  1. LOL I just got off the phone with her literally 30 seconds ago. She's scouting out a used canopy for me.
  2. Well, I get a big kick out of RW with old people, I've owned several Racers, and I like to land rounds. I just figured it fit in.... =========Shaun ==========
  3. The bug has been itching at me for a few months now - and I want to get into Classic Accuracy. I think it's the rush of competition or maybe the desire to be a bit different, but this is a dicipline I want to dip my feet into and see if I can take it to the competitive level. It's a challenge though - Where to begin? My dropzone is a Freefly-RW type place where the general idea is to Downsize your canopy. I Have a closet full of gear I will be able to put together a Classic Accuracy Rig - Does anyone have any good resources or know anyone willing to mentor a little (I'm willing to travel..)? Any good advice on a first Accuracy canopy? I'm about 185 out the door... Thanks! =========Shaun ==========
  4. Elizabeth Hurley Catherine Zeta-Jones Jennifer Anniston In that order. All at the same time. =========Shaun ==========
  5. :1:0 Humps. I'm working on finding a good girlfriend. 1 Jump! Hop and pop in low clouds! Whoo-hoo! =========Shaun ==========
  6. Yeah, I agree with the posters here that that 'test' was pretty bogus when you think about it. So, what makes them think that a Prius is going to perform optimally at redline, or as they say, "as fast as it will go." And the other M3 is such that it is able to carry it's weight at that speed without maxing out it's performance envelope. Stoopid. That's like saying my Nissan gets worse gas milage at 100mph than a Formula 1 racer. =========Shaun ==========
  7. Jimmy's version of a "chocolate milkshake" is a raw porterhouse wrapped around ten Hershey bars, and doused in aviation fuel. =========Shaun ==========
  8. Hey, I'm just trying to cheer on my peoples from Kansas. I'll still cheer them on, but don't expect the crowd to do the wave.... =========Shaun ==========
  9. Man, that sounds boring. I've been to a bunch of party and events he's MCed at, and NOTHING exciting, sexy, or suprising has ever happened. Ever. =========Shaun ==========
  10. Yeah! I like the thing too! You know, I've seen a lot of maturity on the part of Airport Security in the last year, I don't think a single one of them would look for an excuse to use it. It's not like it's a power that can be abused. Anyways, about it misfiring, dont' worry about it. Only what, 10% of the population is Elderly or have heart conditions in the first place, so you have a 90% chance of a person just getting mildly annoyed if it went off. =========Shaun ==========
  11. Man, I've see some bull sh*$ in the Washinton Times, but apparantly this idea came from a Senator?!?!? Man, I hope his peoples don't elect him for another round of paranoid leadership. =========Shaun ==========
  12. I'm cheering the attempt on if Allison Harper is involved! If not, I'll still cheer it on to some extent, but I won't paint my face blue and Gripper the Lizzard on my chest or license numbers of the jumper involved on my back or scream cheers from the bleachers. =========Shaun ==========
  13. Agreed. This is a sloopy job on rigging and stuff like that suprises me. Poynters says that a fingertrap needs to be at least 4" long to be self-sustaining, and I can think of lots of closing loops I've made that were less tha that. If the designer applied his 'trick' to smaller rigs, then that strikes me as a major safety concern. =========Shaun ==========
  14. Rape and Sexual crimes have shown no signs on slowing down in 30+ Years. (See "African Crime, Wikipedia). Just be sure to tell the rapists to wear a condom. Education seems to be a big key here... =========Shaun ==========
  15. The author spares no vivid imagery to try to stirr up his readers against him. Whatever. Agree or disagree with his methods, he does have a few good points. Not necessarily tactfully put, but good points indeed. 1. AIDS. Okay, so a good portion of African men infected with AIDS believes that the only cure for it is to have sex (i.e. rape..) a virgin. In some countries, where the infection rate amoung the adult population is touching 35%, it's going to take a miracle to solve the problem. What does Africa have to offer us? Okay, before you blast me for asking such a selfish and heartless question, understand I'm asking it for their own good. Adam Smith figured out a long time ago that countries become rich by specialization and trade. Suprise suprise. The Korean People pulled themselves out of the depts of hell and in 50 years turned themselves into one of the richest, most prosperous countries in the world by working 20 hour days and sacrificing all they had to put their kids through school. What does Africa have that they can use to put their people to work and trade with the world? So far Diamounds seem to be a big hit, except for the hundreds and thousands of arms and hands that are lopped off as they 'trade' them. =========Shaun ==========

  17. Sheesh, as I read this thread, I feel that a lot of the disagreements seem to be stemed more along the lines of those who like dogs in general and those who don't. I think those anti-dog proponents need to take a chill pill. Look, what reason is there a well behaved, potty-trained dog that minds his own business can't come and be with their owners at the dropzone? He'll a normal skydiving community will piss and shit on the landing area more than 10 dogs will! Case and Point: Skydive Kansas and Freefall Express are two great midwest Dropzones. Instead of running kids off, FFE built a playground on the backside of the hanger to help keep kids out of trouble. SDKS did that some too, but I think the kids are getting old enough to manage themselves. In one swoop, the DZO's have not only made their dropzones a more welcoming place to be, but also controlled the problem. =========Shaun ==========
  18. A lot of good points there. Yes, I agree that it looks like two distict pulling/bending events, HOWEVER notice how the bend is in perfect harmony with the grommet size - - - My first guess is that this looks like a case of excessive force on the reserve closing loop. I think they should remove the defective pin, replace it with perhaps an old ripcord, and do a pull-force test. =========Shaun ==========
  19. that was hilarious. I didn't expect that ending... =========Shaun ==========
  20. Yeah, that article is fulla shit. I read it. Once to see what it was about, a second time to do a double-take. At our dropzone, packers serve another purpose that hasn't been mentioned yet. It allows younger jumpers to enter a sport which would be out of the affordable range for many young college students. They are able to subsidize their jumps by packing, and as a dropzone, we are able to throw more students, more tandems, and more fun jumps. The article was false rationale. =========Shaun ==========
  21. I doubt that many of you will see this on the news, but this story has all Wichita stirred up. Full Story Here I think that this version of the story, although abstract, in a way undermines the situation. Cessna, HBC, and Bombardier all have manufacturing facilities down in that area of Mexico. Both Cessna and Leer made upfront promises that no transitions down to Mexico will cost Wichita workers their jobs. Granted, these documents might just show a possibility they explored, but knowing enough abou their corporate environment, I don't think it's the case. We'll see what happens. ... =========Shaun ==========
  22. I have done about 300 reserve A.I.R.'s, and about 1/2 of them are pilot seats (Strong 304's). I've never seen anything that would scare me white or anything that would have 100%not worked, but I've seen a few packjobs that were just sloopy to the point where I just shook my head and wondered what the hell that rigger was thinking... =========Shaun ==========

    fxc ?

I personally won't pack an FXC. Yes, I (unfortunatly) still know of dropzones that use them on their student rigs, and frankly I feel that they are doing their students (customers) a terrible dis-service by not offering that type of gear to them to learn on. I lose a little respect for a DZO that will allow his students to learn on out of date gear. As far as the Astra is concerned, this is another high-horse I could get on. There is nothing wrong with one as Long as you have the updated software versions. it's a good, safe AAD. This may just be personal opinion, but I believe that unit was very undervalued and overlooked by most jumpers because it came out when Cypres was the hottest thing since sliced bread. =========Shaun ==========
  24. That was the best video. Ever. =========Shaun ==========
