Might I recommend a nice weekend at a race school to help improve your driving skills? Plenty to learn and its always fun! You obvously(spel) have good reflexes and depth perception to swoop....why not transfer those atributes to something that will be fun and help with your driving?

Damn...didnt get to see this thread last week....was working..and getting similar cuts.....nice little slice though....here's how I would deal with it..... curse shit f**k...m*****f**ker....poor a lil peroxide on it wrap it in tape and go back to work....put some polisporin on it when I got home..let it breath(if the bleeding had stopped)...next day at work wrap it in tape again ...repeat

while this may be true for a small deer or a bunnie...I would not recommend it in moose country....them suckers are rather large and can do severe damage to a 18 wheeler let alone a compact car

As a student at a smaller DZ with only F111 skybarges (mostly Manta 288's) avaible to rent....transition to smaller ZP canopies can be difficult compared to larger DZ's.....beg to borrow is the norm...and finding a logical canopy size with a container to fit is near impossible. Here's my situation.....33 jumps,32 stand up landings, decient canopy control on the 288 Mantas,160lbs.....and a huge desire to buy my own rig and get out of the student rigs. I arranged to borrow a Triathlon 190 and was cleared by the S&TA and DZO to try it last year under strict rules/instructions...however.."shit happens" and the season was cut short before I had the chance to jump the 190.......this leaves me here...7 months later with the season about to restart and several jumps on the 288 Manta's before I can even consider asking to try the 190. Most of the advise on checklists and threads dont seem to directly address concerns students at smaller DZ's would have transitioning from F111 to ZP canopies without the logical progressive "down sizing" rigs avaible. I am hoping for useful advice/tips...maybe a modified version of Billvons downsizing list for students in my situation. ie:I perform a full flare on landing....its not overly fast but its not slow either....would staging my flare somewhat be safe and help in getting ready to switch to a ZP canopy? BTW: I just spent well over 2 hours typing a much better post only to loose it when spell checking....this is a pissed off version of the same post written in 5 mins

I can flat pack the student rigs at my DZ...but I am slow and anal about it...which is prob a good thing

Havent tried all the "list" yet....but most of it. I was cleared to borrow another jumpers trialothon 190 and jump it last year..practice pulls and on radio....but weather and some other issues cut the season short Sry to harp on you bill..its been a long off season here...starting to get alittle testy. We dont have the option of renting/demo'ing many different sized canopies here.......its usually ask/beg to borrow gear to downsize into the "sport" canopy thing(I really hate to borrow others shit). What bothers me..is that it seems perfectly acceptible for a AFF student to jump a 1:1 loaded canopy on there 1st/2nd/3rd jump...but for me to downsize to a 1:1 is not aceptable Edited: to look at spelling and say fuck it
-
Jump the manta 288 that im fam with...which is what I will do soon I hope! unsafe equipment??? Edited to add:...what is a good w/l for a student? well...asuming I wont leave my home DZ this summer...which I will...but...lets asume....so how long would you have me stay on the student manta 288's???
-
and what if the next reasonable size isnt avaible???

"* why do people feel that stand up landings by a novice is a good way to judge their piloting skills? I know plenty of great pilots that due to medical conditions can not even walk out a landing and have to PLF each time. " again

I think the poll choices are poor....very poory chosen...the only choice that come close to a real question is the last one...1:1 As a student at a small DZ...the only canopies for rent are manta 288's and larger.....they are very large and forgiving at my weight(160) and I have stood it up for all but one landing(I bounced back up so fast no one saw me fall)...sure I pulled one or two outa my ass
-
Ummm you left IAD off the poll

Not that I have anything against bison....but there is no way in hell I'm getting in C-182 with Morty Its not the size thingy that bothers me...its the possibilty of bufflo farts that scare me
