U.S. army deserter seeking refugee status in Canada
pajarito replied to IanHarrop's topic in Speakers Corner
That's a ludicrous example and would be an illegal order. My answer would be no. -

Not paying your debts, even a car payment, is an issue of honor - if not loyalty or duty - or at least part of self respect. So I don't have an issue with comparing this to any contract. You make a legal promise, you keep it. If you break it, then there are consequences. If this guy is breaking a contract, then he has character issues regardless of his excuses. Trial and punishment for desertion is already defined by UCMJ, so that should move forward in the system already established. I agree. I was just trying to point out that duty to your country is more serious than the other. I'm not saying that a person wouldn't also be a shit bag for not paying his/her bills. -
In 1968, after winning the Gold Medal in the heavyweight division of the Olympics, George walked around inside the ring waving a miniature American flag. When asked, "Why,?" George said, "I wanted everyone in the world to know I was an American and proud of the opportunity that I was given to do what I had done." George Foreman Not African American........AMERICAN. That's one of the reasons I like George Foreman. During that time, when there was so much devisiveness on both sides, George was a true American.

Some don't see it that way, though. They have no sense of duty, honor, or loyalty. To them, it is in fact just a contract like the note on their car. They would just as easily default on their country as with their other contracts. They're too focused on that huge Army paycheck to take seriously the possibility that they might actually be called upon to do what they were payed and trained to do. -

It's more than just a contract. It goes way deeper than that. It's not like a contract that you sign requiring you to pay off your car. It's an oath of allegiance. It's a promise, based on your character, that you'll stand with your fellow countrymen against an enemy. This guy is a coward. Plain and simple. I have no sympathy. -

Deep breath.... In with the good. Out with the bad. I'd really prefer not to be called Tuna's lover. I think both of you probably aught to relax. This discussion has decompensated. -

Whether you agree with him being charged with desertion or not, Pvt. Eddie Slovik was executed by firing squad during WWII. Pvt. Eddie Slovik -
I'd rather tape up my cat's paws and watch her hop around like she's walking on hot pavement.

That's probably what would have happened to him 50 years ago. I think he should at least spend a lot of his life in jail breaking big rocks into little ones. -

USC is gonna learn why life is hard in the Big 12!
pajarito replied to AggieDave's topic in The Bonfire
You know, I've been posting in my "Game Day - War Eagle" college football thread almost all season and only have 112 replies. And many of those posts are mine. This "USC is gonna learn why life is hard in the Big 12!" thread gets started this afternoon and mine will already be post #64. WTF!!! You guys trying to tell me something? -
I agree with you. This is a tough scenario. I would help the child any way I could. However, I also respect the guy's authority as a parent and his right to raise his child how he sees fit. I may not agree with his way but that's not for us to decide. I feel sorry for the kid, though.

There’s a lot that we see on video that can be grossly misinterpreted. There are also some incidents that truly require punishment. The line between right and wrong can get blurry sometimes, though, and it’s hard to always stay within the lines. That’s why I kicked the media out every chance I got (especially the BBC) because all they were looking to do was paint us in a bad light.

Netherlands Hospital Euthanizes Babies
pajarito replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
Just pointing out the hypocrisy in the term used. You're right. They don't get the "choice" not to be born crippled or with a terminal illness. That's not up to us. Neither should be the termination of their lives. In that, they have no "choice." That's not a really good comparison, though. -

The baby killed in the process didn't get a choice in that "pro-choice" stance. -

Yup! Rock on! If we're talking about the "toughest" conference "today", it's the SEC brother!!! -

Again, I was talking about diversity within the conferences. SEC 1. Louisiana State (2003) 2. Tennessee (1998) 3. Florida (1996) 4. Alabama (1992) = 4 different teams Big 12 1. Colorado 2. Oklahoma 3. Nebraska = 3 different teams -

That's the difference, the teams in the Big 12 have a history in football longer then 20 years. Hell, the Aggies beating the hell outa t.u. has been played for 112 years. That how that damn steer got the name Bevo, by the way...13-0! Ok. We can go back further. I hate to bring up Alabama b/c I really...really....hate those guys but they've got 12. Can you beat that? -

Anyway... Within last 20 years in reference to diversity within the conference (i.e. different teams with National Titles): Big 10: 3 Big 12: 3 SEC: 4 We have to play many of these very difficult teams in every one of our regular season games. Bring it suckas!!! -

You left out Texas: granted this was before the Big 12 1970 Nebraska (11-0-1) Texas (10-1) 1969 Texas (11-0) 1963 Texas (11-0) Again, I was talking about the last 20 years.
