Because I'm his father and I love him. Would you, as a parent, allow your child to continue on a path that you feel is detrimental to him/her without interference? No, it's the decision that best suits him. Like I said, it's not up to me to make him/her accept or reject the message. That's up to God. I can only answer the questions as best I can with what I believe to be true.
-
Or, it’s quite possible that he could continue to go the way I did. Yes, as a father, I’d try and steer him back. I'd love him regardless.
-
No, I was the skeptic. I didn't believe his sincerity at first. I thought he was too young. I was wrong.

The exact day or month is not recorded. So, you're right, no one really knows.

I hope they'll be smart enough to research it, take everything into context, and make informed decisions. Ultimately, however, the desire to become a Christian isn't based on how much you know from the Bible. It comes from God. By the way, my eldest son recently made the decision to become a Christian and be baptized. I'm very proud of him. That decision came not only without any pushing on my part but with a great deal of skepticism. I guess because it took me until I was 28. After much questioning, however, I believe him and I've come to realize that he has much more insight than I gave him credit for. By the way, he's 9 1/2.

With regard to Christianity, I can’t “make” my children accept or reject. That is their decision alone. I, however, am not neutral in what I teach my children is correct when they’re not yet old enough to make informed decisions for themselves. Until they are old enough, it is my job as a parent to guide them in the direction that I think is appropriate and is the best course of action. I can only hope that when they’re older, they will continue to be able to decide wisely for themselves.

Liberal vs. Conservative: The REAL question

The birth of Jesus should be celebrated throughout the year and not just on one day. The exact day or month isn't what's important. It's just highlighted this time of year. We've made it a tradition in my family to bake a birthday cake and explain to our children exactly what we're celebrating and why. We still give gifts but we try and emphasize what Christmas is really all about to them. Personally, I think Easter should be celebrated like Christmas. The ramification of its meaning is just as important (if not more).

I don't think that's really the case. I just think there's a disproportionate amount who post here on dz.com. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Man...partisan politics aside. Rubber stamping death letters is assed up! Shouldn't have anything to do with which political party is represented or if I or anyone else feels like the Democrats or Republicans are being picked on in these forums. This is bigger than that. Whether it was simply an oversight or careless disregard, I don't think it's right. It's a matter of respect. We should all just call it what it is..."fucked up." IN THIS MATTER, Rumsfeld fucked up.

I think Afghanistan is "the forgotten war" nowadays. I'd like to see a movie depicting how a handful of Green Beret teams on horseback organized a resistance and coordinated air support to take down the Al-Qaida strongholds and Taliban government in a matter of weeks. That would be more interesting than how a bunch of Marines in full force steamrolled and pummeled the hell out of Fallujah. What the SF teams did was unprecedented.
-
I agree with all of this. But if someone died under my command, their family would get more than a rubber stamped letter.
-
A letter of appreciation from your Commander for the time you served is immeasurably less important than a death notification sent to the family of a fallen soldier. I think it should not only be personally signed but also handwritten and hand delivered by someone.
-
Your description above is rather dramatic and I'm sure not very accurate of Rumsfeld's feelings on the matter. I am, however, disappointed that someone would do this or allow it to be done. Whether intentional or not, I think it shows disrespect.

Embryonic Stem Cells May Not Be Needed Anymore

This is interesting logic. If something is legal in another country and will occur whether we decide to or not, we should follow suit regardless of whether it be considered right or wrong. Another countries decision to perform an act eliminates our obligation to medical ethics since someone somewhere will inevitably do it anyway. -
I just think there are way too many lazy, free-loading, spoiled, weak, whining crybabies in America.

DOJ: 2nd Amendment is an *Individual* Right!
pajarito replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
The founding fathers clearly said that arms should be regulated, even if the right of the citizens to possess them could not be infringed. No, they clearly said a well regulated militia. They also clearly said that the people should have the right to keep and bear arms. They did not mention that all arms should be regulated. People, however, try and insert that hidden meaning into it. There are two separate thoughts in that sentence both of which should not be infringed and are equally important. You can't keep one and take out the other. -
Depends on how you define sex...

Sure Kennedy... You know how "guns" kill people. Better leave that thing in the cockpit so it can't do any damage. It's libel to jump up and shoot somebody. Kidding aside. I don't think anyone put in the position of protecting others should leave their weapon anywhere. It should be on their person and ready to fire or they shouldn't carry at all. What's the point? I don't believe in the intimidation theory where the passengers are simply aware that the pilot is in possession of a gun in the cockpit and that's supposed to deter them. I don't think anyone should carry a weapon who doesn't have the will to actually use it. We can all “what if” this thing to death (i.e. What if the pilot gets it taken away from him?) but the alternative has proven much more catastrophic than that. Any way you look at it these days, risks have to be taken to ensure the safety of others.

Have you ever heard of anyone dying from malaria due to a mosquito bite? Sure, but it's not going to cripple a country of the size and power of the United States. A much bigger attack, on the other hand, might be felt more. It was just an example, fellas. Don't get caught up on the mosquito thing. Don't feel belittled. -

Got it. This is actually a good point; I hope that Port Security isn't the next thing we learn a "lesson" from... Me too. -

I agree with this point completely, I just think that it is incorrect to define an ongoing terror campaign resulting in the deaths of THOUSANDS of innocents like as a "nuisance"... Are you saying that if those type of incidents were occuring here over the years they would NOT be a "serious threat to national security"? Sure they'd be taken seriously. But, as with the prior Trade Center attack, they might not prompt quite the overhaul in the systems that we're witnessing today. I'm just saying, it's on a whole new level. I'll bet a dumpster blown up by the IRA doesn't drastically affect the UK economy like what happened to the US on 9-11.
