Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
That'd be cool. I'm going with Stainless on my Voodoo. I spoke with Sandy and he's eased my mind about the hardware saying that if I had problems, he'd later install the non-stainless friction adapters if i'd like:) Super guy! Very pleased with his attitude over the phone. Thanks everyone! I'm just figuring my best price dealer and getting my form together:) If anyone knows any women ~5'5" who own a voodoo, see if you can find out what length risers for me. Otherwise, i'm going to go with the Voodoo standard risers which are 19.5" because my boyfriend has 21" on his voodoo and he has longer arms than me. I'm also going with the 'narrow' leg straps after speaking with Sandy about it. Thanks again to everyone!! angela. -
Where to go for AFF: SDU, Deland, Zhills, ETC
SkydiveNFlorida replied to Terminal-V's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I repeated an AFF level and it costed me about 120$ extra. I think that most people get off only repeating a level or two, and that wouldn't cost too much. Plus, tunnel time certainly does not mean you'll not need to repeat a level, it just means you probably wont repeat a level for lack of stability i'd think. I repeated my level for lack of altitude awareness, not lack of stability, so tunnel time would've done me no good. It's up to you, I did my AFF in Sebastian. I had a great time there and I felt I got pretty good training although it'd be nice if more canopy stuff was included in AFF (but for the most part, that doesn't seem to be the case for any AFF program). Z-hills and Deland are also nice dzs and i'm sure either would work fine for you,... but for partying/fun, z-hills probably wins! I also got Laurie as a coach there and got my A license worked out in no time flat. Other dzs seemed not to want to help me out as much, so I would recommend sd city if you want to progress thru your a-license quickly. Who knows what you'll need. You won't know if stability is an issue for you until you jump. Personally, I wouldn't pay the xtra 500$ up front, but that's just me. -A -
I knew that would happen... Face it, Dee, you're a junkie! You'll be back b4 Oct for sure! I knew you wouldn't make it, lol!! :D I'm glad you're feeling good, chica. Best wishes with FEMA and the ins co. Buy only the good stuff when it's someone else's $$! Go jump! You deserve it!! Angela.

Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
What's the diff between all these? What do DJ and PdF stand for? Any pix to compare? I will be calling RI on Monday about a few things and i'll ask about this, too, at that time. thx. angela. -

Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm buying a Voodoo. This is hard. I might stick with the non-stainless hardware and kick myself later if it needs replacement. I don't want to think about having anything slip on opening! Angela. -

SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
It is for looks only. It will help with resale value. Any thoughts on corrosion factor? You're here in Fla, Ron, do you have stainless, and if not, how have your rigs held up? I am not concerned with resale. thx. Angela. -

SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
What about slipping with stainless, and others who have said there were problems with higher cutaway forces, etc. **I am prepared to suck it up and order the rig with stainless if it is that big a deal, but I wanna make sure i'm not trading a lesser evil (corrosion), or a greater one (life threatening slipping or impossible cutaway). ** Do you usually recommend not to have the legstrap and cheststrap hardware in stainless for these reasons like another person seemed to suggest? Thanks. Angela. -

SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Oh, shit. Is that what they're all made of? Man, I didn't wanna have to spend the extra dough, but it's looking like it might be worth it now ** Oh, nice camera, btw. Pretty detailed stuff. Thanks for posting! Angela. -
Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't plan to sell it,... maybe ever. If I ever downsize enough to make this rig look like shit, i'll keep it for pond swooping:D In fact, i've thought about keeping my Javelin around for that reason, i'll probably wanna give it a shot in a years time. hell, I guess ss would come in handy for that, huh? I'm gonna ask around at my dz if it's common for major issues without ss. My boyfriend's rig still looks new after 700 jumps and a few years. I don't wanna buy ss if I don't need it. I really do think it looks pimpish. Anyone else buy ss because their stuff rusted? Can you give an idea of how that happened? Anyone w/o ss that has had 1000+ jumps on a rig in humid climate w/no issues? thx. Angela. -
LMAO! thanks! Angela.

SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Dude, this sux, it's all shiny and it's an extra 250$. I'll think about it. Thanks for the heads up! My shit doesn't sit around in the humidity unused all day or anything.. if it's out there, it's being jumped. Do you think it is due to it sitting in the humidity while you do tandems? I'm just trying to figure out if I'M really gonna need something like that. Mine stays air conditioned when i'm not jumping it. ugh. Angela. -
Do you Voodoo? Tell me about your rig!
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
No, I have perfect reach, not too short, not too long. I actually have a pair of 22"ers that were too long, I bought the 21" later on. Knowing that 1" can make that much of a difference, I don't want to end up in a bind if I get the wrong risers. I'm going to call and talk to Sandy on Monday, he's already gone for the day now. Brenda at RI said the pilot chutes come in different sizes with the different sized rigs. For the V0, I believe she said 26". Thanks guys for helping me out! Angela. -

How do I know if my environment is corrosive? Here in the US, which states fall in this catagory? I live in S. Fla, and might move out to SoCal. My current harness does not have stainless hardware and i've not had any problems with it. Why is the Amazon so bad? thx. Angela. -
Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I didn't say that!! I said no ocean landing... but, if I do... i'll rinse right away with freshwater to avoid corrosion. See, i'm so smart Tim, I know that you know I wasn't serious... but, just in case (because my boyfriend has pointed out that my sarcasm sux), if you didn't know, now you do. I hope that made sense. .. Yeah, I checked out BASE early on, that's not on my to-do list at the moment any longer, decided i'd rather swoop... that gives me all the groundrush I need. Angela. -
Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Well, well.... i'm not doing it and you can't make me! First a license, now pimp hardware... With all the damn rules in this sport I think I need to take up BASE! -A -
Do you Voodoo? Tell me about your rig!
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
Already read that and debated it. I am pretty certain i'm getting it, though, a lot of people like them and I want to try it out. Any answers to my other questions, tho?? Risers, pilot chute, legstraps, price? thx. Angela. -
Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?

But... but... , I don't need to be pimpin' in my rig, can't I just get the standard dull stuff?? Pleeeeze!! Angela. -
Stainless steel hardware,... is it really necessary?
SkydiveNFlorida replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think it looks kinda pimpish, but some say that it is the better choice. I'm not planning on jumping into the ocean with my rig then leaving it on the beach to dry, so does it really matter??Thoughts? thx. Angela. -

PRICING : Ok, on the RI website it lists the retail price as 1675$. On the websites that sell the gear, it says 1875$. What's up with that?? !! DETAILS : Would wide leg straps be too large for a girl? How do I know what length risers I need? My current risers are 21" on my Javelin, but my boyfriend has 21" risers on his Voodoo and has longer arms than me. Does that mean I need shorter risers on a Voodoo? Do most of you not need a bungee on your rigs? My boyfriend doesn't not need a bungee for freeflying, how can I be sure mine will fit so well? Also, what size pilot chute do I need? I'm getting the pullout deployment system, does this mean I don't need as large a pilot chute since I pull the pin myself? thx. Angela -
Just off student status/buying own gear..PLEASE HELP!!!
SkydiveNFlorida replied to andtheyflew's topic in Gear and Rigging
What she said ^^ ! You're gonna outgrow your stuff so quick, why bother with new gear? I'm finally getting new gear, you can buy my setup in a couple months (the container and reserve anyhow). Seriously, check out the classifieds! Good deals, pictures, and for the most part honest people who will send things to your rigger for inspection. Sure as heck save you some $$ up front, and resale on used stuff won't hurt as bad cuz you won't lose as much $$. If you must have new gear (which i'm NOT recommending), manbird has the right idea, get stuff that you can sell quick! Think popular brands, most new jumpers seem to go for Javelin. Angela. -
Florida Power and Light are FUCKING INCOMPETENTS
SkydiveNFlorida replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
I see you have listed swooping as one of your disciplines. I see you have 106 jumps. Please tell me that you just want to swoop one day or that you havent updated your jump #'s in a LONG time. Im serious when I say I don't want to see you get hurt but if you are trying to swoop with 100 jumps - really, really bad idea. *** Man, wtf does that have to do with this thread. Keep shit like that in pms, if you must butt into people's business at all (which doesn't seem necessary, imo). It's people like you that keep low-timers from posting anything non-anonymous. I wonder if I filled out my profile and started a thread about cheese if i'd have you butt in asking me some bullshit questions like this. I can understand if you have nothing better to do and wanna drill someone asking about canopy stuff, but this is about FPL not crossbraced canopies. ____________________ Furthermore, come on people, leave PJ alone. I know it's easy to come into a post like this and slam, but what's the point after the person has apologized? How do you know if he's sincere or not? You don't, so leave the guy alone. We've all wished someone dead before (although, for most, those days have passed). Everyone has a bad day, PJ just has more than the average Joe is all. I don't stick up for him often, but this is ridiculous, let it go. Later. Angela. -
