  1. It's not the same guy... The real Perry www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. I'm pretty sure they use a monofin for this subsurfing. I think jumping with regular (i.e. "short") fins has been done. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. There's a cool new sport being developed by a few people around the world that combines elements of freediving, surfing, bodysurfing, and swimming. It's called subsurfing and is basically surfing the way that dolphins do - inside the wave. I found this cool picture on a freediving website of someone subsurfing (Laird Hamilton, I think). Does anybody else think his body position looks remarkably like a good track? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. I tried to get in on a raft dive this weekend. After the exit zooed, everybody started to form a round. I was way too high and tried to assume some sort of body position that would let me sink faster, and I shit you not, when I pulled my legs in to where I thought they needed to be, I actually did a backflip out of nowhere. I found my boxman again and was on level with the formation, and did something that must have seemed weird to an RW guy - turned 90 degrees and started side-sliding toward the formation - from about 50 yards away! As I got close I tried to put on my sideslide brakes, and as logic would have it, they simply didn't work without wings. I slid right past the whole damn formation and watched it disappear in the other direction. I repeated this about 3 times - approaching the formation from different directions, with different headings, and every time failed to find my brakes, or to find them at the right time. I was like a really bad driver's ed student. By then it was time to breakoff, so I turned and tracked like hell (managed to actually look like I knew what I was doing here), landed and promptly put my wingsuit back on. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Custom built for me. Fits great as far as I can tell. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. I didn't change the tabs. Also, I have had my goatee for years and when I met you was the one week out of all those years I had shaved it off as an experiment (which Scott Bland would not stop ridiculing me about). I grew it back right away, so it's not new, just new to you. And you can keep your razor, we all like your legs to stay smooth... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Yes, and in all those other industries (and in our own, in other brand names besides BM), product release dates are pushed back more than once. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. I have over 100 jumps on my S3 and something started happening this weekend that's NEVER happened before. While boarding the plane, Perry pointed out to me that the rear arm cables were unthreaded all the way down to the laterals (~6 tabs or so since I skip 3rd wing tab from the top). I had somebody lace me back up and went on with my jump. Through the weekend, this happened consistently probably 10 times. I would check the cables multiple times on the plane, all the way up to right before exit (I can reach my hand under my armpit and feel the cables myself - I also had other birds looking on each jump)... and it was always good right before the jump, but as soon as I was under canopy, I would feel back there and could feel they had come out again. The cables are NOT too short, they fill up the keepers all the way, and as I said before this has never happened in 100 jumps on the suit. It is obviously happening in freefall or on deployment. We toyed with the idea of having another tight flocker fly over my back and check it out in flight (to see if it happens before deployment), but our flocks were so fun and technical, nobody wanted to leave their slot just to check out my back. There are 3 variables that I can think of that were different this weekend (compared to my normal jumping), and none of them should have any bearing on it, as far as I can tell, but I'll mention them anyway since it's all I have. 1. VERY hot and humid. Scott suggested the materials were more sticky and reacted to my body inputs and deployment forces differently. 2. Different airplane - Casa. There is no way this has anything to do with it. We did some high speed passes, but it was also happening on normal exits. 3. I was wearing surf baggies instead of the normal shorts/boxers I wear under the suit, because it was so HOT. These were a lot less bulky and consequently left the legs straps a lot looser. As soon as I thought of this, I started tightening the leg straps and the chest strap a lot, eventually even tighter than I was used to... but this did not stop the cables from coming out. Doesn't seem to be a safety issue but is damn annoying. Part of me thinks I'll go back to my normal DZ this weekend and it won't happen anymore, and I'll be forever left with an unsolved mystery. So weird it happened almost every jump this whole boogie... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Nice, I have never been told that before! You are shit too bro. You left 6 beers in my cooler, but I promise I'll find them a good home. Thanks to everyone else for the congratulations... I'll second what Ellis had to say about Scott's professionalism, and equally important, his passion for the sport and the safety of its participants. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Thanks guys for the great flocks and thanks again Scott for the instruction. NO thanks to the weather gods for sweating my ass off every day. But we still had a great time on and off the ground. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

  12. Read this news item thoroughly... Still doesn't explain much, but it does answer the "who" question, and makes Ed seem a little less crazy. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. There have been many over the years... BMX, surfing, freediving, climbing. Climbing is probably the one I do most often right now. I wish I could freedive more, and that more people were into it. I want to get into kitesurfing too. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. What video did he show... was it the one with Crystal Method? Or is it one you haven't posted online yet Omar? I wanted to tell you, that I was in the gym the other night and I heard that song playing (Get Busy Child) and through the whole thing I was picturing your video playing in my head. P.S. Katee did you make a birdy jump yet? Cya guys tomorrow! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. No, I was going to, but I thought the magical magazine writing fairies did that? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Does anyone who gets Skydiving Magazine know if they covered the event? I only get Parachutist and was disappointed to see they never covered it. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. It would obviously have to be a pretty borderline scenario, but I'm curious if exhaling long and hard will increase risk (who knows if it's significant) of hypoxia. Just something to think about. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. As you obviously know, you can get much closer than 5 feet, it just requires you scooting progressively further forward, so that if you get down to say, 18 inches above the bird below you, you are now at least 3 feet forward from your previous position of directly above him, your leg wing is over his head (you're looking back at the top of his head rather than down at the back of it). I'm known at Zhills for getting as close as possible, and when trying to close those last several inches, not scooting forward enough sometimes. There's a very distinct and funny feeling that starts at your feet when you realize "oh yes, that's the burble that my feet, I mean knees now, I mean hips now are feeling" as you get sucked back and down into it. Like a Hoover vacuum. :) Then comes the collision and the faceplant into the other bird's ass. All fun stuff really. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. Nope, I've heard you lose the ability to see anything above 5000ft. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. I was gonna say the exact same thing... unless I'm sponsored (and getting flow from the sponsoring brand), I don't care what brand I'm flying!
  21. You're a wild man, Bill. I'm starting to feel closer to BASE myself. In terms of skills/readiness at least. There's still that whole part where the $$ is necessary for a rig, but I guess that's not a lot compared to skyjumping. Still not gonna rush it yet. But soon. How do you like your V1? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. How does Valsalva keep you from passing out? I only know what the word means from freediving. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. Nice Simpsons ref, congrats. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. Shit happens? Would be just as bad if you ever "can't breathe or whatever" when you're driving your car down the interstate. I agree it would not be good. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  25. I read this article on Fark yesterday... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
