    I want to do base.

You have done SO MUCH research that you have never posted on the UK board...................... being based in the UK I would think that was your first port of call............. - but don't expect a huge response to posts like "I am looking for a mentor" Knowing how insular and tight knit we are and also weary and bored of hearing people saying "I would love to do that........", "I want to do that", "I coulda done that" - you have a lot more work to do my friend before you are taken seriously............. Think seriously about your "TRUE" reasons for wanting this and whether you do have the commitment to do this - not having 100% commitment in my mind is ludicrous in this sport - you cant be a tourist in this game............. If your not willing to travel further than this windy green Island to find your dreams then you aint committed to it............... and you will find that is the easiest part of getting your goal.................. It may look cool on video - but most of the time its hardwork, cold, lonely, tiring and frightening............... is this what you really want?? .............. its just the way it is.............. 4. In addition, I used to use PC's without load tapes on the top skin of the PC - and these used to oscillate considerably. I then used load taped PC's which kept the oscillation to a minium and this was then practically elliminated by me now using AV PC's (except my 46"). - I still get a little oscillation if I flick the PC out to hard (I normally give a little flick of the wrist and let it go (on delays to 2 seconds) - hardly any movement) - On holding and folding the PC on lower jumps (215ft - 250ft) I fold the bridle and then some of the mesh in my hand leaving a 2 or 3 inch circle of mesh exposed to catch the air - I find this method works nicely with 1 second delay from 215 - 225 range. For 2 second delays I fold all the mesh in my hand and leave the ZP top exposed and for 3 second delays I fold all the PC into my hand (dependant on available altitude for opening). A few of us have experimented with 42" at the lower end of 215 - 225 with 1 second of freefall and seem to have come to the "non-video" conclusion that there is not a great difference between a 1 second 42" and Go and Throw 46" from these heights. There seems to be no notiable difference in inflation and extraction time. (its dark so can not comment on canopy opening height). Maybe someone (TA?) can add more insightful comments to this. Thanks
  5. Im 29 and I certainly remember - I was at work reading this site in fits of laughter!!
  6. This is not politically correct!! But this will be funny to the thousands of UK people who grew up taking the piss outta people with shouts of "You Joey" http://www.spleen.dsl.pipex.com/joey.html What a blast from the past!!! Some great quotes here!!!

    pilot chute

    try your rigger..........
  9. Post to the UK board - there are a couple of jumpers who are experienced paraglider pilots.
  10. at my local I have taken rubbish away left by the little shit kids who go up there to smoke chong and drink cheap cider - I dont want the police making spot visits cause the area is becoming a public eyesore just in case i maybe at that moment appreciating some beautiful ground rush........
  11. As you walk to the edge, internal and focused, you climb onto the exit, sit and take in the views. Your brain is screaming, “What the hell are you doing here”. Suddenly, you are enveloped by a gentle calm, you feel relaxed and accepting of your environment, it’s a peaceful place. All your stresses and worries are a million miles away – you are internal and all you can hear is your heartbeat. When was the last time you felt your heartbeat? 3-2-1-CYA and you can feel the edge push against the soles of your feet. You are now totally committed no turning back now. For 2 seconds, you are floating. There is no noise; time has slowed. The air starts to rush into your face. The ground starts to rise up towards you. Smears appear at the sides of your vision. Now for the finale. Its time to get off the ride, deploy and save your life! From deployment to “the crack” of your canopy you are helpless. You continue to fall, trailing a pilot chute wondering, “Is this going to open?” The ground continues its surge into your face. The 1 second it takes to feel and hear the “crack” seems like an eternity BANG! No time to think! On risers, control, toggles, turn, slow, pick the spot, flare, land, pack away, walk away fast, leave without trace. Overwhelming feelings of well-being and achievement cover you. A warmth runs through you.

  14. YOur girlfriend says "its me or BASE" and you say "CYA"
  15. I have heard of someone else that claims this! UK BASE "low low number" As for tools etc! I agree! I used to tie my risers together with a pull up at the links - I borrowed a pull up from someone and packed! - they asked me for their pull up and I could not find it - I searched and searched - I then checked my rig and found it still tied around my risers!!!!! - My next jumps was a 220ft freefall A - thank the lord he asked me for it and I felt bad in not giving it back!!! that could have been interesting!!! I now am so anal about anything I use for packing as a simple "lost thought" can and will cause a fucking interesting visual or pain!
  16. have PM'd you a question............
  17. I wanted to BASE at 100 jumps I then decided when I had 300 jumps that I was no where near ready I started BASE at 500 jumps I wish I had more experience when I first started.... BASE is not skydiving so to say "you need XXX(x) amount of jumps is, I think, impossible - I have met people that started BASE with 2 skydives and are good jumpers but I also know people with 2000 skydives that know they aint ready.......... It has to be about mind set I think - you have to be truely honest with ones self to know if your ready - I think that the more skydive experience you get the more honest you are with yourself on whether "its time"????? maybe thats wrong? just my two strokes worth!
  18. 2 stakes? is that in both leg straps? can you tell me "generally" where the hell you use so many clamps? also how do you use the tensioners and what do you attach them to? the packing tab points? I use 1 at the risers to group the lines - i at the line / canopy meet to control the lines - and 4 just to control after micro reefing and folding to hold it - I cant imagine where i would use / need more and why "at the stabalisers" would be beneficial?? Each to their own! and even if it has no function if it makes you happy at the exit point - then do it!! hehehe seriously though - would be interested!
  19. I used to pack without started clamps, saw no need! - now i always use them coz the way i see it - why the fuck not if it makes wrestling the crocodile easier!
  20. I took the CR FJC and had a couple of issues with it but all in all a very well structured course. I am glad I went on it. My friend took the Morpheus fjc (florida stylie) and after some discussion with him I would have prefered the morpheus course. My reasoning on this is that they cover the detail as well as CR but the jumping environment is more in tune in what to expect once you are out and about jumping (especially in the UK) - its all very well making a bunch of jumps off a legal span with tourists watching you and asking questions with a boat under you with an experienced and down right great guy as basically groundcrew - but it does not prepare you for the cold dark lonely nights sneaking around and making jumps - i know of one guy who did the legal span FJC and enjoyed it but when he got home and tried to make some normal jumps decided that it was not for him. My first jump after the course on what is now my local A was one of the most intense times - my first night jump, my first A and my first sneaky beaky jump - it throws a different aspect into the equation. I beleive the Morpheus course (from second hand info) introduces you partly to the different objects / different heights and different exit postitions and the sneaky shit - in my humble opinion this is more beneficial. I know that its benefical also to make your first jumps in a relaxed atmosphere coz it takes away some of the other shit you have to deal with and you can get into that under your own steam - but this is BASE jumping and its never easy........ just my 2 glugs worth.......... Michael
