If anyone has one of these - my Alti functions have stopped - is this possibly just in need of new batteries? although its timing / light / alarm functions are fine! I have had it about a year and never paused it! Does the Alti functions stop when a new battery is required??? - or is it fucked?!?! Laterz

How fucking true! Its strange how many skydivers still see BASE as "suicidal" - but have no problem in down sizing more and more earlier and earlier and no one bats an eye over it................ It is deemed "cool" to jump these little pocket rockets - and people are fucking up all over the place in front of the non-jumping public and friends........... but still we are deemed to be the "dangerous" ones! - fucking hypocrites!

I was recently selling a rig. Most eMails I received were from “wannabes” – after some questions to find out that they were not jumping but “had a mentor” I would then only talk with this “mentor” and asked them to get them to contact me. Funny that these “mentors” seemed never to email me!! Saying that I also received contact from a few “BASE” jumpers – to be honest after speaking I just felt a little uncomfortable in selling to them as they were low timers with no real solid base to go out and jump (no contacts, not enough knowledge about UK jumping) – and I just felt uncomfortable in selling to them. In the end I sold the kit to someone who had done the BR course but had never made a fixed object jump – why? Because I was friends and jumped with 2 people that knew him very well and they vouched for him – I trusted their opinion. Since then I have made a jump with the guy I sold the rig to and he recently made a bunch of jumps on a trip, I have no problem in jumping with him in the future. There are more important things in life than money………………….

it seems to me that this causes an unsymetrical way to tie a tailgate and with the additional bulk on one side would only cause more problems then it solves - the only reason I could see that this is done is that it stops littering on well jumped sites - and also stops you loosing it if your too tight to buy more!! heheheh - I have heard some really jumped sites have an unacceptable amount of bands at the bottom - but is there any technical reason to larkshead? - I dont think that there is. Maybe I am wrong?!?

I cant seem to log into BLiNC so am posting here until I try and create a new profile!! There was a discussion a couple of years ago on this http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=12&topic_id=778&mesg_id=778&listing_type=search and having recently seen a video of a tailgate hang up - (not particularly nice!) I am just interested if anyone has witnessed and further hang ups and what the config / jump was on these hang ups. The one i saw a video was a black band 3 wrap PCA. (Im unsure if this was larksheaded). I was normally of the general feeling that the forces invloved in opening would not cause a hangup - if it did it was an extrememly "RARE" thing - so just interested in how rare this actually is! I normally 3 wrap my tailgate and it has been suggested I tie this quite tightly - I have only had 1 PCA jump and most of my jumps are around the 1 second to 2 second delays - I have never had a noticable problem (both feeling and video). Will the canopy size and weight of the jumper have a large effect on the possiblity of of a hang up due to the low deployment speeds with PCA's and the tightness of the tailgate? Would be interested in peoples thoughts and experiences here. Thanks Michael :+

mmmm........ I think I did think about that - All i was saying was "generally" I always fold the PC in the same manner - except on 3 secs up high! - but I am so lazy that dont happen very often!! I have taken both the 46 and 42 off that low B - I generally will use the 46 though for anything sub250ft.

I have a theory on this. I do beleive that a 42 is more consistant than a 46 in initial inflation and thus will prove more consistant at lower freefalls. Although I will generally use a 46 for anything below 250ft or a 1 second delay(it just feels better knowing I have a 46 in my hand) , I have used a 42 for "my" lower end freefalls (around 200ft) - I dont beleive that there is much of a noticable difference in the 42 v 46. I have jumped similar jumps with a 42 & 46 and there have been occasions where the 42 has opened me higher than a 46 - this i beleive is due to the initial inflation. I have witnessed people "towing" in a 46 where there has been a problem in the initial inflation - smaller PC's are much more consistant in this. The folding and throwing methods can counter act this. Obviously this goes against convential wisdom and a 42 is deemed "skull collecting" at the lower end of 200ishft freefalls - but I think there a lot of people taking 42s off and having no problems. I have even heard of people taking 42's sub200. There are other things to think about, with the closure system you are jumping and canopy size / weight - but generally I would say a 42 will and is more consistant and not much difference that a 46. Anyone have any thoughts about this?? to maybe disagree (or agree) with my theory........ Be safe always......... my thoughts and opinions are truely worthless.............
