Tom and he has been great to me. I now am a customer that spends money. I work hard for my money and thats the kicker right there. I am an EMT by choice. EMS people don't make great money. in fact I make 10$ per hour dealing with blood, guts and vomit! and sometimes less and sometimes more. Put the math behind that and I have to work 2 hrs before taxes to pay for one skydive! thats two hours of sick and injured people. I have the day to day bills we all have as well and I am thankfull to have Christina to help out with that dept or else I would not be able to attend school at this time. Yesterday I dropped 350$ for two summer classes. I have gone over my monthly budget and now can't make any jumps this month because of school. But when I want to jump I want the altitude of 13.5 wich the new dz will offer. the other local dz's go to 9,000ft and cost 20$, the new dz is the same price in a roomy otter going to 13,500ft. Throw in the fact that skydive kansas is 1.5 hrs away, skydivekc is also an hour+ away as well as mrvs and with the new dz within 30mins.. it's as simple as that. I am a fool sometimes, but I try not to be foolish with the money or what little money I have. I hope this helps some of you Don and others that may question my motives.. and one more note.. i just don't like the dirty games that where played bu other dzo's. that also helped influence myself as well as others. Arai My sister has a ridgeback and she is awesome. My girlfrined and I have a rescue dog that is a black lab mix, but I call her breed All American as we all are a mix here. Anyway, I think it's great that you are wanting a dog, our's has been a blessing to our lives.. but I wish you would consider a recue dog as there are so many wonderfull dogs at a local shelter that would be fatihfull to you and fill all of your needs! Please at least look at your local shelter first before deciding on a what kind of dog you want. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Don If you are comapring number of loads and jumpers then i think that the new DZ out flew the other boogie at MRVS. I am not trying to argue anything with you. The otter never shut down at the new dz and flew more jumpers per load. Yes the porter may have gotten three loads per hour and the otter only two, but when you haul 6 per load and the otter took 20+ per load the numbers for the otter where just greater! well Joemike it looks like you might be on to something there. Time will tell if we can keep a turbine in the area, I would like to think that we can. I once again will say that I work very hard for my money, and when it comes time to throw money out the door of an airplane I want the biggest bang for my buck! Cessnas to 9,000 ft for 20$ or an otter to 13.5 for the same price.. hummm? I would be crazy to go with the lesser of the two! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I worked my 24 hr shift on Saturday and it was actually a 23 hr shift with 24hrs of pay... how nice! Oh and we slept all night with no call outs for my crew.. even better yet! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Bigun I like that idea of that as well... too bad that this may never happen. It hurts me if people pencil pack my name. I usally use my ruber stamp and sign the card as well.. makes it pretty hard to scam that one! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Hey thanks Don. I can't make it down to the new Dz today as my work is in the way. But I will make it down to the new dz on Sunday. I have got a few calls and the report was that there are at least 100 jumpers out enjoying the turbines. Last season KC had no turbines, just cessnas that went to 9,000 ft. now we have TWO turbines in one weekend at two diffrent DZ's... how cool is that? way cool! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I grew up in a small Kansas town and I often miss that lifestyle. Last night was one of the first nights that the people that live on both sides of me have met for the first time.. they met in my yard, it was nice! Coming from a small town I want to know the people that live around me and I want to call them friends, but here in KC calling the people around me friends have proven to be hard, but I will overcome and we all will be friends I am sure. Small towns are great, I miss the pace of life. Someday after I get out of school I will get back to a small town. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I am gald to see you advance on to Paramedic school, just don't become a paradoctor. hahaha I have been in such a debate with myself on what to do for my paraschool.. kansas has basiclly done away with paramedic and is now a MICT and thats an associates degree now and not the paramedic school that most states have. But I live on the kansas and Missouri border.. so the delima? Well at 35 years of age do i want to get classes done in 10 months in Missouri and be a paramedic or go to school for the next three years in kansas walk out as an associates and the MICT? The draw back is three years of school means I am stuck as an EMT-intermediate in kansas and make very little money, the plus is I have the associates and can add Nurse with ease when I reach the burn out stage. The Missiouri course allows me to become a NREMT-P in about 10 months and then get to work, then free myself up for classes to work on the Nurse goal... arrrgghhhh where to start? I am now taking some prereq's and still moving fwd but just have not made a school choice yet! Anyway... Glad to hear that there will be another jumping medic out there! With skydive Wichita closing what will be the outcome for ACDZ and Suppesville? Will Martin get a turbine? Will Suppesville come up to Wichita and try to stop ACDZ? Will Farmer McNasty and his Trolls come out of the woodwork and make post on this fourm? (see kansas city threads!) Oh the Kansas skydive politics! Hey martin you know we love you man! Riggers - do you use packers?
jdthomas replied to councilman24's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I use a packer when thier is a boogie, when I was busy doing other instructor stuff or just when I was lazy.. sometimes i used a few packers when I knew they where tight on cash and I was not.... As a rigger I must admit that once I have had the ol reserve done by another rigger just because I was lazy and he owed me a favor! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com -
yes it does help to be 5'6 and 135 pounds, the rock climbing skills where a plus as well.... I had video of all my jumps from the PPc's but that tape and camera where stolen.. that was a bummer. I will never forget the pilot that took me up the first time. Ronnie freaked out the first time I got out. one thing is he had never been that high (3,000ft) and the next is he thought i was falling to far, as if I waited to long to open my parachute. When Ronnie got down he was so pumped up that he was ready to do that again, and hey since I was getting paid by the hour to jump then why not? I miss jumps from PPC's! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com
