    I'll not argue the point of right or wrong, just the legality. In this state, it has been legislated that the union bargans for all 'represented workers' that are covered by the contract. ie Union X bargans for a contract that says all workers get 2 weeks vacation, health benefits, and must be pad according to scale. The employer is prohibited from hiring anyone and providing pay and benifits different than that negotiated by the union. Therefore (the argument is) that you have benifited from the unions negotiations, whether you ar ea member or not. As stated, you don't actually have to join the union, you just have to pay the dues. It is legal because the legislature says it is. There have been many attempts to chage this over the years but all have failed. illegible usually

    Not quite an exact take. Washington is NOT a right to work state. Legally, a union can require that all 'represented' workers (as agreed by contract) pay dues to the union. Unless things have changed, there is no requirement to join the union, just pay the $$. It is legal, by definition as it's spelled out in state law. Your example is sort-of applicable as no one is forced to work for the state, it is a voluntary position. There are DZ's (mine's one) that DO require USPA membership for all jumpers (students excepted). The DZ can't force you to join USPA , but can prohibit you from jumping there unless you do. I wish someone would actually get down to making a camera just for us, I know the tech exists, it's just getting it into a nice small package that can be mounted and remotely operated. The camera takes 640x480 video at 30 fps *not too bad* and can take 5mp stills at the same time. unfortunately, no remote illegible usually

    Safety doesn't necessarily mean more people in the sport. That aside, the main drawback is money. It's a very expensive sport. I can't really see Windtunnels drawing people to the sport, just to the tunnels. Maybe we'll just see a bunch of tunnels and fewer DZ's illegible usually

    How about on building a few new highways to ease congestion, rebuilding some of the bridges that are falling apart in this country and educating our children. Maybe a few million on health care and a REAL prescription drug plan for those on medicare? I am not a fan of entitlement programs but there are a lot of capital improvements that are required to maintain our own infrastructure. I can't believe that anyone could still say that it was a good investment to invade Iraq. illegible usually

    Not a reply specifically to you Rhonda, but to the last post on the thread. One thing that I think everyone tends to overlook in all of their opposition to the death penalty is the simple fact that everyone dies. No one gets out alive. Some people IMHO deserve to exit sooner than others. Individuals that choose to bring misery and death to others I think are at the top of the list for an early exit. For those of you against the death penalty, try placing your compassion with those who truely deserve it. illegible usually

    Without a doubt they meet the definition of terrorist. If we can outlaw the ELF, surely we can take the same actions against those that threaten to burn down a city, kill many, and destroy property just to prevent the lawful (right or not) execution of a POS. illegible usually

    I saw that. The reason stated for the ban was that there were too many shootings involving handguns. Given Canada's current regulations, I'd bet you a weeks worth of beer that NONE of the referenced killings involved 'legal' firearms. Making them illegal again won't change that... illegible usually
