  1. When I was young I learned something that I really have never been able to disprove, and so it is my interpretation of true love. Love is a comittment There are a lot of manifestations of love, that might also be manifestations of like and lust. But Love is a comittment. I think of love and true love almost the same...something selfless. When you love someone, it means that you will always be there, you are always more worried about their well-being than yours. It means divorce is not a word in our vocabulary, it means you always talk it out before you go to sleep. It means you daydream of spending weekends together, you would do anything to see them smile. You would compromise almost everything not to see them cry. Bottom line: it means you commit to them, selflishly, totally, sweetly, eternally. That is just my definition. I guess some people achieve that in varying degrees. But I think if more people thought of it as a commitment before they said it, maybe marriages would have different outcomes. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  8. Dude that is awesome. I have always wanted to do that (see my nick
  9. Sorry man. The code is totally original from the CNN page, I think. I use a different browser, Crazy Browser, and I did not get a single one. For the other posts, I know the pics suck, like I said, it is for a coworker that is paranoid (because this goes on ALL the time at work) and this is the only shot we have of him.
  10. I must have missed those in my 9 months sebatical
  11. I was thinking though, that maybe a photoshop thread periodically on here would do really good? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  12. just emailed you the original jpgs. My buddy deleted the .psd All I did was edit the HTML to put it in the 'cnn' page. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  13. Really? photoshopped? Naahh Yeah, I know it is a harsh one, but the picture sucked. This guy is super paranoid about it, so we worked hard to get anything on him. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  14. Well, I want to submit this to FARK, but there is no guarantee it will make it on. So I figured I would post here, and see if you all want to play with it. http://www.cst.net/~spc/eltonforever.html This has already rattled my coworker (on the right)
  15. Not to resurrect a dead horse, but I thought of this thread today. I visited the AT&T co-loc in Allen, and it had one of those cute little no guns stickers with the words "It is unlawful to carry a firearm on these premisses" I mentioned to my manager about the sign, but his response was the words "Penal Code" made him nervous
  16. I think this was in a thread a while back, or maybe on /. Very neat stuff. I wish that film was coming anywhere near me. He cut away at 2K, but they say the landing of the chute was very gentle, he probably could have ridden it in. http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/awakening101/davinci-chute.html http://exn.ca/stories/2000/06/27/56.asp -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

I still think one of the more memorable quotes for a war movie is from Blackhawk Down. Toward, one of the men is grabbing food and ammo and going back out. "There are still men out there" In a short conversation, he says, "You know when I am back home, people ask me 'Why do you do it man, are you some kind of war junkie?' You know I dont say a damned thing, because the wouldn't understand. It is about the man next to you, and in the end that is all that it is about." That was paraphrased, but that really sticks with me. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  20. Kev, I am pretty impressed that you are a 'liberal' and have the arguments that you do. I think big difference here is where everyone is drawing lines, and what they think are logical boundaries. Honestly, I agree with most of yours. A few other quotes not to be left out: more subtle I gotta get some work done... -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  21. Alright, we have some middle ground. As I mentioned before, I think a lot of gun owners are very cautious evaluting restrictions because of cases in the past where they have been knowingly abused to help confiscate guns. I dont think we are all opposed, maybe just very cautionary and interested in the reasoning behind it. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  22. While qouting their own website might not be such good proof, I would like to point this out: I think that is excellent. And I would like to know why every parent could not teach their kid the same thing? As mentioned before a lot of problems in America right now are due to lack of responsibility followed by lack of accountability. A lot of this is in the parental arena. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  23. See Justin, we agree on this! You said it yourself, stricter punishment. Apply this logic to gun control. By the way I am a Harley rider, and I would have not problem with people being required to ride a moped of motorcycle for one year, then maybe they would see us after that. I think the penalty for DUI should be HUGE. See....same logic, big penalty, people don't want to do it. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  24. Okay, I am not necessarily against any of those things, in certain context. But all but of those still rely on personal responsibility. Trigger locks: you cannot effectively carry a gun with one on, so that remains a measure to take at home. Which is fine with me, but how do you enforce it? You probably will not be able to until a crime occurs. But according to past argument, that does not matter, because you are interested in safety not on conviction after the crime. Gun safes: exact same issue as above. But as a matter of fact, both issues are already covered by legal penalty, even as listed by anti gun site: So, once again we these are already legally addressed. To buy a gun a federal background check is required. That replaced the waiting period nationally in 1994. I suppose that I would not be automatically opposed to state background checks as well as waiting periods. I have not seen any real debate about them. But removing the waiting period was a national decision in favor of the FBI background check. So, my response would be if you prosecute the law I mentioned above for making accessible, if you prosecute that strongly enough it is a deterant. I think one of the main difference in how these two sides view the argument is deterant. Just look at it open mindedly for minute and let me explain. Break it down to human nature. We are all human and at some point we have negative or ethically wrong desires. The severity of these varies by the person, but I think it would be safe to say we have all thought of things we would not do because of the consequences. As a young kid you did not do things because of the consequences inflicted by your parents, as you grew the consquences shifted more to a natural or government imposed nature. Many of us would not work as much or go to school as much if there were not consequences. In all honesty, I would even attempt to say that I went to all my classes because i wanted to learn. So the general theory is that consequences deter you from actions. For criminal activity, this theory becomes very important. For people that for seem reason are not in cooperation with society's ethics, the government imposes a punishment system that adds the consquences that might not be present in their consciense. This is the very base of all criminal law. The worse the punishment, the less likely you are to commit the act. Now, apply that theory to gun control. If you punish someone strongly enough for allowing minors access to gun, there will be a sufficient deterant from doing so. The same applies to criminals. If you raise the possibility of getting shot committing a crime, the motivation to commit drops, it is simple human survival instinct. At some point hopefully, you rarely need a gun, because the knowledge it may be present is enough. So, if you have other measures to propose, I am willing to consider them, seriously. I just feel that in and of itself that will never be enough. We have to get tough with the law we already have, BOTH on gun owners and criminals alike. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
