From the time I spent looking at the files, I figured they were a proprietary format and/or some sort of hybrid. There is a header on all of the files that is in a (human) readable format. I thought that if I stripped off those bytes, the remainder of the file would be in some "standard" image format. If that were the case, I had hoped that someone could figure out the format. I could write the app to do the conversion once I knew what I was dealing with. I just offered the c-note to see if someone would recognize the format. There are battered women? By “standard”, I mean .jpg, .bmp, .tiff, etc. Hints: The file contains a scanned or faxed image, which is stored on Unix, and can be viewed by a Windows client for an application called “Resumix.” I have FTP’d the file in both binary and ASCII. Looking at the file in hex, it looks like it may be a hybrid format. The directory that the files are in is protected. The user id is “Geek”, and the password is the initials (in upper case) of the U.S. governing body for our sport. I won’t make it a “clicky” because I don’t want the ‘bots picking it up. I also won’t attach them here because I want to get rid of them when it’s figured out. I've been wearing Ortho-K lenses for about 15 years. I think it's the greatest thing. I can go 24-48 hours without the lenses, and still have nearly 20-20 vision. For your specific questions, here are my answers: It doesn't take much time to put them in (seconds), but you do need to spend a couple of minutes (maybe one) cleaning them after you take them out. It will take you a while to get used to them. The first time I put them in, I thought I had boulders in my eyes. I'd suggest wearing them for shorter times during the day until you get comfortable with them. Now I usually can't even tell that they're in. Again, my vision is good for 24-48 hours or more after I take them out. Interesting reading others' experiences. I have an appt with a neuro in about 3 weeks for similar issues. I know at least two other skydivers who have had fusions. One was in the c-spine, and the other was lumbar. In both cases, they are going back for further fusions now. As stated earlier, one fusion usually puts pressure on the vertebrae on either side of it, eventually requiring further fusions. I'll keep watching this thread, and post my surgeon's recommendations. Oh, also, as the one nurse said, putting off surgery for as long as possible seems to be the recommendation of people "in the know." My wife worked as a Physician Assistant in a pain management clinic, and she said the majority of their patients where from failed back surgeries. There are battered women? I know 3 people who are still living today because of them. Two of those people had more than 3,000 jumps when they were saved. The other was just off student status. On the other hand, I no nobody personally who has been injured or killed due to a msifire. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, I have just never seen it. Probably 99 percent of my jumps have been with an AAD. I'm not afraid to jump without one, but I prefer the safety. The only card I have with a fee is my card that gets me frequent flier miles. For $50 a year, I get 40,000 or 50,000 miles, so that's two flights for $50. I do have an Amex card that gets miles with no fee, but that's my business card, and I don't use it nearly as much as the personal card. Re: "I'm a racist and hate everybody." When I was in jury duty earlier this year, a guy got up and and said something similar (the defendant was black.) The judge got pissed, and told him to "wait outside." He then asked if any of the rest of us if we were going to "pull something like that." He went on to explain that he had heard them all (too many to go into here.) Anyway, we later found out that the judge made the guy report to the jury room for the next week. Oh, here in Los Angeles County, we have a "1-day or 1-trial" system. You are on call, and if you get called in, and don't get seated on a jury that first day, you're done (with some exceptions.) Due to that rule, it's almost impossible get get excused. The case that they were picking a jury for was a murder case. I get paid by the hour, so I didn't want to be on that jury.
