“But Die kalte Sonne wondered if this were really so, and needed only 2 mouse clicks to find a recent temperature reconstruction for Greenland’s past (Lecavalier et al. 2017, pdf here). The paper’s Figure 4a shows the temperatures, with the temperature of 1950 at the far right which in paleo-climatology is always meant as “present”. Thus, 11,000 years ago, it was up to 4°C warmer than in 1950 over long periods of thousands of years, and today the warming has been about 1°C since then. Since we can see an ice sheet of 2,850,000 km³ (that is roughly Gt) today, the “point of no return” cannot have been exceeded 10,000 years ago. How does the heading then come about? We take a look at the associated work by King et al. 2020: Is there any talk of an irreversible end of the Greenland ice sheet? From the abstract: “The authors see an acceleration in melting towards the ocean in the period 2000-2005, with not enough snowfall to compensate for the losses. They find a loss of about 500 Gt/year. Only 0.15% of total ice mass Unfortunately, they do not address the highly accurate gravity measurements with satellites in their paper. These data show a linear mass loss of only 275 Gt/year between 2003 and 2019 (with a gap in 2017 and 2018 due to a satellite change), so that in 17 years about 4200 Gt were lost, which is 0.15% of the total sheet. What exactly do they say about the future? Low-fact propaganda This is much more cautious than what is being served up to us as “doomed” with the usual “overconfidence”. A look into the past is enough to unmask the media scream for what it is: low-fact propaganda.“ lets say it again “LOW FACT PROPAGANDA!!” -

Either the temperature has been “adjusted” upward or warming doesn’t lead to more hurricanes. Take your pick -

I’m glad you pointed this out. CAGW theory says we should have more hurricanes as temperatures rise, and as NOAA has illustrated, we have both an increase in temperature and no trend in hurricanes. According to scientific principle this would invalidate this portion of CAGW theory. Apply this sober analysis across the board and one is left with an irrational, blubbering puddle of emotion and not a rational theory. -

It is ironic that on the same day NOAA increases their hurricane forecast, the Atlantic has ZERO disturbances with hurricane potential. (Obviously that can change going forward) -

No, I said we would go with NOAA’s prediction, and NOAA’s prediction changed. I am just staying consistent. -

They DID predict a 90% chance of an average or above average hurricane season. (the average is six hurricanes and three major hurricanes) -

What about the lack of activity in the pacific? Not to mention no discernible trend in Atlantic hurricanes since record keeping began. -

A hurricane is a hurricane. Named storms and dollars of damage are meaningless metrics. BTW what do you think of ZERO typhoons in July and the lack of a trend in Atlantic hurricanes? It seems to run counter to the CAGW narrative. -

NOAA predicted 6-10 Hurricanes with 3-6 major Hurricanes. We’ll go with that. -

This just in.....there were exactly ZERO typhoons in the month of July. First time since the 50’s. So far 2020 hurricane season is a bust, but hang in there Joe there is always September Figure 1: Atlantic tropical storms lasting more than 2 days have not increased in number. Storms lasting less than two days have increased sharply, but this is likely due to better observations. -

How about some good news for a change!!

I didn’t know we were trying to change anybody’s mind, I thought we were sharing good news stories. I thought folks going back to work and businesses staying afloat was a good news story that everyone could agree with, obviously I was wrong. -
The bad sides are before and after that.

Hey, I am not the only person responsible for thread drift. I just posted good new about hard working Americans going back to work. Obviously there are folks on this forum who don’t agree that is gong news. -

You can include Mercedes and the Big Three to that list. The point is those companies HAD major quality issues, Tesla HAS major quality issues. Big difference -

And that is a very rational criteria for choosing an automobile. Thanks for playing.
