HELP! (from the techie guys) - PC shuts off for no reason
BASE813 replied to BASE813's topic in The Bonfire
I have a seperate additional fan system that my laptop sits on (as I thought it was over heating so a nice friend got me one) now when it shuts down there is hardly any heat at all. I use Mozilla and pop up blockers so pop ups are not a problem. I have several spyware applications that I use so think that this may not be an issue. You seem correct to say "extended use" - it seems that if the laptop "works" hard for a period of time (eg virus scans, drive scans, downloading big files) it shuts off more than should be acceptable. it really is a pain in the arse! - especially as when i run my norton scan before it shuts down there are several threats that it does not have time to deal with........... also, I have tried starting in Safe Mode, but after some DOS text stating paths to load it also shuts down........ So what is this O2 - BHO lark then? Many thanks for your help! M -
HELP! (from the techie guys) - PC shuts off for no reason
BASE813 replied to BASE813's topic in The Bonfire
I was wondering if any of you techie guys can help me out. My laptop continually "goes off", normally when trying to scan with my anti virus or when using interactive CD-Roms or just after several hours continual use. I had first thought a virus was the first thing to check, so I bought Norton, but when trying to do a full system scan it shuts off, I am still unable to do a full system scan. I have tried reading various forums, and some suggested "hi jack this" and have someone comment on the results - it means shit to me so can someone have a look at my log below and comment: many thanks for any suggestions: -
I know the general feeling is that hanwags are the best buy - but I have heard from "experienced" jumpers that these are not technically the best................ what boots are people jumping in?
-
just for an example, when I fucked myself up, 621 was the last jumper after me on the load, and as soon as he realised I was fucked he walked down, (the object was 210ft) - the reason for this was on such an object there was a chance he could bust himself up too if things went wrong, and having 2 people fucked up was alot alot worse than just one on this particular object........... thanks to the people that "carried my ass" out of the landing area and thanks to the people that had the tools to open up the landing area to get me out - it could have been so much worse!

Just wanted to get some feedback on the FF2 from 2K composites for impact protection. I have spoken to SS at 2K, but I want users opinions of them. I will be using the helmet in a strictly BASE environment, so will be getting bumps and scrapes regularly from just climbing objects, I will also want to have reasonable head protection from "impacts" - what I mean is if i should have a hard landing and bang my head on concrete / a rock or have an object strike and smack my head with a "glancing blow" on something solid - will the helmet give me ample protection? I know that skydive helmets are not known for their protection, but I like the design of the FF2 compared to getting a mod done to a ski / mx helmet with a camera box for about the same price, but I would like to hear about the FF2 in the field - anyone have some pretty hard impact with theirs? Thanks Michael

-
huh? i thourght it were a 330 mate.. The shop I ordered it from could not get hold of the 330 in the end, so they refunded the money and I decided to buy a new PC350.......
-
cheers dude.......... I have got quite a lot to look at. I am speakin with a guy tomo to see if they can do something to a MX / Ski helmet for a camera (i have actually ordered a PC350 now) - will be curious on what he charges............. Thanks for all the suggestions
-
Nice one! thanks for that - i missed that thread! cheers! Michael

Does anyone have experience with either of these two cameras? what are the main differences / problems with having either of these cameras? I cant find much in the way of technical comparison or use comparison. Why is the PC350 cheaper than the PC330? For information I will be using this in the BASE environment and will be wanting to DV in out and firewiring footage to friends older model sony cameras. I aint a very technical person by the way! Thanks Michael
-
do a search on this forum - there is a post from Cpoxon that explains how he did it........ Lookin forward to receiving my new PC330 too!
-
Yeah, even with my User Agent Switcher on Mozilla to fool sites I am using a different system it still does not work - oh well over to IE to have a look........... Many thanks
-
for some reason that web page does not work for me thanks
-
it was very very poor, mis-sold as a spine chilling true story - my arse! wooden acting, obvious low budget, only based on the fact they were left there - nothing else true - I would rather rent waterworld!

Best wishes to everyone jumping in the coming year.... I was going to write something thoughtful, but in the end I cant say anything that the rest of us did not already know................ SAFE JUMPS, BIG SMILES, FUN WITH FRIENDS thoughts to all with a missing place this new year......................
-
nice one........ sometimes some of us forget to think outside of the box...................

so would people say that you are going to compromise head protection for a decent snag protection camera mount? I have seen people with protecs etc with camera mounts and they look horrible with definate snag factors, but the helmets with decent mounts I am questioning whether they give decent head protection - which is why i posted this. I like the look of the full face enclosed side mount helmet (skysystems (i think)) and the bonehead optik or bonehead M3T but not sure about the camera mount options on this.......... anyone have thoughts of those?
-
Now I have at last bought myself a new camera (a cheeky little PC330) - I am looking to get a camera helmet - Can anyone suggest a decent camera helmet (top mount or side mount) that also offers some reasonable head protection.........

hey faber - the PC drag table is here: http://www.blincmagazine.com/cms/deployment.shtml and a post from Andrea on the calculations: http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21417&highlight=drag+table and some more info from Andrea: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=738161;search_string=pc%20drag%20table;#738161

one thing that seems not to be mentioned (i dont think by looking over the thread) is the canopy size. It maybe ok to take a 42 for certain freefalls with a 240 canopy but this does not mean that someone with a 280 should be doing it.
-
I used to jump a non-vented canopy for low altitude freefalls (down to 200ft), and have since bought a troll MDV - after jumping this I decided that I would not freefall my non-vented below 250 (I actually ended up selling it) - for the lower stuff I would definatly go with a vented canopy (I like the MDV system for valves) As for terminal - people are jumping vented canopies at terminal - but having very limited terminal experience I cant say much about that..........

You can use AA Route Planner that has UK and Europe if your just looking for road directions http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp Hope this helps

that may have been harsh, and yes I know that I am still learning and I dont really know shit, and that asking questions is a good thing, but surely there is something wrong with someone who is hucking themselves off objects (with 25 jumps its not unheard to not have a mentor or to be going out soloing) and not to have a basic understanding of equipment available to you (I agree that perhaps the bias thing is not something that a great deal of people are fully knowledgable about). Sorry if my tone seemed harsh and I appeared to be one of those "dicks" but shouldnt one want to know as much as possible before they start experimenting with Low Alitiude Parachute Deployment Science? Sorry for being a dick
