No. I have no interest in that religion so it does not apply. I believe that you have an interest (as in investment) into the fate of your eternal soul whether you admit it or not. Therefore, with regard to God and the only religion that saves, I think you are actively taking no action. I think there is an internal struggle between right and wrong that all of us face every moment of every day. I think our conscience testifies to the truth. I just think many of us ignore that inner voice (actively).
-
You are actively refusing to take action.
-
Try jumping out of the plane and "not" deploy your parachute. Your "inaction" will get you killed. Inaction can be just as important as action.
-
A religion is merely a roadmap to a destination. I can practice a religion all by myself.
-
I was kidding on the last one. Well... I guess the one before the last one.

That was a point I made in the other thread. They accept the interpreted writings of antiquity as truth , without question, but absolutly refuse to accept the Bible. I know it's the message that they reject, and not the authenticity of the writing. I forget who wrote this but "Man will believe anything as long as it's not in the Bible." Or something like that. It's fitting. Added: Just remembered...Napoleon.

Of course. One can't be Christian and an academic.
-
That was ridiculous. I couldn't believe that happened.

I'd like to post this again for emphasis. Let me get this straight. Dismiss the New Testament as rubbish but accept Thucydides as very accurate? Written ~500 years before the New Testament with the earliest copy we have being 1300 years later and we only have 8. Thucydides: Written - 460-400 B.C. Earliest copy - 900 A.D. Approx timespan between orig & copy - 1300 yrs Number of copies - 8 New Testament: Written - 1st Century A.D. (50 - 100 A.D.) Earliest copy - 2nd Century A.D. (c. 130 A.D. f.) Approx timespan between orig & copy - < 100 years Number of copies - 5600 Accuracy of copies - 99.5%

How do you figure?

That's what I should do with this whole website. It's like watching a train wreck, though and I have an addictive personality. It's a living hell.

I don't believe that at all. There are many people who do not believe in God who are also very moral. I believe God's law of right & wrong is written on the hearts of everyone. Whether they choose to listen to that or not is a whole other matter. My Brother-in-law & Sister-in-law are both Atheists and they're some of the most moral people I know. When one is speaking of God's standard of moral perfection, however, we all fall short.
-
THIS: "Why do you assume that because someone doesn't believe in God that they have no morals and no motivation to be a good person??" IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM: "because someone doesn't believe in God that they have no reason to live by any "rules or moral conduct at all"
-
It's not. It's just one aspect.

How do you go from what I said: "If that's the case, why live by any rules or moral conduct at all." To what you said I assumed by saying what I said: "Why do you assume that because someone doesn't believe in God that they have no morals and no motivation to be a good person??"

1 - I think Jakee is doing fine and it's is as good a position as any other. I agree with that. See my link "Are you a good person" below.

Let's compare: Thucydides: Written - 460-400 B.C. Earliest copy - 900 A.D. Approx timespan between orig & copy - 1300 yrs Number of copies - 8 New Testament: Written - 1st Century A.D. There is one continuous thread through the entire Bible from start to finish describing the narrow path one must travel to God.
-
Wow... That's depressing. Added: If that's the case, why live by any rules or moral conduct at all.
-
There's only one road that leads to God and that is through Christ. There aren't many roads. Jesus made that clear. You may not buy that but that's what's in the message.

That was one tough dude!

Atheistic faith: The sudden appearance of all matter from nothing, by nothing, and for nothing.
