When does David Vitter get forced to resign from the Senate?
funjumper101 replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
Why wasn't he forced to resign from the House, back in 2007? Hypocrisy, pure and simple. The same goes for John Ensign. David Vitter had a sex scandal that actually involved BREAKING THE LAW. Prostitution is ILLEGAL in Washington, DC. Prostitution is ILLEGAL in Louisiana. So is patronizing prostitutes. Somehow the righteous Right Wing Conservatives didn't bother to run him out of the House the way they are trying to run Weiner out of the House. The voters in Louisiana even promoted the sick fucker David Vitter to Senator. Weiner has yet to break any laws, but the corporate media and the RWCs are all frothing at the mouth to have Weiner resign. Where is the frothing over David Vitters ILLEGAL activities that are a REAL sex scandal? Weiner never physically touched another person. Vitter had repeated instances of perverted intimate contact with prostitutes, which were and are ILLEGAL acts. The stench of Rescumlican and RWC hypocrisy is overwheleming, once again. When do the RWCs plan to start running Vitter out? From Wiki - D.C. MadamIn early July 2007, Vitter's phone number was included in a published list of phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates, a company owned and run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, also known as the "D.C. Madam", convicted by the U.S. government for running a prostitution service. Hustler identified the phone number and contacted Vitter's office to ask about his connection to Palfrey.[18][19] The following day, Vitter issued a written statement: “ This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.[20] ” The statement containing Vitter's apology said his telephone number was included in phone records dating from his days as a member of the House of Representatives.[6] Phone records show that Vitter's number was called by Palfrey's service five times, the first on October 12, 1999, and the last on February 27, 2001.[21] Two calls were placed while House roll call votes were in progress.[22][23] On July 16, 2007, after a week of self-imposed seclusion, Vitter emerged and called a news conference. Standing next to his wife, Vitter asked the public for forgiveness. Following Vitter's remarks, Wendy Vitter, his wife, spoke. Both refused to answer any questions.[24][25][26] As background, several news outlets reported that in May 1999, Vitter replaced Congressman Bob Livingston after Livingston resigned due to an adultery scandal.[1][27][28] Vitter said about Livingston's decision to resign, "It's obviously a tremendous loss for the state. I think Livingston's stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess", referring to Bill Clinton's Monica Lewinsky scandal.[29] Vitter will not face criminal charges due to the statute of limitations.[30] Vitter incurred significant legal and public relations expenses in his efforts to avoid giving testimony in the Palfrey trial and to respond to the ethics complaint. Consequently, his attorneys sought permission from the Federal Election Commission to use campaign funds to pay for these expenses.[31][32] The Commission, along partisan lines, couldn't agree whether funds could be used for reimbursing costs related to the Palfrey trial but did allow them to pay for expenses connected to the Ethics Committee complaint.[33][34][35] [edit] Canal Street MadamOn July 10, 2007, Jeanette Maier, the "Canal Street Madam", alleged that Vitter was a customer on more than one occasion in the 1990s, when Maier was identified by federal prosecutors as operating a $300 per hour brothel.[36] The Times-Picayune reported that "Maier offered no evidence or documents to support her claim."[37] A polygraph (lie detector) test was arranged for a New Orleans prostitute who claimed Vitter hired her and had sexual intercourse with her. The prostitute passed the test.[38] [edit] ReactionWhile the Louisiana state Republican Party offered guarded support,[39] national Republicans offered forgiveness.[40] The Nation predicted that the Republican Party would be in a "forgiving mood", pointing out if Vitter did step down, then Governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, a Democrat, would likely appoint a Democrat to take Vitter's place until a special election took place, thus increasing Democratic control over the Senate.[41][42][43] Republican Senator Sam Brownback told Bloomberg Television on October 5, 2007, that Vitter should be censured by the Senate. He said, "I think you could see something like that taking place. If you look at the actual crime itself and the discussion across the country– and as a Republican– this is bad."[44] In a similar vein when the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal — Spitzer being then governor of New York — hit the headlines, commentators contrasted the end-results: Spitzer resigned while Vitter stayed on.[45][46][47] In response, Jeff Crouere, a New Orleans conservative political commentator, called on Vitter to resign, saying he was an ineffective representative and reflected poorly on the state.[48] Other local political figures differed with Crouere. Democratic political consultant James Carville said the two cases were entirely different: Spitzer's situation developed from an active investigation and as a former prosecutor and governor he had powerful enemies. In contrast, Carville described Vitter as "Louisiana’s junior senator and nobody really knows him or cares that much about him," but concluded that, "if they paid with their own money, I don’t think either one should resign." The Louisiana Republican governor Bobby Jindal said, "Senator Vitter has already addressed this.... The people of New York can deal with the Governor of New York.”[49] Additionally, one gauge of the scandal's impact — local fundraising — indicated that Vitter has weathered the controversy well: first quarter 2008 finance reports show that he made, according to The Times-Picayune, an "impressive haul".[50] Another gauge, voter approval, indicates Vitter is, as of June 2008[update], still popular with Louisiana voters.[51] Following the June 2009 admission of Nevada Senator John Ensign that he had an affair with an employee of his Senate office, the Louisiana Democratic Party called on Senator Vitter to resign his leadership position (as a deputy whip) in the Senate, arguing that because Ensign had resigned his position as Republican Policy Committee Chairman of the United States Senate, Vitter should do the same.[52] -
Why don't you do a bit of research on the filibuster. What is was, what it is supposed to be used for, and how the rules used to be. The rules change allows ONE senator to decide he isn't going to cooperate, and that stops any chance of a bill passing the senate, unless sixty votes can defeat the filibuster. Filibustering used to require that the senator that didn't want to let an "up or down" vote, as in majority rules, had to take the floor and speak of WHY they objected. They, and those that supported their efforts, had to KEEP TALKING, to sustain a filibuster. Once they stopped talking, the filibuster ended. That is how the process used to work. It was fair, and allowed those with objections have all the time needed to state their case and seek support for their position. If they couldn't get support, when the filibuster ended, the up or down vote occurred. 51 votes passed or defeated the bill, and off to conference committee it went. That is no longer the case. The Republicans have violated the system by forcing sixty votes for even the most minor procedures. The republicans have grossly misused the filibuster in the Senate to block essentially ALL of the changes we, the people, voted for in 2008. The bills passed the House, but died in the Senate, due to the gross misuse and abuse of the filibuster. NOTHING got to an up or down vote, as in a majority rules. RWCs pitch a bitch when the "majority rules" is superceded by judicial decisions, yet remain silent when this gross abuse happens. Due to the lack of understanding of basic civics, along with a media system that is owned and operated by and for the Republicans, for the most part, the average citizen does not understand the issues, or the outcome of voting for Republicans. The lack of progess was marketed by the media to be the Democtrat's fault, even though the facts are that it was the Republican misuse of the filibuster that is the real problem. Social Security issues are easy to resolve. Remove the income cap completely, and there are no further issues at all with the system. Fair is fair. Most people pay SS taxes on 100% of their income. Those withhigh incomes pay les and less, the more they make. That is a regressive system that is unfair to the majority of taxpayers. The deficit is growing at a rapid rate due to factors that are easy to explain. 1. The Iraq invasion and occupation, as well as the Afghanistan activities, were kept OFF BUDGET by the Bush Administration. Whe the Obama adminstration took control, these items went back on budget. That in and of itself, cause the deficit to skyrocket. In other words, The Obama adminstration is NOT lying to the citizens about the deficit. 2. The Bush tax cuts were a continuation of the failed Reganomics policies. Tax cuts to the rich do not produce jobs or business expansion in the USA. They make rich people richer amd do nothing for the rest of us. There are no reputable organizations that publish information to the contrary. 3. The gigantic giveaways to Big Pharma in the Medicare Part D bill, passed by nefarious methods, actually OUTLAWS negotiating bulk prices for Medicade drug purchases. The drug companies get fuill retail prices for their products, thanks to the Republicans that pushed this little gem through by cheating. 4. The Bush Tax Cuts were designed to EXPIRE. The republicans have fought tooth and nail to keep them in place. Their concern for the budget deficits does not extend to ending tax cuts that have been paid for by borrowing money from China. They insist that we keep borrowing money to pay for tax cuts. It doesn't make any sense, but that's what they are making happen. 5. The Bush recession and depression forced the government to do a lot of deficit spending to try to jumpstart the economy. These actions have made decent progess towards keeping the economy going, instead of cratering completely. Spending money to make money is one way to describe these policies. There are no reputable organizations that publish information that says these efforts have been a failure. Note that REPUTABLE news sources are mentioned. Faux News, Drudge Report, and NewMax are NOT reputable sources.

During the 2010 election cycle, the Republicans running were very good about following the script. Jobs, jobs, jobs, was supposed to be their main focus, should they happen to be elected to office. Once they managed to fool people into voting them into office, they have focused on social issues such as growing government size and power via excessive regulation of a woman's right to make private medical decisions. They have done NOTHING to promote economic growth. They have worked long and hard to keep failed tax policy in place (the Bush tax cuts). They have failed to re-write Medicare part D to allow for cost reduction via negotiating drug prices. They have put the burden of "defecit reduction" onto the weakest among us, the poor and the elderly. Their latest ideas are to privatize Medicare and Social Security, those evil socialist programs that are so popular among those they serve. Why are the so called lovers of america and democracy standing by and letting the folks they voted into office do that to us?

We are still waiting for your explanation of HOW cutting off "illegal aliens" from banking services would be a good thing, as well as the justification for same. I see your hatred of "illegals", and the desire to harm them as much as possible, as a complete violation of your purported "christian" values. Why do the lawbreakers in the Bible get a pass from you? Jesus and his followers engaged in illegal acts. They did things that were "against the law", as defined by the ruling goverment at the time. So did lots of others, according to the Bible. Why do these folks get a pass from you, while "illegal aliens" here in the USA don't? According to your own writings, illegal is illegal, and there is no excuse for illegality. Is your justification time based, as in, it was a long time ago? Is your justification based on agreeing with the law breakers, from a religious standpoint? What is it, Ron? Surely you can unwind this particularly obvious moral conundrum.

What a marvelous example of "Christian" values. Cutting "illegal immigrants" off from access to banking services is helpful in what way? How does this racist and morally bankrupt way of thinking square with the teachings of true Christainity. You know, help the poor, the downtrodden, the weak and the powerless? False "Christians" spew a load of tripe about god and the bible, then come back with racist crap like this. It would be really amusing to be present when they move on to the afterlife and are held accountable for their hypocrisy and their perversion of "morality". God will administer harsh punishment, in an evenhanded and morally consistent way. Well, that didn't take long to turn it into Christian bashing. Christian values uphold the law of the land. The key word in my position is illegal. According to the government at the time, Jesus and his followers were undermining the rule of law and were performing "illegal" acts in the course of their activities. There are tons of examples in the Bible where the people who are wrtitten about are rebelling against the existing government, IE, performing "illegal" acts. How come those folks get a pass from you? They were "illegals" in the context of the ruling powers of the times. It used to be "illegal" and "Against God's Laws" to have white people marry people of other races. You can't see the obvious conflict between your purported "values" and what you really think? God must really have a thing for moral blindness.

The Democrats peaked at 58. Which for the math challenged, is 2 less than 60. Rescumlicans totally abused the filibuster process and deliberately fucked up the current administration's agenda. In a sleazy and unethical way. Not that they and their supporters actually give a shit about ethics or morality. Then they used the lack of progess and change (prevented by their sleazy and unethical tactics) to convince the low information voters that somehow the lack of progess was the Democrats fault. This caused the sheeple to vote in nutters from the Tea Party that don't understand the Constitution, or even basic civicis. They voted in a majority in the House, by spewing total bullshit that was reported as fact by the corporate media. The corporate media makes an idiot like Ryan out to be a hero with his "budget" that is a load of bullshit, with numbers pulled directly from Heritage Foundation spew. Numbers that have zero basis in reality. The dumb fucks in the House passed the Ryan crap as though there was some actual value to it. The worthless fucks passed the bill without reading it, or analyzing the numbers in any way. Every single Rescumlican voted for it. It was and is a worthless plan, as the numbers are easily proven to be fictitious. Not that truth and honesty have any value to those kind of people. All it does is give MORE tax breaks to the extremely wealthy, paid for by the poor and elderly. -
Gullible RWCs jump on the bandwagon as some nutter says something that is FALSE!!! Are you all too stupid to do any fact checking? That would be a YES, YES Indeed!!! I don't care to check the veracity of a statement that completely fits with my fucked up world view. I'll just post it on an Interent forum

Have you ever heard of Medicare Part D? Passed by ShrubCo and the Rescumlicans by taking a 15 minute vote in the middle of the night, and extending the voting period to several HOURS so that the sensible republicans who voted against it could be pressured into voting for it. This would be the TRILLION dollar giveaway to the pharmaceutical industry. You know, the one that makes ILLEGAL negotiating bulk prices for drugs purchased by the Federal Government. The party of Big Business implements what clearly is against all normal business practices (negotiating prices based on bulk purchases), thus CAUSING a good part of the huge budget deficits that are now of such GREAT concern to folks like you. You didn't give a rat's ass about the budget deficits while ShrubCo was running the country. Now all of a sudden you do. Can you spell hypocrite? Do you know what the definition is? Google is your friend. Here is Wikipedia's criticism of the GIVEAWAY program implemented by your heroes. - By the design of the program, the federal government is not permitted to negotiate prices of drugs with the drug companies, as federal agencies do in other programs. The Department of Veterans Affairs, which is allowed to negotiate drug prices and establish a formulary, pays 58% less for drugs, on average, than Medicare Part D.[25] For example, Medicare pays $785 for a year's supply of Lipitor (atorvastatin), while the VA pays $520. I am sure that you are really proud that we, the people, had such a GREAT law implmented on our behalf. Me, and anyone with a remote clue, does not think that this was a good idea. It takes an extreme moron to believe that previous administrations have nothing to do with a current administration's budgeting issues. When 3 trillion dollars of WAR expenses are kept off budget, and the shit for brains RWCs stand by and let it happen, you lose all rights to bitch about the deficits. When massive giveaways of federal dollars were created, you folks were silent. Have you no shame? HAVE YOU NO SHAME??? -

Can any of the RWCs comment on the results of ShrubCo's budget lies and how that has affected the current administration's budgets? 30 views and four votes. I guess the RWCs are hard at work, trying to find a site somewhere that doesn't tell the truth about the ShrubCo's lies. And the results of those lies. -

Understanding sarcasm requires a modicum of intelligence. That explains why you don't understand the post you refer to. LOL oh the irony of this post! I threw out the bait and you swallowed it, hook line and sinker. Crank, crank, I'm tightening the drag, I've got a live one on the hook!!! -
Here are the FACTS, Marc. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp Why do you and your kind live in fantasyland? Why can't you concede the fact that you have been totally and completely fooled by the information sources you choose? Pretending that a "Certificate of live birth" is not a "Birth Certificate" is asinine. As in "extremely or utterly foolish." At this point the only people who think that there is any question as to the facts of the matter are complete morons. At least you have made clear where you stand.

I hope he has his transcripts to prove it! Wouldnt matter would it? I mean to hard core lefties like you, anyone you disagree with is stupid or uneducated So, in cases where you disagree with someone nearly all the time, why would you even care? The connection between intelligence and education is not clear to you? The fact that RWCs are clearly stupid is blindingly obvious to those of us that smart and have some education. In some ways, it would be a lot easier to be an ignorant dumbass. Then the ignorant dumbasses ruining the country I love wouldn't piss me off so much. I would be voting for them as I would be too stupid to vote for what is best for the country. -

Defend? There are reasons to believe what they believe I dont agree but more importantly I dont care But to respond to you? Why? Utterly stupid posts do not require responding too Now, leave us along while we pick the next party canidates You laugh, yet can't come up with a damn thing to explain the utter stupidity of your fellow citizens. What FACTUAL reasons for the birther nonsense exist? Was Hawaii not a US state when Obama was born? Does Obama's team have the ability to travel back in time to put birth announcements in the Honolulu newspaper? Do idiots who do not understand what a birth certificate is, and what is a legal copy of same, really have that much credibility in the Republican party? I know that blithering ignorance is a family value for the Republicans, but how much proof is required for the birther nonsense to go away? Why don't "responsible" Republicans like yourself work to put a stop to the nonsense? You all think that "responsible" Muslims should put a stop to the extremist Muslims. Why don't you do the same in your ranks? Morals and ethics are very foreign concepts to Republican's these days. John Kyl just got a promotion in the Senate. Right after the revelation that his outright lies about Planned Parenthood were exposed, with a defense that they were not intended to be factual statements. How is spotlighting the facts about the Iowa Republican Partys utter stupidity, stupid? Explain. Leave us along? What does that mean? Canidate? What's that?

So you're saying you don't trust Columbia in the 1980's, following a long-established process? Wendy P. No I dont trust anything that has political attachments Including colleges If and when the GPA records are released we will know Until then we dont Them colleges are WICKED scary when you have never been near one. Those folks at them places actually work hard to learn and understand stuff. That goes against EVERYTHING that makes someone a good citizen. You simply cant be questioning anything you see or hear on Faux news, read on Newsmax and Breitbart, or Lush Rimjob's website. Those are some real nice down home kinda folks that just don't lie. Never... And they have no political agenda at all. None. Totally non-partisan. I got a bridge in New York City that I'll sell you, real cheap. PM me for deatils. -
Using RIT fabric dye to make toilet paper rolls close to the same color as the canopy fabric takes time to complete. The wet rolls take a while to dry. Getting the color right can be a challenge. Then you pack as many strips as you can get into the folds on the top skin of the canopy. At deployment, the TP makes it look like the canopy blew up, while it flys just fine. In the old days when people had white top skins to light up the colors of the canopy, this trick took much less planning and work.

That would be due to your complete disconnect with the "Christian" principles you write that you believe in, as opposed to what principles your writings actually show. Your willingness to treat gay people as less deserving of equal rights, and civil rights, is WRONG, no matter how you rationalize it to yourself. As has been pointed out before, the Bible contains a lot of detail about how to act and how to think. The parts about how to treat slaves, how to sell your children into bondage (slavery), and many other parts are totally ignored these days. You so called "Christians" pick and choose which parts apply these days, and which parts don't. 65 years ago you would have been against ending the Jim Crow laws, based upon your Bible. 150 years ago, you would likey have been for continuing slavery. I despise hypocrites. Especially the "Christian" kind. They are really creepy. FWIW, I have met you in person and interacted with you on more than one occasion. You are kind of creepy and make me uncomfortable. The eyes give it away. I suspect that your hatred of gay people is due to those urges you feel yourself, generating severe inner conflict as you resist those urges God gave you. God does not make junk. God makes gay people gay, biologically. I think that folks that pretend to follow God's teachings, while doing much the opposite of his true values, will be paying a heavy price when they meet their maker. -
I have seen you use this 'perfesser' language several times. It's a cheap shot and it makes you look small every time you use it. that's because he is very small (and very ignorant as he can't spell his own language) Extreme ignorance, strong opinions with no basis in reality, and zero comprehension of morals and ethics = a Right Wing Conservative No conception of right and wrong, no undertstanding of history, and feels NO SHAME ofr the ignorance. More accurately, Riech Wing Conservative. And damn proud of it. Scary, isn't it.

I am really impressed with the blithering ignorance of the folks in Iowa. How did they become so unbelieveably IGNORANT? The level of igorance and the willful denial of the FACTS are a testament to the disinformation campaign waged by the corporate owned right wing media. It would be humorous, if these useless racist assholes didn't actually vote in elections. How come they don't go after McCain, who actually WAS NOT born in the USA? Racist motherfuckers!!! Begin quoted text>>> Donald Trump’s birther crusade could be a boon in Iowa, and “Romneycare” could dog the former Massachusetts governor in the first-in-the-nation caucus, a new poll shows. A whopping 48 percent of Iowa Republicans said they don’t believe that Obama was born in the United States, according to the automated survey by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling out Tuesday. Another 26 percent said they weren’t sure whether or not the president was born in America as the Constitution requires to be eligible to serve in the nation’s highest office. Trump has driven the “birther” issue into the national spotlight as he flirts with an entry into the White House race, placing at the front of the pack in several national polls. In Iowa, Trump comes in third with 14 percent of the vote, just two points behind Mitt Romney with 16 percent. Mike Huckabee is currently leading in the state, with 27 percent support from Iowa Republicans. While Romney is polling second in the Hawkeye state, the poll also points to a potential pothole in the road for him: 63 percent of Iowa GOPers say supporting a state-level health insurance mandate is a disqualifier. Only 11 percent say they’d be willing to vote for someone who backed a state-level bill mandating that voters have health insurance, as Romney did in Massachusetts. If Huckabee and Trump opt out of the contest, Romney leads with 25 percent of the vote, leaving second place a statistical dead heat between Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and Ron Paul. Tuesday’s poll of 419 Iowa Republicans was conducted April 15-17 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.

What a load of crap. No shock there, when your "information" sources are Faux news, Newmax, Breitbart, et al. It seems that the terrible economy and the ever downward spiral of wages and benefits has never pentrated the conciousness of some RWCs. Did it ever occur to you that the average wage, in real dollars, has been going DOWN, really fast, when measured in inflation adjusted terms? Increased deductions and decreased wages = less or no taxes paid. You must be really bummed out that there are less and less people who can cover the excessive tax cuts granted to the extremely wealthy, thus causing the "budget crisis" the Rescums are all worked up about. How come you useless RWCs don't take into account that ShrubCo fooled you all by keeping the Iraq invasion and occupation, and the Afghanistan war OFF THE BOOKS for budgeting purposes. Obama did the FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE thing by putting them BACK ON BUDGET. Taxes need to be RAISED on the same folks that got huge TEMPORARY tax breaks during a time of war, and thus helped ruin the economy. Economics 101, to anyone with even a glimmering of understanding of fiscal policy. You assholes talk about love of country and fiscal responsibility, but you have zero clue as to what that really means. When it actually starts to happen, you can't recognize it. The Shrub tax cuts WERE NOT PAID FOR!!! The Iraq Invasion/occupation WAS NOT PAID FOR!!! The Afghanistan war WAS NOT PAID FOR!!! Are you all really idiots, or does it just seem that way? If you start choose to go to war, it has to be paid for. Fooling nitwits by keeping the true costs hidden, while DECREASING revenue, has put us where we are today. It isn't Obama's fault the budget is FUCKED!! It is the fault of the politicians who made it happen, and the RWCs that support them, no matter how bad their policies are for the country. It is time to suck it up and start supporting the end of the ShrubCo tax cuts. It is time to start taxing corporations fairly and equitably. No more giveaways to the Oil companies and the factory farms. Revenue MUST go up, as well as major cuts in DEFENSE Spending. That is the right way to go. Not slashing large slices from a very tiny part of the pie, therby punishing the elderly and the poor, to the benfit of the wealthy. The money is there. The Rescums and the Dems are owned, lock stock and barrel, by the folks with the money. And they are fucking us over completely, aided and abetted by the dumb ass, easily led RWCs. The real patriots in the USA need to rise up and take this country back, for real. We need to get the Fairness doctrine back in place to even out the playing field. Ownership of media outlets must be spread out among many companies, not concentrated in the hands of a few. Go read the book "Amusing ourselves TO DEATH" by Neil Postman. Called the future perfectly. Then move on to "Perfectly Legal" by David Cay Johnston. A cogent explanation of the tax code. Challenging reading for RWCs. The concepts aren't complicated. Your beliefs WILL be challenged.
