I agree with you about the UN, but I'm not so sure this is a kudo to Bush's foreign policy team. I think Gaddafi was on this path before we decided to take out Saddam Hussein. Perhaps our actions served as a catalyst of sorts causing Gaddaffi to move up his timetable, but I really do believe this was the path he had already chosen. Still don't trust the SOB. Howard Dean peddles hate for cash At "Howard's Hatefest"...
TheAnvil replied to captainpooby's topic in The Bonfire
Stop being so logical Paige! You'll scare the lefties! The tenor of the jokes at this event - as reported, wasn't there myself - shows the true racist nature of the left. They have no vested interest in promoting a society free of racial prejudice. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! -
Perhaps. Gaddafi has been trying to come back into the good graces of the rest of the world for quite some time now. He's been lobbying other heads of state in Africa to become the president of some sort of African regional confederation, I do believe. Forget the name of it - I read an article on it sometime last year. Reagan's policies towards him kept him contained for the most part. Syria's Assad has to be a bit nervouse right now. I think the prospect of another democratic government in the region scares the hell out of many Arab leaders. Given the current mindset of the Iranian populace and the bolder reforms Khatami seems to be able to produce, the region could become a stronghold for democracy within the next 25-50 years. Could being the key word there. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Thanks to all. Going to check out the AA website and perhaps give them a call to see what they have to say. If you can't handle drinking you should quit. My friend's wife and I both talked with him about it together once before and we've drank together several times since. What I've seen over the past two days he's been out for a visit hath concerned me greatly. Gotta go play host/chauffer for a bit if I can get my friend's ass out of bed. His wife is currently working on that. I should have made him run with me this morning. Hehehehehehe. I know what most of you are thinking - especially those familiar with me and my notorious drinking. This is serious - to me at least - and I'm looking for advice. I'm worried about my best friend's alcohol consumption. Given my own proclivity for over-indulgence (especially when Patron is involved) this might sound odd. But, those familiar with me probably have some sort of basis upon which to judge my request for advice - I'm a lush on occasion and make no bones about it. Has anyone here talked with a close friend about having a problem WRT alcohol problems. If so, what was your approach and/or tactic? I've had this converstaion with said individual before, but the ass-beating apparently didn't do any good, because the problem still exists. My straight on approach apparently didn't take root without constant supervision on my part (hard to do 2000 mi away). Any advice? bill? Wendy? Justin? Philly? Kallend? Others? Note: I am still an avowed lush. I'm very seriously looking for advice here. Given this, I hope you'll see the severity of the problem with which I'm dealing. This from a scholar such as Clarke? DISGUSTING. Let's here his plan to do so - OOPS! He doesn't have one - at least that he'll articulate specifically. Sad. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Bill, PhillyKev, and GeorgiaDon - Please pardon my delayed response. I've been playing host, chauffer, and working on moving all simultaneosly today. Thank the Almighty for cell phones. Philly & Bill - say what you like about Bush's methods. Some things you say are on point. Bottom line: using that Rumsfeld-Hussein photo as a political attack tool reeks of low class. Period. I read the left's websites with some frequency and listen to their speeches as well. I know how its used and it disgusts me. Bill-read that article before. sad state of affairs. Anyone that doesn't feel for that kid can goto hell. Don, I can't recall reading your posts before, but agree with some of what you said. I tend to trust the administration a lot more than you. Pahlavi's regime fell because of the reasons you gave. I strongly believe that many of the foreign policy turds we are dealing with today have roots that can be traced back to US-Sovietactions during the cold war. I'd like to talk about cookie-cutter foreign policy approaches, how a strong affinity for Kennan's containment theory hamstrung us as a nation in some respects with regards to foreign policy, and such but am too damned tired to do so right now. Perhaps later. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Dude, you don't get it. That Rumsfeld-Hussein photo has been making the rounds hasn't it? Democraticunderground.com, Dean, Kerry, and many other folks have pointed it out. The fact that this photo is even used to denounce the current administration or America in any way ticks me off. Those WITH three digit IQ's cognizant of the political environs of the time period who use this photo to denounce our current foreign policy have apparently let their lust for obtaining political office/advantage suppress any vestige of patriotism left within them - if it ever existed. Nothing like playing on the ignorant to get their vote, eh? Go back to my post and you click on those photos. Look at them. Do it right now. Now close your eyes and pretend you're talking with that blindfolded guy about current foreign policy. Show him that Rumsfeld-Hussein photo and denounce the US policy of the time period. Imagine you are doing it with his family and friends 444 times - once for each day he was held hostage. Tell him how this photo shows how bankrupt, hypocritical, and bereft of intellect conservatives are when it comes to foreign policy. While you're imagining doing this, let your thoughts wonder back to your own feelings in '79-'80 and how you felt back then. Your a damned bright fellow and undoubtedly realize that your diatribe wouldn't be taken too well by said hypothetical audience. This is what SICKENS me about the left these days. They use people/names that even the least informed citizen will recognize and use said recognition to mislead the ignorant. There are examples aplenty: Enron, Hussein-Rumsfeld, 'tax breaks for the rich', etc. In addition, they sure as HELL wouldn't read their letter to the Catholic Bishops of America to their NOW/NARAL supporters, would they? The left uses this photo to promote the 'we're hypocritical for going to war' line - among others. Since most wouldn't know Pahlavi from ravioli much less the history of US foreign policy in the region, it works - ON THE IGNORANT. Random thoughts. In closing, the use of that photo in this manner ticks me off. It's a disgrace. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Hmm...I'll defer to lawrocket on legalities, but have a couple of thoughts as one might expect. Please keep in mind that I'm a bit toasted. If marriage is considered a religious thing, what business does Congress have enacting any law that has any effect on any establishment of religion in any way? Wouldn't any such ammendment be in contradiction with the first? If marriage is considered a secular thing - why does it matter, unless the government is following the norms of the Church? If it's following the norms of a particular Church, then it IS in violation of the 1st ammendment. The most pressing question on my mind right now, is should I have another beer? I believe I will. Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy. I have consumed lots of tequila this year, with high expectations for receiving my entire Christmas list. Here is what I want for Christmas: - billvon to renounce the democratic party and become a hypocritical libertarian - a maintenance free car for SKYMAMA - ten cases of Patron delivered to Hollister monthly - BASE jumping in Yosemite to be legal - free beer for all USPA members - Osama bin Laden to die a horrid death - my own personal elven parachute packer - incapable of packing a slammer opening - a partridge in a pear tree - oh yeah....a brand new MIRAGE too OK Santa. I've presented my demands and think them reasonable, given the massive amounts of tequila I've consumed this year. Get off of your fat ass and make this happen or face the consequences of me drinking MORE tequila next year! Yours in agave, Vinny the Anvil Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Extremely interesting point, there, Gravitymaster.

Yes, it is an attack. The reason you don't see it is because those attack themes are so rampant among the websites/propaganda of the left that they are taken for granted. Pro-civil rights sending the GOP into fits? This attack is CRITICAL to dem long term strategy. Despite the fact the the GOP does NOT support racial discrimination and the Democratic party does, the left has been highly successful in characterizing the GOP as a bunch of racists. They use race-baiting, scare tactics, and outright lies (oops! I repeat myself) to motivate their minority voting base. Pro-woman issues sending the GOP into fits? Like the latter, the left uses the GOP's opposition to unrestricted abortions for all to scare women into voting for them. Not as critical an attack theme as the anti-civil rights BS, but still critical if the left wants to eke out a victory for socialism. Pro-peace sending the GOP into fits? Characterizing the GOP as war-mongers. How nice. Easy to do given the loathing we conservatives have for appeasement and for the hard line commie buffoons who are sponsoring some of the peace demonstrations. Incorrect, but easy to pass off to the uneducated. I could go on, but don't think I need to. I stand by my statement - that was an attack. Not a creative one, mind you, but an attack nonetheless. Congrats to our troops from 4ID! Really kickass job. From the description of his hiding location and his state at the time of his capture, it seems that he wasn't taking a very active role in coordinating the terrorist attacks on our folks over there, though. It indicates that the coordination was either delegated to other former regime officials OR it is being done by Syrian, Al Quaida, or possibly others. Despite this, I think his capture will do a couple of things in the long run. #1 Fedayeen recruiters/leaders undoubedly used the prospect of the return of a Hussein regime as a motivational tool. Now that tool is gone forever. A major psychological blow. #2 Allowing an Iraqi court or tribunal to try Hussein rather than an American one would give the Iraqi populace a feeling of empowerment of sorts, I do believe. This might possibly result in some troops coming home a bit earlier - but not much earlier. Oh what a great morning. billvon isn't a far left liberal. I have high hopes of converting him into a hypocritical libertarian.

I think they do belong in public schools because understanding other cultures and religions is part of the education process. It's not a state endorsement of the religion in any manner. Hard to learn about Middle Eastern history, the history of Outremer and the Crusades, etc. without understanding a bit about religion. I agree on the all or nothing. The football team prayer came to the SCOTUS because a predominantly Baptist community wouldn't let a Catholic boy say the team prayer, if memory serves. (Baptists in general are good people in my own experiences; I could be wrong here but think my point made) I think the LACK of ACLU involvement here and in the NYC schools case really shows what anti-Christian bigots they are. Sad that an organization can go that route. They used to be OK 20 years or so ago. Can you imagine their ire should a teacher have kids staging a fake Crusade shouting 'God wills it!' and reciting verses from the Bible? Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Disgusting. No nativity scene in NYC schools (menorah's and Islamic crescents are OK though) and now this. The next time some ACLU buffoon screams about 'separation of church and state' (still waiting for someone to show me that phrase in the Constitution) ask them about this case. When I've done so they always scream louder or run like the cowards they are. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Dammit! I'm getting confused! When you said 'now' is now 'then' but Kath and Andy said 'now' it was before 'then'. So I guess I'm wondering if I say now, will now become 'then' soon? Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
