Being a Responsible Seller
GravityGirl replied to karenmeal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although I surely don't want to get sued, that is not my primary motivation for restricting my gear sales to qualified jumpers. I personally would feel partly responsible if I knowingly sold a high performance parachute to an underqualified jumper. This is my personal choice. I educate myself and others as much as I can. Sometimes saying, "No" is a crystal clear indication that what someone is trying to buy an inappropriate canopy. In fact for the one customer who "did it" anyways without me, I have dozens more who think, "Holy shit! She is giving up a $2,000.00 sale because she is afraid I'll get hurt!" And that person who re-evaluates their choices, makes it all worth while. I fully intend to keep my customers around for a long time, so they can buy from me time and time again! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
I think gender neutral bathrooms are a great idea. But not for the reasons being debated here. How about the Dad who has to take is 4 year old daughter to the bathroom? She either has to watch men in the urinals or listen to women scream as her father walks her into the ladies room. A bathroom is a bathroom. Put those urinals in a private place and take those little Senor and Senorita signs off the door! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Being a Responsible Seller
GravityGirl replied to karenmeal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's funny Bill. I know who you are talking about. As for the original question, under a certain size canopy and for all high performance canopies, I pre-qualify the sale. I have called DZOs, S&T As, Riggers, Etc. I have on many occassions refuse a sale. And everytime I feel myself slipping an becoming more relaxed reality shoots me a good reminder that I am on the right track. The most vivid story is as follows if you care to read this far: Jumper X has bought every one of his canopies from me so far. The last one was on the fence of my comfort level. It was a Sabre 135. A few months later he calls to let me know he is ready for a Stiletto 120. We talk at length. I say no. Next weekend Jumper X demos one at another drop zone. He breaks his back and is paralized from the waist down. After a few years of therapy he is able to walk with assistance. But he still calls me from time to time to let me know that he wishes he had listened. I feel horrible for what he did to himself. But I don't know how I could deal, if it was my who sent him that canopy that he was most definately not ready for. Every time is sell a parachute, I think about that incident. And refusing sales doesn't seem to hurt my business any. In fact, the same customers I turn down are still my very loyal customers, right B.S.? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! I better send it to your rigger this week. It's starting act all wild and out of control. I don't want to be responsible for anything it might do! I guess that trip to Vegas is going to have to wait. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I've been sitting here walking down memory lane thinking of a friend I lost 7 years ago today. I didn't even realize that Holly died five years and one day after that. On Saturday, I found a crystal that Holly had given me. She wore it on every AFF jump and held it tight in her hand all the way to altitude. During her final gear check it was our ritual for me to finish the gear check by tucking her crystal securely into her jumpsuit. When I graduated her, she took that chrystal off her neck and put it around mine. She said that she didn't need it anymore since I had given her wings. You could say my heart aches. But that might be an understatement. Her chrystal is sitting in a box on my windowsill with a special part of my friend Seth. Ironic.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! That was the worst year of my life. Jerry left right after Seth. And that wasn't the end to the madness that summer. I love seeing you every year Oliva. Look forward to Rantoul this year. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

If you are a mid-range canopy pilot then the Katana is not for you anyways. So far you seem to be the only one I have heard to be "disgusted with PDs marketing strategies." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Don't get too excited over a good deal that's a bad deal. There are always tons of good deals that come along. It's important to know what you want and need, then you'll really know a good deal when you see it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Sounds like you are trying to plan a rig for many future canopies to come. That is not the best train of thought. I would suggest finding a container for what you want to put in it now, plus one downsize. So it should fit a 150 snug, so you can downsize to a 135 later. Once you get down lower than a 135 you will be on a heavily loaded canopy, possibly high performance. At that point it is VERY important to have a snug fitting container to give you the best openings. So my point is. Try not to project too far. If the container you are looking at is a good deal now and you maintain it, it will be a good deal when you resell it to get a smaller one. IMHO, this container is not what you should be looking at. It seems too big for what you are projecting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

So it is. But I didn't take it. Maybe he took it off for safety reasons. Hey Michael! I forgot that disclaimer. Please be carefull when opening a beer with your new hook knife.... ..... you might spill your beer! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

If anyone blows anymore sunshine up my butt, I'll never have to pay for another ride to altitude again!!!!! Um. I mean. Shucks. THanks guys. And Michael, if I knew you were that cute in person I'ld have thrown in a free t-shirts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Yup, yup. When we used to fly Manta 288s for ALL students, I watched a students canopy fold in half about 50 feet off the deck. I have that on video. She was about 115 lbs. It was freeky to say the least. It reinflated for her just in time for me to say, "Flare, flare, flare." Icky. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Since there is a factory imposed minimum sale price on the Cypres2, you will find most legitimate dealers all selling them for around the same price. Your best bet is to shop local. This should insure the best service in the event you have a return or other issue with your unit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
