I have a 580exII that I can mount to my helmet to jump with, I don't do it very often though. As for using a flash in the plane, I use my camera's built in flash on every tandem video when I am taking a picture of the customer in the plane and have never had a pilot notice or complain. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Tunnel and you are gonna learn a whole hell of a lot of other skills along the way! Your question is basically 120 coached "skydives" or 10 coached skydives. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I have done 14-way out of a PAC. We found that any more than 5 (including camera) outside the plane was unreasonable and led to problems keeping the plane flying right. It isn't super fun being a diver either. I don't think I would be comfortable doing anything larger than 14-way RW from a PAC and 12 is a MUCH more reasonable number. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. This camera is kind of interesting. I already have an XSi and I like it quite a bit otherwise I might consider one of these. This camera seems to build off the things that they learned from the XSi but it is 10.1 MP instead of 12.something which isn't a deal breaker. They are also quoting it as the "Lightest and most compact" DSLR that canon has made. They also claim continuous 3 frame per second shooting till the memory card is full. Seems like it would be a good option for people, available in August. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17316#ModelDetailAct ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Doable. I would consider having it done as a two person jump. One guy holds each side. If you didn't want to just drop the light bar one skydiver should probably have it attached to a second harness (with a cutaway, and a full face helmet) to ensure that it isn't dropped (given its weight) and jumper 2 should probably assist with deployment. Some of the military guys on here might know a bit more about how to rig something like that. Cool jump. You should let the DZ keep the light bar cause it would make a really cool beer light. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I recently bought a PS3 for the blueray player and cause I wanted something that was more portable. I keep it in an old laptop bag and can tote it with me to the dropzone. I despise microsoft for all that they are and that alone prevented me from getting an xbox360. Not to mention that you have to pay for the online service and it doesn't play bluerays. I have a PC too though, i mostly use it for editing these days. I also play wow every now and then in the winter. Though I didn't last winter cause I was spending a lot of time with my GF. WoW is a very consuming thing for me, really.. any MMO is. I have a problem with that kinda stuff. At least I am pretty damn good at the games though.

Have sprained an ankle jumping (my only skydiving injury to date) and the general rule of thumb that I went by was that you should be able to "run" up / down stairs before you start jumping if you want it to be fully healed. That said, a lot of it depends on experience. I have seen a guy jump with a cast on his broken foot before. He was even a doctor! Not smart I know, but he had well over a 1000 jumps and upsized to a 170 from a 90ish sized canopy. He cut his own cast off a few weeks later. Highly recommending you don't follow in his footsteps and ensure that things are fully healed before you jump again!!! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. That's not what he is saying. A traditional aff "course" isn't what people typically think of as a learning course. It's not like taking a course at a college or anything like that. For the most part, you are expected to know everything already when you get there. That isn't to say you don't learn things. You just can't go into it w/o having learned pretty much everything you need to know already, which is what happens in a "pre-course." The words just don't really match up to what is happening. Its mostly just semantics. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Amy will be at Sky Knights this weekend to do one on one coaching as well as small group freefly organizing. Amy has been out to jump with us at Sky Knights for the last few years and everyone has had a great time and most people walk away with some good experiences. So come on out jump the PAC and get in some good freefly jumps this weekend. There is no boogie/coaching fee and jumps are $24. Hope to see you there! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Not a fuse problem. The stereo is broken. They have computer/electronic controlled amplifiers in them. I have a clarion unit in my car that I have had since my previous car (3-4 years) and it has recently just not come on or given out and stoped working. With the same circumstances of if you turn the volume all the way up you can kinda hear it. That's a bad amplifier or a failing amplifier. Since the stereo in your car is most likely not worth much, your only realistic option is to buy a new one. I speak from the standpoint that I have had custom stereos in every car I have owned since I was 16. I really like quality sounding music and have never been satisfied with stock. I have installed all of them myself as well as troubleshooting most of the problems my friends have with stereos. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Does anybody have a problem with changing the date of the Hinkley meet from July 12th to July 19th? Dan was going to be in charge of setting up for this one, but as most of us know he's moved out of state and I'm taking care of it. I know Derrick wanted to make it this one but the date wasn't the best for him either... Anybody object? I'll give you guys till Monday night to speak up, otherwise I'll change the date. Neither date is really good for me, but I think this coming weekend the 12th would be easier to do. This saturday I just have something after sunset that I have to be back at my DZ for, next saturday we have Amy Chmelecki in town organizing which I really don't want to miss :P Just let us know whichever way it goes and I'll try and get there. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. That is possible, hence the recomendation to fly the canopy gently. You are no longer in a normal situation, so it's no longer the appropriate time for normal canopy flight. "Baby" the canopy and only do what you must do to land safely. You do however need to do a full controlability check while above your decision altitude (toggles all the way down turns, full flare) so that you know what circumstances you are in. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I know this thread is about Javellins, but in regards to the packing data cards on Vectors. There are two locations. A new rig without spacer foam will have it in the normal place behind the mudflap. If you get spacer foam, they can't put it there because of how the foam is designed. That is when it gets moved to the bottom of the rig on the backpad. I was skeptical at first but both locations work really well and both have the "reverse removal" thing so you wont lose your data cards. I have successfully stowed a pullup in both locations as well w/o problem. (I have one of each) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. So you found a TG1 that has lense threads on it? Or is it a different model? I have been considering the idea of getting a TG1 and using epoxy to glue some threads onto the front of it for attaching a filter. I haven't had one in my hands, would it be possible to machine the front of the camera to accept a lense / filter? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Just for my own curiosity, what kind of canopy is this, how big is it, how much do you weigh, how many jumps on it? It looks to me like you were not landing into the wind, as other people have already pointed out. Why not? A good landing starts with a good landing pattern and setup. If you are not doing that part right you are just giving yourself more things to overcome when it comes time to fly your final and actually land. Work that part out so you can do it right and it will make landing easier. Next, if the gear is your gear. You need to work with a local instructor and/or rigger to get the brake lines set right. Watching the video at the end of your final, it looks like you have your hands down all the way by your head already and it doesn't appear to be deflecting the tail of the canopy at all. Like others have said, that might mean your brake lines are set too long. You should not just change them on your own at your experience level. Work with an instructor to make sure they are set up right. For a large canopy like that you ideally want them to start pulling the tail down after the first inch or so. That brings me to my next point, on your final you are not flying with your hands all the way up. That will slow you down some which will cut down on your available lift when it comes time to land. So other than minor corrections you need to keep your hands up until it is time to flare. Something I have seen is that when people have landing problems, they start to get nervous as they get close to the ground. The hands creep down and that slows things down a little bit. Makes them a little less scared, but it doesn't help the landings. Phree already mentioned it, you're reaching down to land. That comes from the "OMG MUST GET ON GROUND RIGHT NOW I'M SCARED" thing. Ok, maybe it's not that dramatic, but beginning skydivers have a tendency to reach down with one foot or a hand to land. This is a natural habit that you have to break. It comes from how we were taught to fall down and how we take steps down from high places. Don't lift your hands up till you are on the ground, also, remember to keep your hands nice and close in to your body. It will let you reach down farther and will protect them if you do fall over (PLF!) I bolded the most important parts and want to remind you that you need to work on these things with a local instructor. At your experience level they are going to be able to do a whole lot more for you than a post on the internet. If you don't have faith in them, you might want to find another DZ where you can work with people you do trust. One other thing, for some of the other posters in this thread. If you are still a skydiving student, giving advice to other people with very little experience can be very dangerous. Not that anything I read in this thread is specifically that bad, but damn wouldn't you feel bad if you gave the poster advice and they went out and did it and got hurt because you didn't know what gear or other stuff they were doing or capable of? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Agreed. I really really don't like XM radio. I can't stand fucking commercials and I don't like the way the stations are layed out on XM. None of them make any sense at all. Makes me want to kill myself trying to figure out what station to listen to. On sirius i have like 9 channels that all play music that I like. I will for sure cancel and go all iPod if this lowers the quality of service that I am used to. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. We have 5 attorneys in my office that use it. Most of them use it for writing emails because they have secretaries for documents. I can sit down on a machine that isn't trained for me and it gets at least 80% of the speech right. The latest version is pretty damn good if you ask me. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Happens at our DZ every now and then as well. Though, we have a policy worked out with the local police at our dropzone. If there is a cutaway, our office notifies the police department so that they know everyone is ok. Saves them the trouble of driving out. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I'll be competing. We also have another local who might give it a shot. Dan told me last night that he will be at this one. He already set up the carving course Sunday night. I still have ambitions to make it to the other meets, but they are on "Club Meeting" days for our dz and I am on the board of directors We'll see though! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Have you considered that what you think is "spot" on is not really? The paper on the gogles thing will work well but otherwise, just try moving your head angle up and your eye angle down. You need to learn to look where "center" is rather than just keep on thinking that where you are looking is center. When shooting camera the first few things you have to learn is to hold your eyes still and move the camera around to look at the target. (This teaches getting your subject in frame) and then you have to learn how to keep your subject in frame and move your eyes so that you can see things other than what you are shooting video of. Sounds like these things are totally opposite of one another, and they kinda are, but both are really important skills. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Skydiving Under The Age of 18 in Illinois?

As far as I know, there is no where in Illinois that will take someone under 18. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka -
See my thread: CX7 - Shake while freeflying. To me at least, head up the camera is worthless.
