  1. Wind is not homogeneous. In order to get corrections you would need detailed wind speed measurements with GPS ground speed synchronized.
  2. Disagree.. The main advantage of velo is the capability to maintain the wing efficient with high wingloads....with low wingloads, it might be a little bit more efficient but nothing more. And....openings are a lot worse (velo at 1,3.......how long is it going to take to get the slider down....and how many turns the canopy has time to do during that...) and harder to handle, it costs more, packs bigger etc... I see no reason to jump a velocity at anything less than ~1,8 You have just admitted that Velocity is more efficient wing. I have not stated that could be a good choice. No reason to fly a crossbraced under WL 2.0. More efficient wing - more speed on flare - more bottom end.
  3. Velocity is a more efficient wing than a Sabre. It still would fly better at that load too.
  4. So? If a canopy has broken in it would be organized with only shake. See yourself! So? Whats wrong with that? I pack that way for 500+ jumps. Goes in, goes out that way. Because thats a very important thing...... So? For what? Because you have lack of faith? Even your very best packjob can malfunction next time... Take it easy, its just money. I lost a main once.....
  5. After a full twist lines might be locked. I got a twist, I was working as long as I could than chopped.
  6. At least got some to blame.... Some day you might pack for someone else, try to think about your statement after that. Still cheaper than years of medical expenses or a coffin....
  7. I have seen a neat-picker packer getting confused after having one.
  8. Remember, you have a life saving device on your back. Try to keep yourself in the plane under 300m.
  9. [replyI think that the time spent calmly doing the look, grab, peel, pull is better than madly grabbing at anything and everything trying to get the cutaway off, but who knows I'm not an instructor. Than make sure that you jacket or pants does _not_ interfere with your handles. I'm thinking about zippers, pockets, etc.
  10. Its handy for packing tandems, but no need for sport or student rig.
  11. Demo, demo, demo. Than choose what you like.
  12. Tools for the purpose. What are you looking for?
  13. That might be a reason for one not to use an audible and altimeter from the same manufacturer Than which one do you trust if they don't agree? I don't really use any of them under 100-150m, I trust my eyes only.
  14. Have you ever seen a Sabre oscillating like an accordion?
  15. Its up to -40m in my case. Its usually 5-30m. I have Neptune hw revision D.
  16. I'd say not yet.... Check altitude indicated on Neptune when your Optima start beeping at 305m, check your altitude indicated on Neptune after landing. Do you see negative numbers? I'd rather know the limitations of your instruments. Id choose Optima + Viso if I don't need downloadable logs. Same hardware would work better in pair or at least sharing errors in measurement.
  17. Ask yourself: what do you want from your next canopy.
  18. Based on what? You can fold any airfoil. Its getting academic. See? Thats not the arrow, thats the indian.
  19. What do you think? What makes your canopy stable and flying? Air pressure in cells and tension in lines. Keep maintaining those! Speed keeps your canopy pressurized and line tension keeps it in shape and you in control. If you feel that your lines getting loose because some bump you'd rather apply some breaks to pull it back.
  20. Because the the Neptune/Optima combo works well too. No need to be aggressive... Sure! It nice to do some swooping when your altimeters disagree....
  21. I have a Triathlon with dacron lines. It opens really soft and reliable.
  22. The harness, reserve and its links should be TSO'd or certified.
