You can't have Christmas, but you can have other religions holidays?
pajarito replied to Ron's topic in Speakers Corner
But when it's not unconstitutional, the majority should rule. As is the case. -

So why aren't you walking around naked Kallend? Or at least partially naked? I see you're nice and suited up with a bowtie no less in your avatar. If you find nudity acceptable to the point where you wouldn't care about it in public, why don't you demonstrate and take a stand for your beliefs. I'll bet that would make for an interesting Physics class. I'm glad I wouldn't have to endure it, though. -
That's cool. One state in the US is equivalent to an entire country in Europe. Excellent!

60 years is not that long ago but, speaking for my Grandfather who bled and almost died in it's defense, you're welcome.

Ok...ok... But do also reject the idea that the US is the most generous country (singular) on the planet as I stated (now)?
-
Hmmm.... United States (solo) contributions compared to the combined efforts of every country included in the European Union (25 member countries as of now with 4 more applied and 1 pending application). That sounds fair.
-
Sorry - gotta call you on that. Sure, the japs alone beat you on a pure $ ammount (making the US 2nd)... but when seen on a per capita basis or on a $/GDP basis the US is waaaaay down the list. I guess it's all in how you look at it. We built the Japanese back up so they could become the economic power that they are today. They owe much of their prosperity to the generosity of the US. As do several other European countries. Oh, how soon we forget. Many European countries would be saying "guten Morgen" right now if it weren't for the big bad ole USA. And the per capita comment has such a liberal "give me more of a free handout b/c you've got more money than everybody else" feel to it. Edited to add: Oh...better include the UK in with those potential German speaking countries if the US hadn't have done anything while I'm at it since they might not be considered Europe proper.

Iran will talk with the US about Nukes
pajarito replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
If let go, Iran will turn out to be similar to North Korea. They'll use their capability to hold the world hostage with their threats every few years to get money or power and then they'll settle down. Yet another thug nuisance in the world. More countries will no doubt follow their example if organizations like the UN keep up their "paper tiger", passive, ineffective approach to policy. -
Are you sure about that? Our freedom allows many here to express themselves in ways that their strict religious views do not tolerate. According to many of them, our secular nation is the great satan. I was part of the effort to liberate the Muslims in the Balkans. We support many Muslim nations. The US is the most generous country on the planet. I think the hatred goes back way further and is much deeper seeded than as a result of our foreign policies or our support of Israel. This is nothing new. This isn't all as a result of Bush.

I agree that the parent needs to regulate what his/her child sees on TV and everywhere else. Apparently, however, most in the US do not think that a bunch of men standing around with their dicks hanging out is appropriate for everyone on the public airwaves. Even if it is Greek culture. I personally have no problem with it and I can appreciate Greek culture. I practically lived with the Greek Army contingent in Kosovo for 6 months. However, I don't think my 6 year old is ready for some of that. I'll explain when I think it's appropriate. So, we just disagree on the level of regulation but we agree that it must be regulated by the government. I can live with that. Many here, however, don't believe in regulation at all (i.e. I think PhillyKev). I think that's ridiculous. -
Uh huh...

Just curious. It seems like many of these "free-for-all" attitudes with regard to decency come from people without children. Not in your case, though. Whatever your opinions are regarding the level of what’s appropriate or inappropriate (i.e. dicks hanging out or topless females in public), the “public” airwaves are as open to everyone these days as a statue in the middle of town. That’s why they’re regulated. Since some media show explicit sexual acts on their shows, would you be opposed to a statue depicting such acts in the middle of town for all to see? I don’t know how old your child is (say he/she is 6 like my daughter) but would you feel comfortable walking him/her past it since you’ve probably already discussed sexual intercourse with him/her? How about more perverted acts (i.e. prison sex on HBO’s OZ)? That’s “artistic” expression too. Would your child understand all that since you’ve explained it to them? Do you really think they’re capable of handling shit like that at their age? Sure, they’ll eventually be exposed to the concepts but don’t you think the parent should be able to determine when that is rather than them walking by a window downtown and catching a glimpse on the TV through a shop window? I’m just saying it’s not always a case of the parent not caring and letting the kid do whatever they want. Public airwaves are “public” and, therefore, must be regulated. I mean, just about anything is considered “art” by someone. The “free-for-all” attitude is not a good idea. -

I know, I shouldn't assume that if the parents had educated their kids, they would have understood. The rest of the world did. Yeah...the rest of the world is soooo much better off than the USA. Good luck on that one. Do you have children? -
I'm not so sure that the rules allow you to make personal attacks as long as you put a at the end. I could be wrong.

That's safe for them. Still keeping "Christ" out of Christmas. Dangerous stuff man.
-
Man...some of the things you compare are worlds apart from each other. It always makes me think about your "every aspect of abortion should be legal" comparison to "it's acceptable that kids will be killed as a result of bombing and war."
-
What's the alternative then? Let the hijackers fly the plane into a building not only killing everyone on the plane but thousands more? By the way, I know what you're saying and agree to a point. It is very different shooting at close range. I've had a lot of training in that area and wouldn't be considered the norm. However, I stand by my point at the beginning.

It's all those gun and SUV's man. They're going around killing people "wholesale" all over the place nowadays.

I don't think it's nearly as much about you and me or the people that want to see absolutely no nudity, as you say, as it is about young children and what they might see on "public" television.
