  1. Stupidity does kill. And, certainly the longer time you spend in the sport, the more you understand risk. Of course, for some it takes longer than others, but it just sucks that because a couple of guys want to load a canopy they are not ready for extremely high, those that can competently set our their limits (which may not fall within the restrictions, but they are not completely radical) have to pay with tight restrictions. I guess I just never really liked rules I trust my own judgement. Angela.
  2. That's true. You need to be able to flare evenly to fly an elliptical. And, certainly need to pay more attention at pull time as well. But, these are not things that are impossible for anyone with less than 300 jumps, either. Well, not everyone needs governing, although it is indeed evident that there are a small portion who do. But, to cut off the nose and spite the face may not be the way to go about this. Stiff regulations will suck for everyone, not just the few that might kill themselves under a challenging wing they are not ready for, (who might do so under a wing that falls within the guidelines anyhow). Angela.
  3. And had line twists that didn't clear till 900 feet and ended up not being able to set up for a good landing and ended up landing near a plane that prompted you to get kicked off a DZ? That easy to fly elliptical? Calm down, Genius. I had line twists at 20~ jumps on a Sabre II 150. I was kicked off a completely different dz than that one due to the fact that they didn't want me jumping an elliptical at 44 jumps. I'm not really sure why I bother replying to you. You don't take anything that I have to say into account, you just try to slam people who don't follow Ron's rules. Later. Angela.
  4. Honestly, I think that this goes a little bit too far. I've not flown a xbraced canopy, so I don't know how they perform and they may indeed be quite a difference... but, ime, ellipticals are not the death traps they are made out to be for low-timers who take the initiative to get canopy training (at low wingloading). Once you get used to the controls, it becomes second nature. You know where your flare is, how much toggle it takes to turn, etc. I got a Stiletto loaded very lightly (
  5. SD Sebastian has done (probably still does) this. Quite fun to watch the kickass swoopers come in at 50+mph and come within 15 or so feet of the beer. Angela.
  6. I don't know. I remember seeing some full page ads for SOBE in parachutist and they seemed to do a pretty good job at hosting an event pretty much every other month. I think SOBE going under had more to do with money issues up north than those at the DZ itself. They had one successful boogie that absolutely rocked!! The other one they barely announced in advance and the helicopter didn't come through either. :( It was no where near the success of the first one which was really well planned, inviting big names like Birdman, PD, etc out which certainly draws a crowd. Aside from the full page ad, do you think there could have been other ways to advertise? I'm not in advertising, but not many potential tandem students pick up Parachutist and students bring $$ in, experienced divers that are not dz loyal are not the bread & butter I wouldn't think. I know there is 1800skydive, but are there other methods? I definitely think it can work, I just don't think that enough effort was made before shop was closed. And, I would think that when you open you'd want to charge the same rate for tandems as the dz next door, but they charged much more and called it a discount. I really wanted to advertise/try to bring folks in, but I actually felt bad that they'd get a better deal pretty much anywhere in the state (I don't know about Miami, but Clewiston charges less and even Sebastian charges less.) Not trying to step on any toes here, but these are my thoughts. I definitely loved the dz, it rocked while it was open!! Angela.
  7. I've seen her interviewed a couple of times and I must say that she doesn't appear to be the sharpest tool in the shed. My co-worker mentioned that Demi got Ashton, but Demi seems to have a good head on her shoulders, so I don't think there is a comparison. jmo Angela.
  8. My biggest gripe is that my medical insurance pays for 7$ toward my birth control which costs 43$/mo. However, if I were to get pregnant, they'd cover the tens of thousand dollars it'd take for me to deliver a child + the child's healthcare for 21 years. I think this is pretty stupid. It would make much more sense for the government to pay a large portion of the costs of birth control since it would likely cut down on welfare and med ins costs. Other than that, though.. i've gotten a LOT more $$ out of my insurance policy than i've put in, so i'm not complaining too much. Angela.
  9. For me it was: -Price (got it used for a good deal) -Size (fit me and fit the sized canopies I wanted it to fit) -Looks (the rig wasn't ugly, which was important, but i'd go so far as to say I really liked the look of it!) - Popular brand (Javelin) so proven reliable. No regrets, the rig has treated me well and Javelin's can fit several sized mains pretty nicely, too, so downsizing has not been a problem for me. Angela.
  10. Absolutely!! Now, if you purposely drank that bottle, then that's a different story! Angela.
  11. Hey, Rosa... Would that be the "Jump for the Casts" event? crwmike wrote: lol!! Angela.
  12. Sweeet!!! He's gonna make a kickass engineer... Angela.
  13. Wendy, Clewiston charges a good deal less for tandems than SoBe did I think. And SoBe also failed to advertise like they should have. Just some thoughts. Angela.
  14. This is interesting. I have never gone backwards under canopy, but I was never spoken to about what should be done if that happened, either, so basically, I may be unprepared for it. Of course, at this point, my wind limit is lower than the actual amount of wind it would take to blow me backward... but, I have heard horror stories of winds increasing by a large margin in a short time, so it would still be nice to hear everyone's ideas of what should be done if you are landing backward. I guess I always just assumed flare lightly and be prepared to roll... i'm interested to see the "real" procedures. Good post, Jan! Angela.
  15. Traveled to San Diego and back to Florida with mine and my boyfriend's rigs packed and checked. The security personnel actually opened our bag to check out cables that we had in there, but didn't say anything about the rigs. We had no problem coming back from San Diego, either. Angela.
  16. Single Operation System, where just one handle both releases the main parachute and opens the reserve, hopefully in that order. it's very common setup for students, and works quite well, but it does have a disadvantage or two. Thanks, John. I'll do a search for more info. Angela.
  17. Your came a full line after the "joke" about him being a "homo" -- and that line was edited on. That line was not associated with, and did not come at the same time as, the You could be a lot clearer in making your gay jokes more identifiable as jokes. As it is, they're not funny, because they fall into that category of "gay people would scream if straight people cracked the same joke." It's rather like when black people call each other "nigger." It's prone to making white people say, "Hey, what the fuck -- either it's a bad word or it's not!" - As a woman, some of your posts happen to offend me, Jefrey. Probably never would've pointed it out, but after seeing how critical you are of this type of stuff, I thought you should know. I think you're a nice guy having met you, but when you reply to Rosa who was posting seriously about her latin heritage and how she feels liberated by being a skydiver with a comment like "I'm glad you're a skydiver and I'm glad you're female. 'Nuff said. " ... it makes me wonder if you have any sensitivity at all. That is not the only post i've personally taken offense to, just the most recent.... usually i'll keep my mouth shut. jmo. Angela.
  18. It made me laugh, Keith Course, might be cuz I knew you were gay, tho. If I hadn't, I probably would'nt have taken offense, but might not have found it as funny Was that PC? Can I call you gay, or should I call you non-heterosexual? I'm so confused. Time to go home now Angela.
  19. Wow, dude, it's a Sabre, not a Vengeance. Is there something about the H mod I don't know about? Far as I knew, Sabre's are one of the safest newbie canopies. Were these jumpers like 200+lbs or something? To each his/her own. Do what you're comfortable with. Angela.
  20. Excuse my ignorance here, but what is an SOS? Thx. Angela.
  21. Really???? Wow, i'm behind the times! Can someone clear this up for me?? If this person is referring to an rsl, he/she is really misleading people! Sounds almost like you can't go wrong, hell, if one malfunctions, the emergency unit just saves your ass, huh? lol!! "There’s an accelerator and a braking system to assist in landing." No shit?? HP maneuvers and toggles/rears? Or are they just referring to trim and toggles rather than a round/unsteerable? Angela.
  22. ok, then, here's my list... Needs to be witty and turn me on enough for the rest not to matter Of course, I've already got one, so my list has been met sorry if I offended anyone before, I was just giving my opinion and sometimes it does that. Angela.
  23. Aren't they required to only write what Bush can read and pronounce? I'm confused as to why you'd feel any less insulted, really. (ok, enough useless babble for one thread, now you can all comment on how it makes it right for us to commit war crimes because others have done it. Because isn't that what this country is all about, anyhow... revenge? An eye for an eye, right? ... ok, i'm done). angela.
  24. 22, but i've been through my share of relationships, been engaged and unengaged, etc. I understand red flags, but I think that you really need to take people as individuals. Your Mr. Right might not meet all of your requirments, or even half of them. Just saying, try to keep it open:) I could easily say I don't like it when men are into silly sci-fi movies, watch tv, keep a cluttered up house, etc... but, hell, I didn't make up a list so I ended up with a wonderful guy with those traits. But, his greatness in other areas more than makes those things easy to overlook:D So, if he doesn't get along well with his mom, maybe she's a nutty u-know-what. If he doesn't get along with his ex-girlfriends, maybe he has a track record of picking girls that don't take breakups well. And, don't you have an addictive personality yourself? hehe. You ARE an adrenaline junkie, are you not?? I am not trying to be insulting, I am sorry if you took the post offensively. I am just saying that you can't make love fit a mold. You never know what you're gonna get, but if you keep an open mind, it may be someone you didn't expect to love on your list... maybe even a non-religious person! Angela.
