Landing Area Collision Accident
SkydiveNFlorida replied to slug's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If a pilot with low jump #s does not have the confidence to make small adjustments under their wing they should UPSIZE!! That way, they will maybe gain confidence, and if nothing else, if/when they strick an object/person/whatnot it will be at a slow speed. The jumper in question here was loading at 1.4 with 300 skydives over 8 years time! Unless he gained most of those in the past 2 years or less, he probably wasn't current enough to be jumping his canopy safely anyhow, and, he also decided not to pay attention to where he was going on FINAL approach! It is always important to watch where you're landing. Also, If he had time to brace himself by picking up his legs before kneeing the other guy in the back, then imo he had time enough to harness turn, or toggle turn and plf. He should know that at that speed it will hurt/injure to hit something/ someone. Jumper #2 is at fault imo. Angela. -
haha! I like this list the best so far. I didn't know people really sat around while single writing lists of expectations for their next relationship.... no offense, but maybe that's why you're single? Good luck finding Mr. (in your eyes) Perfect, because as far as I know there is no such thing. Try simplifying it a bit, a few qualities you look for is one thing, a comprehensive list that excludes most of the population is another. I hope this isn't taken too harshly, jmho. Angela.

Perris Valley Skydiving or Skydive Elsinore
SkydiveNFlorida replied to bluewaterstream's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Personally, as a visitor, both dzs were nice, but if I had to choose one it'd probably be Elsinore. The people were friendly at both dzs, and I had a great time at both, but it was much more personal an atmosphere at Elsinore and think that rocks! I finished up my C license requirements there with Mark who was the absolute coolest guy. And, at the end of the day, there was a small group of employees and visitors who were very cool to chill with. There was really no feeling of exclusion, very cool place!! But, if you want a swimming pool (for whatever reason?), Perris has that and a large restaurant/bar area. I would compare Perris/Elsinore to Deland and Pahokee (when it is opened). Pahokee just has a vibe that is hard to find elsewhere and it will always be my favorite dz. But, Deland is a mecca and there is something to be said for that as well. It is all in what you're looking for. Angela . -
Only a worldwide survey could help determine this. Everyone's level of tolerance toward discrimination is different... just like everyone's idea of discrimination is different. I would say, in many/most cases, that yes, people perceive discrimination much differently depending on who is being singled out. Hence this thread by crwmike which obviously showed us that the difference between white-only and women in this particular case is huge. Thing is, if it were black-only, or other-skydiving-minority only, maybe a few would complain, but most would likely accept it as bonding due to the small number of participants it would draw out of the whole. Myself, I would have no problem with a black-only skydive being organized because I think i've personally seen one black person skydive, and it was tandem, so it could certainly be accepted that they want to attempt to meet up and do a skydive. But, lets face it, most skydives are white-only, and more particularly, white men only, because the majority in this sport are white men. But, my answer to your question is I can't speak for everyone. Angela.

Furthermore, I wonder how many people go through this trouble with selling containers. Containers are obviously meant to hold certain sized reserves and mains, and not only can one be unqualified to jump a certain sized main, but what about those who are very experienced but heavy and would overload the reserve that would fit in the container? I'm sure that is rarely, if ever, taken into account. At some point people need to be held accountable for themselves. What about selling weights, a weight belt that holds 20 pounds can add signifigantly to someone's w/l, do you interview people about how many jumps they have under their canopy before selling them weights? Accountablilty, people!! It's on you. There are not enough volunteer babysitters in skydiving to keep everyone in check... (and many don't want to be babysat), that is the point i'm really trying to make here. Angela.

I disagree. Try a stupid move w/ a Sabre 230, then try the exact same stupid move with my old VX-60. Let me know how it turns out. I think you'll find a significant difference. Derek ok, so, at some point, there are signifigant differences. Still, I think that everyone needs to hold themselves accountable. Holding someone accountable for selling someone a canopy is probably ridiculous in many situations. Now, selling your 60sf canopy is probably a little different than selling a 136 being there are faaaar fewer people even nearly qualified to fly the 60sf canopy. Angela.

IMO, no they are not. If one knows a person to be unqualified for a particular canopy, and knows they are putting them in harms way (ie, selling a XAOS to someone with 50 jumps), then that is one thing... but, reasonably speaking, if a person is looking to buy a canopy, then they must know that their dz will allow them to jump it, and in that case, who am I to not sell it to them? I am getting ready to sell a canopy, and i'm not calling anyone's dz or mommy to ask if they're ready to buy it, either. If I don't know their background, I will make them aware of the canopy's twitchiness and diving ability, but that's it. We're all adults here. And, in the end, if they buy the canopy and their dz won't let them jump it, it isn't my problem. Nor is it my problem if their dz is ok with it and they decide to pull a stupid move under it. Furthermore, stupid moves can be performed under any canopy with many results being close to the same, so even if you interview someone and they are seemingly ready for the canopy, shit can still go wrong. 10 jumps or 1000 jumps, people still break bones, sprain things, and even die. But, of course, if I _know_ that someone is flying a 170 square, i'd be likely to question their motives for buying. jmo, tho... and everyone's will vary. Angela.

Good point. I think many dz's offer discounted jumps to current and ex-military on Veterans Day and/or Memorial Day. Go see the recruiter now. I'm thinking that the 6-week basic training is better for Fathers Day than Veterans Day. lol!!

I suppose it is settled that each in his own way is a "bad person"... at least lying about blow jobs doesn't put anyone's life in danger.... driving drunk sure as hell does!! I suppose it'd be different if he'd hit someone while driving drunk, huh?? I don't see it any differently, it is just as wrong to drive a vehicle that can be deadly in a state in which your control is limited as it is to actually hit someone with your vehicle while drunk. Committing perjury by lying about getting a blow job is wrong. Driving drunk is, imo, even more wrong. Angela.

PM sent. This thread is not my own and my position has been explained in my previous thread. I have answered your particular question in a pm to you, but it is not appropriate here because it has been well discussed, the thread was locked and I don't want to get this one locked. :) Angela.

I agree with this statement. I go into the Women's forum now only very occassionally, because I personally am not very interested in a lot of the things that are posted there (pink mafia this, silicon implants that)... but, I don't think that it is a terrible thing that a few women want to get together and have a bonding jump. I'm not really the type to do a female bonding jump, but i'm not really against those who are. I happen to like jumping with guys and girls just the same, but I still see no more harm in this seperation than in the all-metal jumps, or all-deaf jumps, or all-fill-in-the-blank jumps. If people feel they need/get empowerment through jumping with those they feel they have more in common with, it is ok with me. I saw some references to the thread I started a while back about females being subsidized for jumps, and I don't think that this is on the same level as that because there are many other all-fill-in-the-blank jumps due to those seeking acceptance/bonding/whatever... whereas charging less for jumps for a group is discriminating to all who aren't in the group, and is demeaning to those who are in the group because it says they can't afford jumps, or whatnot. So, in conclusion, while I didn't read the post in the women's forum because it did not interest me personally, I do not have a problem with women bonding with one another on a skydive that they don't get to do everyday. Well worth the 23 year wait
SkydiveNFlorida replied to jimmytavino's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Major cool! :D I'm happy for both of you, that's a sweet story:) Looks like you both had fun! Rock on!! Angela. -
I have the same gripes, I was also wondering if the 'average' speed included 12000 and 3000, maybe they can change that?. I am glad i'm not the only one with messed up ff times, either. I had a h&p where I actually exited about 5500 and deployed at about 4200 what it logged was entirely different, actually logged deployment altitude above exit altitude (impossible obviously), really odd. I hope that the logging is really fixed on the new version. What version do you have, btw? I haven't used it as an audible, but I really like it as a visual! Angela.

Geez, with a title like that I thought she had really hurt herself and was in critical condition or something!! I understand moving something over, but was anyone else freaked out? BTW, heal well, Alana... I can tell you from experience to let that baby heal before going back to sports. BUT, if you do go back to sports and you have a chronic sprain, try prolotherapy, it works like a dream! Angela.

Could not have said it better......... next you will be saying all Irish are thick, all americans are fat and loud, all UK are posh, all blacks are criminals, and all germans are nazis........... WTF? - just another example of the sydivers self perception of being special.......... load of shite.... Speaking of those in a sport as a group and speaking of those in a country as a group are two different things. Now, if you had said that skydivers are xxxx, swimmers are yyyy, and gymnasts are zzzz, then your comparison would've worked a little better:) Hmm, I think my sex drive really did increase after I started skydiving... wait, tho, I don't know if it was due to skydivingsince I started dating a sexy, super awesome guy shortly after. Too many variables changed at once, I don't think my chem professor would approve. >>> Seriously, tho>>> Lighten up, people. I don't think Jeff meant any harm in his original post. I have to wonder why it was taken so offensively. It seems that any post on this forum can be turned into a pissing contest in the blink of an eye. Piss the other way people, don't join in!! Madness I tell you, MADNESS!! Angela (exeunt as she runs screaming from the forum)

Big Air Sportz dealer discounts?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi, Lisa.. so, is list 1499 or 1999$? Looks like 1999$ on the website, I assume the 1499$ thing was a deal that was limited time? 20% off of 1999 would give a price of about 1600$ which is higher than the 1499$. I guess the best time to order was last year, huh? :p Thanks:) angela. -
Personally, for logging info, I like the Protrack better. I think you have to push too many buttons on the neptune to get the info I want from the last few jumps. I also have found my neptune to be off in its logging several times. I have version 2.025, I think they have an update out but I am too lazy to update it again right now. So, for now, i'm just using the protrack for logging my jumps and not worrying about it. Now, for a visual altimeter, I really love the Neptune and would recommend it to anyone who needs accurate info for their landings. Accurate to 10 feet! :D Angela.

Big Air Sportz dealer discounts?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I thought i'd read something on here a while back about being able to get discounts on big air canopies though dealers. Where can the post be found? And, is there a listing of dealers somewhere? Anyone know what the savings are? I also did a search and saw something about price reduction to 1499$, but on the Big Air Sportz website it says 1999$ retail. Any clarification or links would be helpful. thx. -
If you have a tape measurer and a friend, you can measure the lines yourself. You should be able to get the specs from pd. I am not expert, and don't have experience enough to tell you if you'd experience hard openings with an out of trim canopy. I know(think) you fly a spectre, and they're not known for hard openings... But, in my humble opinion, if you are that freaked out about it, maybe you're telling yourself you're healed when subconsciously you know/think you're not. Have you seen a doctor? Jumping with an injury only makes the injury worse ime. Not a doctor, just my thoughts:) I hope you feel better soon. Sorry I couldn't be of some help. Angela.

I really enjoyed the Saturday I spent at Skydive San Diego. The people (staff & fun jumpers) were very friendly, the plane was fast, and they kept busy so no wait between loads. I had not heard very good things about this dz from folks on this website. However, I can only assume that the place has changed drastically because I really enjoyed myself. They do have a lot of tandems, but I was not booted from any loads and had no trouble getting on. And, lift tickets are only 15$ all summer! Lovely scenery from up top, too! The landing area is good sized, and there is a section of the landing area designated for hook turns/ hp canopies only. The winds were low and I hear that they are pretty predictable with compare to winds in Perris Valley and Elsinore. I hope to get back there again soon! :) Angela (from Florida).

It'd be nice to know in advance what options to go for that would prevent one from having to use these. I have a used container/harness right now, so it isn't a perfect fit, but it isn't too bad. My hiprings are not stainless, tho. Angela.

Why do some need these and some don't? My boyfriend has a voodoo and it fits him well enough that he doesn't have this issue. My Javelin, otoh, absolutely needs one or I have the same problem with transitions:( So, is it a brand thing? A fit thing? thx. Angela.
