    I didn't even consider voting for him, but I actually started to believe that he would be more centrist. I thought "change" and "bipartisanship" might actually happen. Well, we're seeing the same old liberal tax-and-spend (and spend and spend). That surely isn't "change." Any hope in bipartisanship went out the window when he strong-armed the stimulus througyh congress with fewer than a handful of republicans. My muted optiimism is quickly turning to sheer terror.     Exactly. What people don't seem to understand is THER'S NOTHING WRONG with making a profit, even if it was 100% ROI, or more. Say I'm selling gumballs, and they cost me 1 cent each. If I want to (try to) sell them for $1 each, then so be it. And if people actually buy them, then great for me. Now if I got all of the gumball sellers together, and we decided that we were all going to raise our prices to $1 per gumball, then that's collusion, which would be illegal. Now let's not split hairs here and say that we NEED oil, but we don't NEED gumballs. I was just looking for a simple illustration. Also, some may argue that we don't NEED oil and its products, we just choose to use them because of a lack of the lack of economically feasible alternatives. The higher the price of oil goes, the more feasible some of the alternatives are. /rant There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

    The last I checked, in California, you couldn't use Jury Nullification. On the other hand, the last time I was called for jury duty, I used that to get out of serving. When questioned, I just stated that this particular case was one that I would see using Jury Nullification (even though by law, I couldn't). I was immediately released from jury duty.     I've watched it for a couple of years now -- ever since my co-workers said I was just like House (not including the drug use.) After watching it, I agree that my at-work personality is a lot like his... I agree with the person that said that Olivia Wilde is hot -- the fact that she makes out with chicks on the show is a big plus. There are battered women?     I read your post yesterday, and for some reason, a solution popped into my head last night. If you decide to go forward with this, you can go to a "person-to-person" lending site and get the money. One example is www.prosper.com You set up an account, and post your loan needs, and people bid on it. I haven't ever used any of these sites, but I have read good things about Prosper.     I drove the 91 freeway home from Perris on Saturday, apparently just before they closed it. At one point, both sides of the freeway were on fire, and it felt like I was driving through a tunnel.     Raising taxes on the higher income people is bullsh!t. The top 1 percent of wage earners pay over 39 percent of all taxes. For the most recent numbers I could find, the top 1 percent of wage earners pay about 13 times as much in taxes as the entire bottom 50 percent. People who think that us in the top tax brackets have these magic "loopholes" are deluded. My only tax deductions are state taxes (which are very high in California), and charitable contributions (I don't have mortgage interest.) Because of the AMT, I can't even deduct all of my state taxes. It's safe for the politicians to pick on the top wage earners because, by definition, there aren't a lot of them. It really burns me to know that if I want to work harder, and make another buck, HALF of it will go to taxes. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

    Wow, I didn't know there was a DZ in Superior. Growing up, the drinking age for Wisconsin was only 18, so we'd drive over the bridge from Minnesota into Superior for some legal drinking. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
