  1. It wasn't so much after the first jump, but before the first jump for me. My first jump was 4 years ago and I remember it like it was this morning. I couldn't sleep for shit the night before. I was so anxious to get out there and do it, I didn't sleep a bit. After the jump was a bunch of sweet dreams!!!!! John D-24352
  2. I learned to pack in like 1998. I packed for my dad before I even started skydiving. He is probly the reason for me being so safe when it comes to gear, packing, and other equipment. I learned how to pack so even if it wasn't the best pack job, it was still better than every other pack job at the DZ. Packing is something you can't slack on. I don't pack to make the jump, I pack to make the jump after the jump. My previous response didn't mean it is necessary to take out your reserve every day you jump, but atleast look at what you can see under the reserve flap. John D-24352
  3. Why couldn't they have made it part of their pack job to check those things? I do. It falls into the same boat as checking the closing loop for wear, clearing the material from the ring on the bottom of the bag, etc. It would just take a few extra seconds and would save a world of hurt. IMHO. John D-24352
  4. Dude, We don't tell the newbies what goes on after jumping. If we did, they would never come out. But, the ride home can be way more dangerous than skydiving. The whole drinking and driving shit. That is why one of our pilots just flies home after he's had a couple beers. Less cops. John D-24352
  5. My SOP is to always do a gear check for people getting in the plane and I get one myself. One good one for sure at the beginning of the day. As far as Skydiving being safer than driving a car, I believe it. I often tell new jumpers or people I am talking to about Skydiving that the most dangerous thing is the ride to the airport. Of course this is not always true, but think of the number of people you know who have been in a car accident compared to the number of people in a skydiving accident. I know people who have died in both, but it is just something to think about. You can make Skydiving as safe or as dangerous as you want!!!!! John D-24352
  6. Hey, If you are tired of Mexico, go on over to Santa Teresa, NM and hit up Skydive El Paso. It is only about 20 minutes from downtown El Paso and there is a border crossing 10 or so miles away from Santa Teresa Airport. It is my home DZ and the people are awesome. It is only open on the weekends. Bob Kern is the owner/operator. John D-24352
  7. Tell them that it is actually safe. We know that it can be as safe or as dangerous as we make it. (People who don't jump think it is a crazy persons sport.) The most dangerous part of skydiving is the drive to the airport!!! It's Challenging. Cheaper then flying an airplane. The equipment is superb. Use Wendy's reasons also. John D-24352
  8. That's the way Marine!!!!! I was just going to say the same thing: I knew I was ready to downsize when I couldn't get anything else out of my parachute!!!!! Fly them to the limit as long as it is safe and learn semi HP landings on a chute you know. Safety First / Fun Second!!!!! John D-24352
  9. Hey KS DZO, I will still jump at your DZ. The reason is because my Sabre 2 150 is only loaded at 1.499999999. Will you weigh me? I will jump naked if I have too exit with less weight? I'll even put a larger reserve in my rig. What ever it takes. I'm still going to bust a fat swoop though!!! See you all soon. . . . Let me know!!!!! John D-24352 P.S. Is tornado season over yet??? That would suck. . . . Damn Tornadoes!!!!!
  10. Dude, I was just putting my 2 cents in on what I knew. I haven't jumped every chute in the world. 3 out of five ain't bad!!! John D-24352
  11. I wish I had 6 tandems and knew everything!!!!! I would be the best skydiver in the world at 12 tandems and maybe even run the USPA!!!! John D-24352
  12. Sabre 2 all the way!!!! I have had experience with all those parachutes except the Omni and Safire 2. The Triathlon is good for all around use. It isn't that fun for a experinced jumpers. If you want a 7 cell, go for the Spectre. They are great. The Sabre 2 is excellent in every way. Soft on heading openings and never line twists unless you pack them or your body position sucks. It is really forgiving on packing techniques and is a blast to fly. If you want a 9 cell, Sabre 2 wins hands down!!!!! John D-24352
  13. I didn't know he was ever talking about the APF!!!!! These are the recommended opening from the USPA!!!!! The USPA SIM says that you should: Just to Clarify some shit!!!!!
  14. Hell yeah, you will never find a DZ in Texas with those type rules. If you are ever out west, try Skydive El Paso. It is my home drop zone and the people are awesome. They only have 2 Cessna 182's, but they don't give a shit what you jump. John D-24352
  15. That picture is awesome. Just think, you can have a couple hundred line twists and the canopy will still fly, I mean drop the same. Sweet!!!!!
  16. Hey WHUFFO, Dude, those are the minimum recommended decision altitudes that the SIM says to cutaway by. They are not the minimum opening altitudes. Who would ever recommend a B-licenced jumper to open at 1,800 ft? John D-24352
  17. Dude, that is hard core!!! I can see why they have that rule, but there should be exceptions. I have been to a lot of different DZ's and have never encountered rules like these. I looked at the website and it is like a damn rule book from the FAA. You being a D Licensed skydiver + the instructor ratings you earned should have been enough for them to know you are legit. It could be that they don't want any hot shots to make them look bad. They obviously want all the chicks to themselves. John D-24352
  18. What are you loading the Spectre 150 at? Maybe instead of downsizing, try flying a 9 cell with similar flying characteristics. Sabre 2 comes to mind. I am sure you will have a bit more fun on the landings. As far as what the Aggie said, it is better to fly whatever parachute you have to the max instead of downsizing in order to get the speed and thrilling landings. Any pro-swooper out there like Chuck Blue, Ian Bobo, or Clint Clawson can swoop that Spectre better than you will be able to swoop the Stiletto. The point is, the canopy can do it as long as the pilot can do it. This is where technique comes in. Downsizing is not always the answer. IMHO. John D-24352
  19. I doubt it is because of the loading. I am loading it 1.45:1. It may be becase of the way I roll the nose. What do you think? John D-24352
  20. I also get those closed end cells sometimes. It doesn't really bother me, but why does this happen? The openings aren't hard, but they still cave in. They always inflate after I unstow the breaks, so what's going on? John D-24352
  21. I have just hit the 100 mark for the number of jumps on my Sabre 2 150. Thus far, I have had no problems at all and I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about the Sabre 2? Whether it is good or bad, comment on your experience with the Sabre 2. John D-24352
  22. Personally, I don't like Sabre's. All my experiences with Sabre's have been unpleasant. I primarily mean the openings, but why should any part of a skydive be unpleasant. What you need is a Sabre 2. They are more forgiving then the original Sabre in every way and they are excellent in performance. Check out PD's website http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/Sabre2-Flight.pdf and read more about them and for sure try demoing one. They are really great canopies. Just my 13 cents. John D-24352
  23. Grat job man!!!! It will for sure please the tandem student and all others that see it. It was cool to see all disciplines of skydiving in it. I'm sure it will boost business when non-jumpers see it and want to try. John D-24352

    New toy!

What do you have to pay a month? Let us know how it works.
  25. Congratulations Man!!!!! What do you know about the changing of the jump requirements in order to get B, C, and D licenses? I was just curious about seeing what a new license holder knows and how you all feel about this. John D-24352
