Dome slider for hard openning canopy???
phoenixlpr replied to sovietskee's topic in Gear and Rigging
Very well done! Nice work! -
I deploy my Triathlon 160 from full wingsuit flight. I got no bruises, pain or what so ever...
-
And the harness can move around you easier. I've read about a case when someone got serious trouble to deploy reserve from a twisted harness....

Opinions on new jumper with digital altimeter?
phoenixlpr replied to jrcolo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Have you experienced it? I would not let things develop from bad to critical. Anyway there is a good point that it could be easier to read an analog in high stress situation. -

You just contradict with yourself. You can get your info refined from reading the analog clock. You can tell that if you have time or not by a blink or you can read you altitude with a look. There is only on way to read digital display: read and understand the numbers. You are drifting. Analog and digital readout is studied in ergonomics and psychology, it has nothing to do with computers or etc. Anyway you might have other problems reading your digital displays(LCD) like polarized sunglasses, flare from the sun ..etc. Analog altimeter is much better for freefall. -
I had a Garmin Geko 301. I used with a cheap USB-Serial converter without any problem. I suspect the converter can be broken. Garmin usually using only the main data lines on the serial interface.

Than try a Heatwave or Cobalt too.

I jump with Neptune and Optima. I cross check them when Optima arms itself at 300m. They have different hardware and different software. They might also have some difference in altitude indicated: 10-30m. I can land without swooping or abort higher if something goes bad.
-
I believe that most people with high jump number learnt swooping without any digital gadget. I do respect them. You may call me impatient, but I do not want to go that way. I use digital gadgets as guides as long as I need them. Just remember those bounced without proper tools and techniques.
-
So why do you want to have it? Is that because its a good deal? Tool for the purpose? What would be your purpose?
-
I guess you know what to do if things are not good enough anymore. I'd rather about than crash. I do not think this discipline is about pushing the limit, rather holding yourself back.... Swooping is optional, landing is not.
-
For competition a hard shell helmet is a requirement. Depending on the plane and exit you can hurt yourself even before landing, so that is not a bad idea. I guess most of the open face helmet can meet these requirements.

Skills do not appear just by themself. The safest way to learn high speed landings is controlling as many aspect of the landing as it is possible, doing consistent turn and initiating from the very same altitude. Key to success is making a good setup and lean the picture and angle little by little on the process. You have to have the set of tools how to abort to turn in any phase. Your eyes can not tell you high high you are, how has your canopy recover. You have to use instruments in order to have consistent setup and you have to use you eyes and instincts when to bail out and abort the turn. Is that because they had those? Was it a piloting error? I think it was, just like the video in this thread. Its a nice example of target fixation. IMHO its not a question to use a digital visual and digital audible altimeter for learning to swoop but a must.

Stict to analogs. They are way faster to read. -
Disagree. Using proper instruments yields to safer jumping. They are helping to build consistent turns. Swoop can be started by beep, but it should be aborted if eyes are calling/screaming. I like my Optima's swoop guide, it helps me concentrate on setup and traffic. Safe Beeeeps!!!

What speed? Air speed or ground speed? With what canopy? How do you define safe?
-
Indication of what? They publish official records only.
-
No surprise! Thank to Sid too!
-
Simple. Do it like this
-
Trust me it was a Wings.
-
Going elliptical? Slower openings, funky openings, a bit lower point of flare, more bottom end flare. One size down? More speed, longer recovery, more sensitive for harness turns.
-
Negative. Bright new Wings H/C, junior jumper with moderate packing skills, she was packing really slow and at least tried to be neat, packed like in da book. You got it right it was inside a a four grommet D-bag.

90's.... what builds more speed, slow and steady, or fast?
phoenixlpr replied to DougH's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You are on the right track. In order to exchange altitude to speed you need time. First of all you have to get your speed back than exceed full flights speed.A fast riser snap not usefull, you can turn 90o in 2sec. To be cont. -
I had over 250 jumps on a Cobalt 135 and demod a Vision 132. Vision felt less stable and required more active piloting than Cobalt. I was flying a Pilot 150 before, than Cobalt 135 felt just natural, like an extension of my body. What else do you consider as flying as bigger? I don't really think that would be a sizing issue. Its a more stable, more rigid: 18 top panels! and more efficient wing. I've just moved on because of the recovery arc is shorter than I'd like to have now. Line-sets. You can order HMA/Vectran line-sets from Slovenia via basetroll.com Try to get a friendly one. . You would love it like I do. Mine is getting funky openings too, I think its a trim/line-set issue. They are cheap, easy to pack thanks to Glevenor and they fly great.

Have you tried to solve this issue on alti-2 forums?
