    BASE Family Tree

I am not trying to take anything away from CB and the start of BASE (its why I have a number) – but I don’t mean to be rude when I say why do you arrogantly believe that the start of BASE was a solely American affair? There were many other jumpers around the world before / during / after the start of modern day “American” BASE history. Again I am not disagreeing or taking anything from the pioneers you mention – but just playing devils advocate – Of course unless you are only doing an American Family tree!! All in good fun!

  3. yeah why not glue loads of match sticks together and see if you can build a tower over 200ft.................... WTF................
  4. UK mate email me - michael.mchale@berkeleygroup.co.uk nice one!
  5. sorry mate "ring" or similar is not on my menu! like i said - only "tunes" are available on my menu
  6. having just got a new phone, it seems that the phone does not come with standard "ringing" tones - all i have to choose from are tunes! I have tried on the net and cant find a standard mobile "ring" tone anywhere. can anyone help in me getting my phone to ring rather than play a tune? I just want my phone to sound like a phone ringing rather than some wierd assed tune going off in public! Thanks for any suggestions Michael

this, i think, sums it up http://www.basejump.org/discus/articles/differences.html I went to Norway with a skydiver (1000+ jumps) and his attitude was "its a skydive from a cliff" - but at the edge it turns into a BASE jump and things become different for you................. dont think that height means safe........ a BASE jump is a BASE jump and will never be "like a skydive"

...........but as a "complete" BASE course how would you describe it? The only negative for a FJC is that its a cliff? - Tom, I think this is misleading. To say that the instruction is "first rate" - without giving the shortfalls of the course as a "complete" BASE FJC is not giving the complete overview here - as someone else says it only trains you to jump a terminal wall.
  9. with the troll being measured differently so thus a 265 is more like a 280 then how does this work? Why would a troll 265 (re 280) fit and a BR280ish not? but a CR/AD 280 will? just interested in how these different canopy measurements work out when quoting these sorts of figures.
  10. Due to misunderstanding - the poster has put his real name to the post........... http://www.basejumper.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?s=407c3c676f1effff;act=ST;f=1;t=291 and yes its me..............
  11. i have to admit the jump numbers and time in the sport is quite useful (and enlightening!!) but whether someone has logged on recently is i think too much information. Its not lazy as such its handy, I would like to see country of residence for example (as I stated in another unnoticed post here) I just dont want anyone to know my internet accessing information and this is a small part of it. Why have an option to choose not to be shown on-line but have your last log on date? it defeats the object if you ask me. Can perhaps someone with help in running this board make a comment?
  12. People. I know its possible to not show in the "who online" - but is it / would it be possible to also disable the "last log in" on name header on posting? I dont want people seeing when I am on line or when I was last on line. Thanks Michael
  13. why not use the savings of other costs to pay for the carriage to orlando? just a thought?

Not at all - I like them all............. why do you think I stick my neck out publicly under my own name? I may try and spark some controversial idea - but it does not mean I am saying "I am right"...... but out of all the people that voted against it I am the only person to post why I can see that way of possible thought - & under my own name........... Perhaps instead of shooting the messenger perhaps question why others think this way… I wanted to know if people wanted this forum – and they way I have done this is to put my name to the thought – it’s the way I do things that’s all……… look deeper than the text on the screen as its not always as clear cut as the writing on the wall….. All in all mate and in the scheme of things it’s worthless and meaningless and not worth the server space it’s written on.......... in a few weeks no one will give a fuck anyway…… so who fucking cares……… The only thing that matters is the ground rush - all other things are incidental. Keep it low and antagonistic………

ok. Fair points I guess. The reason I would say not though, is that surely as someone who wants to get into BASE and research it then searching 1 place for all your questions is better than having all the answers spread out over two places? I would have thought a central place / board totally dedicated to BASE would be more ideal for research? so with this in mind why is it a bad thing to ensure skydivers looking into BASE have no misconception of where to look - a BASE dedicated place? Yes this place touches on BASE and is very handy for skydivers who are here due to the skydiving forum.............. but is it actually that beneficial to spread the sport over two forums for those people to research and review? When ever question is asked you can search BLiNC and everytime come up with many answers to the question............. Just me throwing out some thoughts for people to dicsuss?! - no big deal..... just fucking windy!

Just curious, What are peoples thoughts with this forum? I have always been of the thought that BASE should not be taken to skydivers, skydivers should seek out BASE. With this in mind why should there be a BASE jump forum on what is really a Skydiving site? Yes you may argue that it is "related" but I think if you think hard enough there are many other "related" sports but they dont get their own forum - if you want to looking into those sports you go to sites specifically for them. Yes you may argue that "its easier for newbies to ask questions" - fucks sake, learn to roll with the punches and dont take things personally - no one said BASE would be easy so why wrap people in cotton wool and be worried if you offend people - if you dont have the drive to get past the difficulties in finding out information impersonally from the net then maybe its not the sport for you then! People are being wet-nursed too much. Just interested in others thoughts.....
  17. the original rule did not delete posts it held them in a queue to be reviewed. This has been noted and hopefully will be sorted very soon..............
  18. the rules have now changed at this specific forum......... check it

  20. For Information: It might be an idea to check and scan your PC's / Networks for the recent virus that are spreading like wildfire - as I have been receiving ALOT of email's that are being caught by my company virus guard from email addresses relating to BASE and Skydiving. Hope this helps......... & Thanks. Michael

    Toggle settings

for those people that vote "i move my toggle setting between SU / SD" please explain! thanks
  23. BASE813

    Toggle settings

toggle setting is NOT brake setting!
  24. i thought it common practice that the "opening" of the stash bag was folded into in the middle and covered over by the other folds? I thought this was common practice? (and also obvious practice???????????????) oh well!
  25. just interested.......... does anyone move their toggle attachment points dependant on differing jumps? For example: Do you move your toggle attachment setting when moving from SU / SD? Do you move your toggle attachment setting for differing altitudes in exit points / LZ’s? just interested.......... NB: I don’t mean brake settings.
