I know that nobody likes lockdowns, it’s just that the folks on the left hate them less and are demonstrably more likely to use them. TN and NC being a prime example. I find it ironic that the same folks on the left who claim to hate them overstate their efficacy and champion there use. We now have eighteen pages on this thread demonstrating that observation.

Hardly, I just provided two additional examples. California vs Oklahoma and Tennessee vs North Carolina When I contrasted CA (the state with the most restrictions) to OK (the state with the fewest restrictions) and proved Oklahoma was doing better, I got “well they’re too different to make a valid comparison” So then I did the same analysis with two neighboring states and arrived at the same conclusion. I didn’t move the goalposts, I scored the touchdown, got the two point conversion and spiked the ball in the end zone. BTW I hope you are staying warm in your, not-caused-by-global-warming polar vortex.

Or maybe it was because the first time they hit a roadblock in their career they chalked it up to racism and gave up. Powell and others persevered and made it to the top. That is why the concepts of “white privilege” and “systemic racism” are so pernicious. It gives an excuse for failure. It makes failure easy. Instead of one looking at one’s own opportunities for growth they blame it on a nameless faceless “system”. If systemic racism was a real thing, I doubt we would have a black senator from the home of the confederacy.

All states had a spike during the holidays and a significant drop afterwards. Google Tennessee and COVID and look at the NYTs graph. No business shutdown, no mask mandates, no stay at home order. Compare that to its neighbor North Carolina, it has limited businesses, mandated masks and implemented stay at home measures and its drop in COVID is not nearly as steep as Tennessee’s It should be noted that the Governor of Tennessee is a Republican and the Governor of North Carolina is a Democrat. Again buttressing my argument that lefties like lockdowns more than righties. And look I’m not saying lockdowns are 100% useless, there not. I just agree with the Word Health Organization, that they often cause more harm than good and should not be used as a first line of defense.

Look Bill, I think I have supported my claims, admittedly some better than others. It’s funny how this thread is how lefties like lockdowns more than righties and we have just spent 17 pages proving that to be the case. Lefties have no sense if irony either.

No but you sure put a hurting on logic There ARE traits that predict success, they include but are not limited to: self reliance, competitiveness, work ethic (I left out the Protestant part), objective rational thinking, high valuation of success and wealth, adherence to time schedules, delayed gratification and the nuclear family. Notice I did not mention skin tone.

Wrong! What stands in the way of progress is telling somebody they don’t stand a chance because they’re not white and the deck is stacked against them so why bother even trying. It becomes a poisonous self fulfilling cycle.

Ok enough with Sweden. Let’s get back to the U.S. and compare the most locked down state, California, with the least locked down state, Oklahoma. Deaths per 100,000: Califonia-114 Oklahoma-98 If lockdowns worked as advertised the numbers would be reversed.....but they’re not......so..... BTW California just surpassed New York as the state with the most covid deaths.

You correctly identified population density as a key variable. Sweden has about double the population density as Norway and Finland, so it’s not a valid comparison.

I’m not lying. The numbers speak for themselves. United Kingdom that locked down: deaths per million of population-1750. Running seven day average of deaths per million-67 Sweden which didn’t lock down is 1184 and 24 respectively.

I’ll take a shot. When enough of the population develops antibodies, either through vaccination or exposure to the virus, that the transmission chain is broken. How did I do? BTW cases started dropping before the vaccine was widely available.

Because Florida never went into a hard lockdown, their curve is much flatter. More herd immunity = less of a spike. Take a look at Sweden’s curve and compare it to the UK as a reference.

Let me call “bull shit”. Just what “training course” was this? I spent a little time in the Army (20 years) and have taken hundreds of PT tests and attended several schools (Airborne, Ranger, Pathfinder, Jump Master, and LRS to name a few) and NEVER did I witness that low standard. If that actually did happen (and I doubt it did) all you accomplished was to lower the physical readiness of the unit. Congratulations
