I hear you...any dropzone can be a intimidating enviroment to a newbie...and even to someone with many(not me) jumps..........Skydiving requires a certain attitude...and even though most jumpers are part of a fairly close knit family....its a hard group to break into.....even at my DZ ...a small one..i know most ppl...and have talked to and jumped with most...being a second weekend jumper...im not part of the "group"....newbies can get left out....as can semi regs....(be a personality or be one of the sheep). I've been shy about talking to new comers at my DZ....not wanting to overstep my boundrys..but hell..I love to talk the talk!!....and Im sure there have been a few that have left because of no attn. being piad to them.............But you make a great point!...from now on ..I WILL talk to the lost looking and find someone who can answer all there questions! Blus Skies..and can i get a extra 1000ft from you?

How many jumps did it take you to get your A license?

Took me 30 jumps and 5 years to get my cspa solo....I'm at 33 now and can prob click off my "A" in another 5 jumps, if I ever get to jump before its winter and too freaking cold for the "sane" to jump...thankfully, I'm a little "insane" and will jump when its a wee bit chilly.....I need to do my coached/padycake jumps....cold=less skydivers and more attn from the coaches....I WILL have my A before the new year!!!..(claim will not be endorsed by Crusty Burger Inc) -

If you have the $$$...there is always a way!!!....Ive seen several posts asking about larger ppl finding a DZ to accomodate them...but havent seen a lot of pos feedback....once you get your A lic....there will be no prob in you going solo....just need a bigger rig/canopy...the problem would be in getting started...hopefully one of the regs with infinate more experiance then myself will come and provide you with some helpful info. welcome to the forums and good call on using your reserve....try it once...try it again...then go for that big silver one!!!.....I cant say anything that hasent already been said, besides keep at it...and click your heels together....your legs are harder to keep semetrical(spel) then your upper body....and can cause a nasty flat spin..ask your instructors about it. First Jump! and questions about AFF.

Hey Dr. I cant help with the AFF thingy..I did IAD/PFF...but i can tell you that multiple jumps in a day or weekend will lead to being more comfortable..which in turn..leads to better skills....one jump every 3 weeks or so when starting will hinder your progression....try and arrange it to make at least 2 or 3 jumps per trip....that will be a little pricy doing AFF...but well worth the cost in repeat levels.
