there will be a world cup meet in Orange, MA (jumptown.com, jumptown.com/events/speedskydiving.shtml) last weekend of August this year, which i happen to organize this year there will be 4 meets overall, in France, UK, Sweden and the US. i want to get more people interested in this discipline and to bring the competition to the US. it's pretty expensive to travel to Europe for competition, but if there is interest, there will be more events in the US. so if you're interested, show up and show what you've got :) you can register at jumptown.com web site for the even, or PM me. the event is also posted at dz.com calendar. i also have a link to Speed Skydiving forums in my signature, everybody is welcome to join ... what you should do is to open page in one window in win1251 and in another one with koi8r. get the correctly displayed pieces from both (you're gonna have problem here :)) and copy it to the same html file. it might depend on what you use to edit your html. i use outlook express email window to bring two pieces in different coding together. or you might also give up and get youself a cold one and forget about the whole ordeal -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... i think if you have lines under pressure, even plastic one will slice them in a second. in fact it's one of the arguments about cutting line over - it's very easy to cut too many lines trying to cut the one you really have to. i'm not sure about cutting risers though. stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... as for audible part of speed skydiving, you're right. it makes a lot of noice and can be easily mistaken for jet. i didn't beleive until i heard myself on the video that was shot from the ground. as for 40 mph, that's i beleive is not true. my jumptrack software will beg to differ though: 40 mph dive ProTrack for that dive was placed in my helmet and most likely i turned my head while transitioning into horizontal flight. every time the speed curve is smooth, it's most likely means that ProTrack was in the shadow or in the area of high preassure and then when it gets back to normal air, it will have to compensate preasure drop/raise and it will draw this nice fake smooth line. moving ProTrack to later webbing will make it much harder to produce such fake results and the profile will look more like this: more realistic one adding another ProTrack on another side and averaging should eliminate the fake results almost completely. i usually go from full dive into track right away, without any speed bleeding and i get a lot of forward speed. how fast i'm going and what the acceleration ? i have no clue. as for deceleration, on the second profile, i go from 290 to 110 mph in 14.75 seconds, which, if my calculations are correct, should add approximately .55g to my weight, brining it from 210 to 325 pounds :) feels good ... and the curve is steeper when i start slowing down, so i could be up to 350 at that point :) funny, that after doing so many speed dives, regular track or RW feels so weird for me :) without usual high speed and pressure if feels very mushy and strange, like a ballon jump :) stan -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... if i don't have anti-virus on my computer it doesn't mean i have my ports open :) and i added "to some extend" meaning that opening attachments with strange names/extensions and/or unexpected senders will eliminate 98% of all the virus attacks. people get viruses because they don't think or don't want to think. and that's what the article mentioned in original post refered to. agree, and i didn't mean finding letters in my sent box as a sign of the virus presence either. more like response from mailing list to your email that you didn't send, of from your friend. or some outgoing network traffic when there shouldn't be any. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... How do you know? Lots of viruses don't do anything to your machine, they just use your machine to launch attacks. You'd never know you have one if you don't use a virus scanner. not necessarily true. if your computer doesn't send any emails itself, nothing weird is going on it, there is no unexpected or unexplainable network traffic, you can be sure to some extend that it's clean. i don't have any anti-virus software on my home computer myself and never had any problem with viruses. it's actually pretty simple, don't open files named sexy_bin_laden.JPG.pif or kiosk.exe and you should be all set :) in old DOS era it was very different when files were shared on floppies and floppies were bootable :) -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ...
