  1. I mean coded to mean the lines of code and the way they are maintained. Open source by its very nature is more securely coded for exactly the the reasons you mention. "Better maintained, faster bug fixes, faster security patches." Exactly. Software product are no longer (virtually) static, you update most of them constantly. Then you get to the situation, as recently with the whole Sony rootkit debacle, where people are afraid of releasing information due to DMCA/copyright reasons. "This isn't an iron lung, people. 2. Weird, I've never had issues with this site or the focus thing. As for the sites not working thats down to people not coding to standards. Remember, MS are like the Underpant Gnomes but they have 4 steps and know what they all are. Embrace, extend, break, profit! Btw I do use some MS products and make my living supporting a lot of them, I just dont believe that they are always the best solution to the problem. "This isn't an iron lung, people. 3. I love the extensions and themes you can install, just get it how you like. Also for websites that are coded specificaly for IE you can install an extension that runs an IE in a seperate tab (if you change the UA string). "This isn't an iron lung, people. 4. A recent post re difficulties with IE made me realise I haven't seen much evangilising about Firefox here. Its more secure, free (as in speech and beer) and what all the cool kids are using.
  5. Firefox is a different browser. The ways its coded it is more secure than IE (no active x for a start) and its free. I reccoemned everyone uses it. Only a 5mb download from mozilla.com. As to your problem I'd probably be right in front of your PC to diagnose, you could try re-installing IE again. I've heard of this fixing this before. "This isn't an iron lung, people. 6. Do they just time out, giving a 404 - site not found error or is there a specific error code given? Also try downloading Firefox and using that to see if its an IE specific problem or something else. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  7. What browser? "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  8. I was there to watch the last record, so sorry I wasn't there this time. You guys kick ass. Very impressive.
  9. Maybe we should make a similar thing to USPA GMs. If you're a commercial DZ you pay bigger fees. Maybe based on the amount of tandems you do each year? "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  10. I know you won't let the older guys pick on you. Do you think that DZ owners/directors should be allowed to be on the board of the organistion that regulates them? Or is it inevitable that with the small group of us in the UK that jump? You've probably got my vote, I think you've done ok, but I'd be interested in your response... 12. Why should we vote for you? Any reasons, you know, like what you'll do for BPA members etc? Kinda need more reasons than I know your name from here. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  13. For local office. Anyone got ideas or tips? Will be going mostly liberterian but with an agenda to resolve oncoming pension/health crisis. BTW This is for the UK. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave

  17. You don't amuse me, Ian. You're boring. You think you're original, but I can go back ten or more years and find someone else who did it first. That's all. You just don't amuse me. rl RAOTFLMAO Hey Ian you make me laugh mate and Rhonda you make me laugh too with your gothic avatar with such a happy and welcoming face. It dont hurt to smile Since you started posting Ian, I have done nothing but laugh at your posts. Thanks. BTW I think your posts are worthless too but hey it dont make them any less funny. Maybe some people dont get the sarcastic humor of British people. Strange how we can laugh at the bad things in life eh? I reckon people are more worried about how much competition you are in the PW'ing stakes. 15.8 posts per day!!!! Youre almost up with Clay's 18.8 posts per day. What he said. Check out Ian's reply to johnrich's Scorpions post. Pissed me pants. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  18. I like 16 jump wonders better than skygods I like Ian's sense of humour, makes me giggle 90% of time. He isn't a troll, he's a wind up merchant. And drunk. A lot. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  19. I scored average for a bloke. One thing that got me was that the split the £50. Logically the other person should accept whatever you demand. Unless they agree then they neither of you would get anything. SO I demanded £49 thinking that if I was on the otherside I'd be happier with £1 than nothing. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  20. Anyone else see this, think of the lawsuits that are going on, remember that threads from this website have been mentioned in the lawsuit? Fishing expedition? "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave

  24. This is the part I don't understand.... When they stuck the metal in me in the first placethey stick an IV morphine thing in to which I could control myself. Apart from getting in the way when I got the nurses to move my bed to the smoking area I discovered, rather disapointingly that morphine sulfate makes me feel like puking I prefer my opiates unrefined "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave
  25. I got the infection because I came off my mountain bike and scraped all the skin off one pin and a bit off the plate were poking out . Even though I rinsed it well and scrubbed it clean something nasty got in behind the plate. Bloody swelled up like a bastard over a couple of days and immobilized my ankle so I couldn't walk. That actually hurt more than the removal of the pins. Luckily due to our excellent health service here in Jersey I went in to the hospital the afternoon of seeing the doc, had the op that evening - and it didn't cost me a penny.
