tom my reply was not directed to you - i just replied to your post.............
-
where exactly did I say all this?
-
just curious, but if some other really nice guy with good experience in BASE, that you did not really know or even did not know at all, advertised this sort of course allowing people with zero skydives to get into BASE, what would your gut reaction be?
-
So with this in mind - would you say that someone with alot of paragliding experience could be a good candidate for a FJC just as someone who has the prereq of 150 skydives?
-
I like that. another nugget..............
-
yes your right this really is nonsensical, irony well im not so sure - but then again you Americans really dont understand irony much any way! who cares about the detail of specifics on Irony / nonsensical - we all know what it means and we understand that it is true................. who gives a shit apart from the fact we know its right................... children stop that!!
-
it does make sense............... it is so so true..................

after a recent comment by someone on this board, and after talking to several paraglider pilots about their sport, I am currious on peoples opinions on how paragliding experience fits with the BASE environment. Its seems to me that there are many skydivers going on FJC's with limited knowledge and limited canopy experience but these are accepted as they have the apparent "prereq's" needed for the FJC - whereas some of the paraglider pilots I have spoken to seem to know a hell of alot more about winds and effects on a canopy, and general canopy flight in general than some of the people on FJC's not exactly prepared. I am not saying anything one way or the other - just wanted to know more about peoples thoughts on the paragliders experience compared to a skydiver with 150 jumps. Yes I know there is a large difference in a 7-cell to a paraglider canopy - but some people I have spoken to who went on a FJC (one of which bust his leg - whos comments were "i wish i did 7-cell experience first") - only had 9 cell ZP swoop canopy experience - so is there really that much of a difference? Discussion?

It makes me giggle when I hear at the DZ people getting excited about making night jumps (skydives) when I just think to myself "hell I would love to do day jumps" When you have a day jump BASE object in the UK its a real bonus............... back to the subject of the thread my order in getting the word is: Getting BASE: S1 x 6 - 486' - FF - FJC S2 x 2 - 250' - PCA / FF - thanks 621 O1 x 1 - 220' - FF - thanks belgium guys A1 x 1 - 225' - FF - my first UK object with only GC A2 x 1 - 500' - FF - thanks belgium guys S2 x 2 - 250' - FF A3 x 3 - 315' - FF - opening my first UK object A1 x 1 - 220' - FF A3 x 1 - 315' - FF - my first pure solo E1 x 1 - 340' - FF - a well known cheesy cliff in UK B1 x 1 - 320' - FF - solo (telephone GC, thanks 811) Got BASE on jump # 20 and object # 8 Day: S1 - 486' O1 - 220' A1 - 225' E1 - 340' Still need my day B! Night: A3 - 315' B1 - 320' E1 - 340' O2 - 215' Still need my night S Well at least writing this out allowed me to go over my early jumps and remember the memories!

seeing that most people feel that the min skydive limit is set too low for some countries, then this is obviously a really good idea! Just for information: if there are any UKers looking to do this course, dont expect anyone to hook up with you or help you on your return back.............. if you dont put in the time, then why should we bother.............
-
what are the prereq's for going on this course?
-
is this a personal attack? maybe post a copy of the article so we all can see?

Vote for DJ Mick Knutson from BLiNC Magazine/The BASE Board
BASE813 replied to mickknutson's topic in The Bonfire
just curious, the links on your site do not work for me - my user agent is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040803. To find the link to your music I have had to view the page source to find the URL. Is this a problem with other mozilla users? or am I barking up the wrong tree here? -

my question is center cell stripping really that bad??? My views are reflected in recent posts...........

I would say that the general height of opening on a Slider Down deployment (obviously this depends on the person and the actual height people open) the toggle release system has no place. On my slider down openings I am more than often open below 100ft, so using a system like this is not practical for me. I have heard people are not using the line mod on SD deployments due to the confidence in the tailgate, I have looked in to it myself, but in the end when you are opening in the sub100 region, do you have the super hero speed to use a LRT / HP Toggle to clear that line over rather than popping and dropping?

nope..........................

its all ok.................. sectioned area with large screen access. 10% off drinks from 5pm til 10pm Vegie curry or meat curry or burger and chips at £3.50 I have found out from someone that the bookings of accomodation at the venue is probably messed up due to the management change over - so give them a call and confirm or try and arrange something else................ herding cats really sucks!

from what I remember (maybe incorrectly) the black bands have been on a couple of tailgate hang ups. - I would not use black bands on my tailgate. I have not been a fan of the multi, as I dont see the benefits out weigh the added complexity and added "shit" to a simple deployment system. People talk of better on heading deployments, or lack of center cell stripping which may cause added problems due to the distortion of the pack job - but I beleive on headings / off headings are more prone to body position and wind direction and strength than whether you have a multi or single attachment point. As for distortion of the pack job, using the right PC for the delay you are doing, non ZP canopies, usually discounts any center cell strip (someone may like to argue against this), I am not well knowledged in terminal deployments, but I assume that due to the possible speed of deployment at terminal center cell strip is more likely - but does the multi "noticably" make a difference with these sorts of deployments? Is the wear on the canopy with a single attachment point on a SL jump compared to a multi something really worth noting? I again dont know much about SL jumps so I am only asking the question. Using black bands on TG's to me is something I dont wish to do, and using a multi with the added shit and hassle - well I still dont see that the advantages out weigh the added hassle. In the end we only encourage a canopy to open in a certain way. and in the end I dont know shit and keep asking questions........ the way I see it, people use multis, people use black bands, and because they have no problems with them they like them. We all just like what makes us happy on the exit point.

whislt this was in the UK it did (as someone said) cause uproar. There were all sorts of protests and national reports on how this was being seen as sick. I wish I had got around to seeing it.

I had some problems with my neck and upper back for a couple of years after a pretty brisk opening that gave me whiplash. After seeing a Chiropractor it got sorted out by going to a sports physio massage woman. I went once a week to have some hefty deep massage with electric current manipulation and after a month or so of visits and exercises each day it sorted itself out.

I have just found out that Russell is no longer manager at this venue and that the new manager who started Friday did not know anything about this! Fucking hell! After some chat with the new manager he has still agreed the time and place, with use of the video screen and sectioned off area, and he is going to do 10% off drinks for us from 5pm to 10pm and an offer on some food dishes during this time too. If you have arranged accomodation there, then I would call and check it........ His assistant manager is due to call me tonight or tomorrow morning to confirm all the details. Thought it was all too easy.......... See ya there!!
