  1. On the road to a velo, jumping something ground hungry seems like a damn good idea, cause... man,.... the Velocity wants to be on the ground, now! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 2. It's all the stories like this that I have heard from people that make me such a PD snob. My new Micron that is coming in February is gonna have a brand spankin new optimum reserve! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 4. Until the drogue comes out, a tandem right off the plane is accelerating at freeflying rates. I dunno what exactly I do anymore I just kinda do it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. I abstained from the poll, cause my views on what a relationship is couldn't even remotely consider that option. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  6. Well, you could splurge and get two extra monitors and hook them up on both sides, if the game supported them (does it??) Sure but if you lean over towards the monitor you still can't see down! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 7. The thing that drives me batshit insane about flight simulator games is that it is really hard to "look around." I have a hell of a time figuring exactly where I am and where the airport is. Which I know from being in a cessna quite a bit is just not nearly as hard as it is in the sim. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 8. Considering most of your swooping has been on stilettos I think there might be some benifit to putting a decent number of jumps on a canopy that is closer to a neutral recovery arc before jumping right into a velocity. I don't know that its a necessary requirement, but it might help you get more used to a canopy that just wont plane out on its own. I would also suggest tuning back from 270s to 90s for at least a couple jumps. The sight picture is way different for a katana compared to a stiletto. I went from a crossfire 139 right to a velo103 so I am not picture perfect role model. The crossfire does dive quite a bit more than a stiletto though and I am doing close to a 100 jumps a year just hop and pops. I also started doing performance approaches around 150 jumps. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. I dunno, I just trust myself better, maybe that is stupid, technology has come a long ways. I will admit that I use a neptune on my wrist as a rough guide for flying my pattern. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 10. I think there is a benifit to experiencing a crosswind landing and maybe even downwind landings in an area you are comfortable with. It will give you some experience and knowledge for dealing with them should you be forced to do so if you are landing off the airport. It might also help you to know that you can do it rather than try and make a low turn into the wind. With that said, don't just go out there and try these types of landings. Work with one of your local instructors so that you can be sure you have all the other requisit skills first. Get advice from a local instructor who you trust on how and when to do these things and minimize the chances of you getting hurt. Have fun, stay safe, blue skies! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. The 100 euros cheaper than a wings for an "expensive" rig which to me sounds like a javelin or vector is probably worth the hassle of dealing with it. You save money and at least in my opinion, those two manufacturers make a better rig. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. This weekend Sky Knights in East Troy, Wisconsin will be holding its Second Annual Film fest. To go along with that we are holding our first ever chili cook-off. Also this weekend we will be having helicopter jumps on Saturday. To go along with everything else we have going this weekend both Saturday and Sunday jumps from our PAC will be $18. Hope to see some of you there! We will have Freefly and RW organizing going on as well so don't be afraid to stop out even if you don't know anyone at our dz. Were a pretty friendly bunch. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 14. If you are a student, for sure go with the clear. I have both clear and smoked. I will only wear the clear ones when I am instructing and for the most part don't wear the smoked ones much at all anymore. Its nice if it is super bright or if I am jumping with a lot of snow on the ground. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. One of the people at my DZ just got his ticket. He ended up getting work from people who needed their rig packed "right now" because they just had a cutaway or something. Eventually he got some other work just cause other people were busy. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. Wow, that's pretty "boot camp." Was that because you were expected to get somewhere to debrief as soon as possible? Supposed to be paying attention to what the student is doing under canopy and there was a general feel that its dangerous to do because you aren't paying attention to everyone else who is landing. I'm just capable of doing both well enough that I feel safe stowing where I land. I dealt with it for the course cause I had to and I learned something about complacency too. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 20. Yep. I could care less what people want to do as long as the bureaucrats aren't going to get pissed off about it. A whole lot of them don't really understand the sport fully because they don't participate and they could really put a damper on what we do. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 21. yeah, just a lack of knowledge I think. PD doesn't make a 130 reserve as far as I know. Also just from looking at the picture, if the main is in fact a pd190 there is no way that reserve is only 130 square feet. So, to the owner, dig out the datacard and take a look at what you really got there. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. sweet. You look way more badass than I do. Even with the new rig that I just ordered. I got the low profile D handle too. but didn't spend quite as much on "look cool" bling. I did get spacer foam, magnets and a skyhook though. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 23. I managed to get my canopy to the point of putting the bag in the container before realizing my brakes weren't stowed. I had put them in their keepers but not through the eye in the control line. I noticed it when I was stowing my risers. Something seemed really wierd about that packjob, but i choked it up to the fact that I was confused and stressed out. Mind you this was during my AFF course. We weren't allowed to stow brakes in the landing area (something I always do, w/o fail) so it was just out of my normal routine. Mind you, that is totally unrelated to your problem. Good on you for doing what you felt best and living to tell about it! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 25. Makes sense. That'd probably be a lot easier then dealing with either side. With the added benefit of getting a wireless network at the same time (if you buy the wireless kind of router). Also not going to solve the problem if there is some routing issue between his cable/dsl at home and the hospital. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
