  1. I'm in the fusion club too. C3-C4 & C5-C6. My doc didn't know anything about skydiving, so he made me wait 6 months before jumping. I've been back jumping for a year now with no problems. The levels above and below the fusion do experience more stress in general because one section of your spine no longer bends. That is one of the risks of any fusion greater than normal chance of neededing another fusion in the future. I know someone who has had 2 in his cervical spine, and another who has had 3 in his lumbar spine. My suggestino is you give it 6 months to heal, get some new x-rays, and find another surgeon to clear you. Obviously, you can jump without clearance, but I'd want to make sure there was nothing unique about my situation. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  3. Field sobriety tests are ridiculous. There is no "baseline". How do they know if I can walk a strait line even completely sober, so I'd never take such a test. The accuracy of breathalizers are now being questioned more than ever, and I don't think they should force someone to take a blood test. But before you civil libertarians cheer, read on... I do believe that the states should have you sign a document (implied consent) that says that if you are stopped, and suspected of being under the influence, and refuse a blood / breath test, then you lose your license. 6 to 12 months for the first offense, and up from there. If you don't like it, then don't drive. Driving is a privilege, not a right. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

    IRS

"TIN/DLN" is your Taxpayer Identification Number, which is usually your social security number. It can be other numbers for businesses. EIN (Employer Identification Number) is how the IRS tracks the particular employer. If you need it, and don't know it, you'd have to get it from the company if they're still around. I'm sure the IRS can give it to you also, but it may be a hassle. I haven't had to get W2's from the IRS, but I did get copies of old tax returns. It was fairly painless as I remember. 6. It's only a matter of time before someone you know dies or is seriously injured in this sport. The first one for me was a cameraman at the DZ I did my first 100 jumps at. It was tough to hear, but I didn't consider quitting the sport. Since that time, I've known another 10 or so who have died and a few more with serious injuries. A couple of thoughts: 1) I know the risks in the sport, and I know how safe the equipment is. To me, the sport is safe. 2) I've gotten so much out of skydiving that, to me, if I end up dying as a result of doing it, it would have been worth it. There are battered women? 9. What would you call them then, mindless drones willing to go along with the program laid out by their religious zealot leaders? Because that's kinda the only two options here. I voted for prop 8 because I really dislike San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom's arrogance, and when I saw him talking about same-sex marriage, saying it was going to happen "whether ya like it or not!", my vote was cemented. It probably would have been different had he not lended his support. So, I don't think I'm a bigot, and "religious zealot leaders" had nothing to do with my vote. There are battered women? 10. Wow, I agree with Quade for the first time... [Not really, I guess, but the quote still applies.] The problem in California are the people suckling at the teat of this welfare state. Come from Latin / Central America, have babies which are automatically citizens. Get free medical care, food stamps, education, etc. Now don't think I'm just picking on the illegals. There are plenty of others with a hand out. T he Dems who control the state legislature never met an entitlement that they didn't like. They (and Arnold) have spent themselves into such a hole that even after passing the largest tax increase ever in February, they're still billions in the hole, and want more taxes. Someone who makes good money will sure look at that before moving here, and those who are a drain on the system will continue to arrive in droves. There are battered women? "That's what you have to do if you want the car" replies dad. "Ok" the daughter says, and goes down on him. "Eew, you dick tastes like shit" says the girl. 14. I've had a Sabre 1, Sabre2, and Spectre. The Sabres were good, but sometimes smacked me on opening. I bought the Spectre for the soft openings, but I wasn't happy with the landings, especially the low wind/down wind ones. I just couldn't get it to level out during the flare so I could burn off speed. The Storm gives me everything I want/need in a canopy. The openings are soft, AND CONSISTENT. Even with a late 90 onto a downwind final, I was able to stand it up without even having to run it out. Both toggle and rear riser turns are responsive. If you get one, the brake lines may seem long. Resist the urge to shorten them until you've jumped it a number of times. They are long by design, and while they're much longer than anything I've jumped before, I feel no need to shorten them at all.
  15. Yes, once when I was in China, and I think one other time here in the U.S. Both thought I was the same person. I think it was Tom Green... Not necessarily a compliment. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  17. From: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090320/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_budget "The Congressional Budget Office figures released Friday predict Obama's budget will produce $9.3 trillion worth of red ink over 2010-2019. That's $2.3 trillion worse than the administration predicted in its budget just last month." Geez, I hate to see what it is by next month... "...the White House insisted Friday that the flood of red ink won't swamp its costly agenda." Now before you reply, read the article. They administration has already blamed it on Bush. 18. Nobody dislikes this guy (B.O.) more than I do, and I was hoping to find something in what he said to be upset about, but I just can't. I saw the clip from Leno, and I didn't see anything that bad. I think this is just a matter of trying to come up with something else to disparage him about. C'mon folks... He'll be giving us TONS of ones worse than this. Save your breath for them. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  19. I can't see that those events will generate much interest. The majority of the voters wanted to put in a man, and a party who are determined to make a huge government funded by big tax increases. In an interview with CNN's John Roberts, (and this is a quote), "He told Roberts high taxes were in the best interest of the American economy." My wonderful state of California feels the same way. They've elected a legislature of around 60% Democrats who, along with a couple of Republicans and a so-called Republican governor recently passed about 13 billion dollars in new taxes (can you say 10% sales tax?). These, along with spending cuts, and budget sleight-of-hand were to eliminate the $42 billion deficit. Less than a month after that budget was passed, the budget analysts have already said that they were already $8 billion short. Why is there such a deficit? Because in the 4 years since Schwarzenegger was elected, overall spending has soared 40% in the state. [/rant/ There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  21. The problem is that if there is any extra money coming in, the politicians find "recurring" ways to spend it. That is, even though it's a one-time surplus, they put things into place that require funding every yeat. State spending has increased 40 percent since Arnold took office. Now when they have to cut back, everyone is protesting it as unfair. I wish it were as easy as saying "you can't spend more than you take in." If the budget shortfall is 10 percent, then there is a 10-percent across-the-board cut on the budget. There are too many people with their hands out. The SEIU union just got an increase in pension benefits while they got a reduction in contributions. Increasing taxes the way they did is idiotic. California has 10%+ unemployment, and foreclosure rates are among the highest in the nation. Doubling the car tax hits everyone, employed or not. Raising the sales tax just makes buying from out-of-state internet stores more appealing, and ultimately harming the brick-and-morter stores here. I believe they even reduced a per-child credit, which once again hits everyone hard. Hey, but if you're an illegal immigrant, the state will subsidize your college tuition by giving you in-state tuition rates. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  22. My rigger also is my packer at the DZ, so I EXPECT him to repack my main when he does the reserver. Even if my rigger wasn't my packer, I'd let him pack the main too. Heck, he knows a lot more about parachutes than I do. There have been times with other riggers where they say they'll charge me $20 or $30 to repack the main. I say "forget it." Wall Street Journal Article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123604419092515347.html# I know it's blasphemous to say, but I'm getting the feeling that his standing as The Messiah might be short lived.
