+++ What does +++ mean? Does it mean that you WISH that businesses would be operated in an ethical and socially responsible manner? Does it mean that there should be regulatory intervention from state and/or federal government agencies to make this form of employment discrimination illegal? Yes to #1 is what I expect for an answer from you and your kind. Otherwise you would be expanding the government powers and removing choices from the free market. That would be quite progressive. And that ain't how you all roll. Why should the government regulate how the free market for employment works? Why should businesses be forced to accept un-employed job candidates, Asian job candidates, Mexican job candidates, female job candidates, or any other people that are deemed "undesirable" by the management? This is a perfect example of how the power of owning the media message can teach people to believe things that are not factually correct. What sounds plausible and believable is actually totally and completely wrong, as defined in the rule of LAW. Yet credulous people will repeat, over and over, that which is worng, even when corrected with FACTUAL information. The USA is screwed. The cause of the lack of funding can be connected to many causes. The tax cheating companies exposed in another thread are one cause. The other cause is the absurdly low income cap for FICA taxes. Eliminate the income cap completely, remove the exemption for capital gains, and the problem is solved forever. This change would allow the tax rate to go DOWN drastically, in terms of percentage of income, for all taxpayers. Of course, RWCs would NEVER do anything to even out the tax rates between low and high income folks. Any RWC that has been well trained by their media masters knows that the high income folks are kinda godlike and richly deserve to pay less, in terms of a pecentage of income, than the rest of us. If we leveled the rates, the country would fall apart. The gullible RWC morons know that is the official gospel. Believing otherwise is a sign of too much education, too much intellect, and having a real grasp of the facts of the matter.

If they would like legal and social approval, they are free to pursue that. The people on the Big Love TV show are suing to allow polygamous relationships to be legal. That is how the system here works. If they can come up with a compelling legal argument, they might win, if the judge is NOT a right wing activist. Homosexuals should be allowed to marry the person of their choice. That are entitled to be as miserable as the rest of the people who get married. With a divorce rate of ~50%, it is clear that respect for the institution of marriage is rather limited.

Your understanding of the tax code is quite the parroting of the mass media marketing of what has has really hosed up the US economy. Take a step back and do some research on the history of the tax code and what has changed over the past thirty years. Don't forget to take into account just how well the economy did when taxes were radically different than they are now. Capital Gains taxes are now at 15%. Capital gains used to be taxed at the same rates, and higher, than ordinary income. The concept that was well understood at the time is that this type of income has nothing to do with ones labor or effort. It has to do with timely inheritance of investments and property, as well as picking those tangible assets that are likely to gain value over time. This type of income can and should be taxed at rates comparable to ordinary income. The tax code has been greatly re-written to the benefit of the extremely wealthy and polically connected corporations. Taxes are at their lowest rate EVER. Tax evasion and off-shoring profits is now considered to be good business practices, not a morally odious and ethically evil practice, as it used to be. Corporations do everything they can to privatize revenue while pushing costs to government. We the people let them do this to us piecemeal, starting with Reagan, and moving right on to modern politics. Credulous people jump on the bandwagon for the so called party of small government that actually is the party for the extremely wealthy. The rich are making out like bandits now. So are the major corporations. Due to the extremely low taxes these days, they have no incentive to put that money back into the economy. Remember tax writeoffs? The combination of high taxes and generous writeoffs = a booming economy. Force the wealthy to either pay higher taxes, or to spend the money. The writeoffs will be made up by the taxes paid on the money as it recirculates in the economy. The stagnant situation due to low taxes is the problem. The cheating of the system by executives structuring their pay packages for more capital gains and less ordinary income will go away when the capital gains tax gets back to comparable levels as ordinary income. Taxes should be lowest on labor, as a percentage of income, and highest on capital gains, not the reverse, as it is now. The US economy worked a lot better when this was the case. And that was during my lifetime.

Solution - tell the unions (which are corporations) to refund the dues money to these employees. After all, the unions are there for the workers, right? Ohhhh. Wrong. In the past 20 years the GOP has filibustered at a rate, on average, 42% more than the Democrats. You both realize that the presence of a cloture vote does not necessarily mean that a filibuster occurred, yes? So what is your figure, then? Don't have one, sorry. In other words, you can't defend your opinion, or dispute the facts. You can't admit that the Republicans are totally in the wrong on this matter, so out comes the RWC talking points, repeated like a good RWC parrot. When does respect for the Constitution and the rule of law come into play, if an RWC? Never, unless it is in favor of the talking points. Moral and ethical hypocrisy is part and parcel of what the RWCs have descended to.
