  1. I did switch back to standard WS deployment method when I started to jump my Stealth. After I had couple of knotted deployments I switch to full flight deployment. I have not get knotted bridle anymore. Same gear: Triathlon 160, Bird-Man PC with long bridle and leather hackey. I think cleaner air-flow is better on deployment than a huge burble.
  2. For what reason? We want them to learn to pack for themselves. So they are packing Navigators if we have Navigators only. If the canopy is older that's their luck. It takes time but all learn how to pack in the end.
  3. You are so right. It might be different than landing a line-over....
  4. Extra long bridle can cause trouble too.
  5. If you look statistics only we should eat sh1t, some billions of flies can not be wrong. I also jump some canopies which has a reputation. Should i stop jumping those because of bad reviews of other ppl?
  6. MidSummerFlock 2011 a.k.a MidNightFlock when: 1st-3rd of July, 2011 where: Utti, Finland Come and fly with us!
  7. Sure, any time when the weather allows.
  8. I think having a proper 3rd party insurance is more important for the club or for the DZ.
  9. A certain piece is not a standard. I got a Saphire altimeter and 2 different pillow for chest strap mount. You can mount it where 0 point to your toes or 0 points to your head. I prefer the first layout.
  10. Can't wait to read your incident report. Can I be on your ash dive? Seriously I love ash dives. Your negative attitude makes me sick.
  11. Depends on the plane too. I would not risk a low tail, but tail gate would be OK.
  12. UM, Please read post. No where have I said I'm an "excelent canopy pilot." All I have said is I believe I can fly my canopy at my wing loading without harming myself or others. Do your homework! You want to fly an elliptical canopy loaded at 1.5 with 150 jumps. The only way this could approach being a reasonable decision is if you are the best canopy pilot in the world with 150 jumps. How do you think you stack up? The fact that you are not able to do or you do not dare to do something does not mean anything about him. Survival is not just about experience, but also luck and attitude. You might pick up some experience with 250 jump, but that might do a little about your attitude and luck. An extraordinary pilot is one who never has to resort to extraordinary skills to get out of an extraordinary situation.
  13. It was the most popular PD canopy sold back in those days, there could be more imperfect ones. I'd rather jump it before buying.
  14. If your packing technique results in no fewer or no more line twists than others using a different method, what's the advantage? I absolutely agree. We should I start psychopacking by tomorrow so we would not have more linetwist than anyone else.
  15. And that’s fine for you, if you are willing to subject yourself to the additional risk. But should you put it out there as good advice for the younger jumpers to follow? I don’t think so. Sparky There are thing hard to measure like thickness of splitted hair or additional risk. Have I told that any younger jumper should jump at any certain condition? I don't think so. How can they jump anyway because conditions can change to bad in no time and they might take some additional risk too.
  16. Well, we can review this after some years an another 1000 jump....I might not be right, but alive and jumping is enough for me. Well, that reminds me a jump where only a tandem + camera and me was on board. There were 2 free slot, but none was interested.... True: TIs usually the last to give up jumping because of the weather.
  17. There are still jump you just don't want to repeat. I prefer to have a plan than improvising all the way down...
  18. I rarely jump alone, don't you? Our sport might be a group sport. Like anyone else who teaches canopy control. Relax, we do have enough incident report ready for anyone.
  19. Something like: stay in the upwind sector Do not fly over anything you are not willing to land on anticipate the effect of winds on your pattern think about the 10 times rules of turbulence... remember the jump end when your canopy is collected(or even when you back in the packing area), not when your feet touches the ground know your limit of comfort an embrace it keep your eyes open when you fly your canopy, the conditions can be different from take off ...
  20. Sorry, we can not like your canopy. I got 3 Merit openings and 2 Merit landings so far.
  21. Why would I need an USPA form in Finland? I was just sending an accident report form and USPA's was the first one I found online. Pretty sure the Finland club will accept it in a pinch, though. Why do you assume there would not exist any incident reporting form here? FYI: We also got running cold and hot water, electricity and even Internet here. I've considered a dead man walking since I registered here. Competence for me means know and embrace your limits. There could be thing that I can not do or I don't dare to do, but I would not say can't be done.
  22. This answer is for the thread.... A turtle lives long, but I don't want to live like a turtle. I usually willing to jump when there are people willing to jump and the rest is sitting because they think that the wind is too high, the wind is too gusty or the sky is not blue enough.... The landing area is huge where I'm jumping the jump canopies with WL 1.7-2.3. I have not ever flown backward and I can find clean air for landing. Sure its easier to say to sit, than teach how to jump with higher winds.
